‘Betty’ – BBC Radio 2 ‘Record of The Week’

+ now on National playlists in Ireland including RTE2fm + out on iTunes now!

“A compelling darkness and intensity lurks under the surface of the best of these songs” – Uncut

The precocious teen has blossomed into a mature artist” – Q

This is an artist comfortable with her craft, confident of the direction it’s taking” – BBC

RTE & BBCRadio 2 favourite Brooke Fraser returns to Ireland this Autumn for an Academy Show Oct 9th after her sold out Dublin show earlier this year. Already a multi-platinum selling artist in her native New Zealand, Brooke has seen both her Irish singles enjoy phenomenal success at debut ‘Something in the Water’ spending months on radio playlists weeks on the A list. Meanwhile, the album from which they were taken, Flags, secured praise from Uncut and Q Magazine- no mean feat for a young artist making her UK & Irish debut with an entirely self-produced and self-written album.

This impressive response is just a reflection of the wider international success Brooke has garnered so far this year- her Something in The Water EP debuted at #1 in Germany and Austria, with the lead single achieving top ten radio play in Italy and Germany. Flags has established a firm bed of American support, with a top five iTunes chart debut and a sold-out 18 date tour earlier this year.

A self-taught singer and songwriter from an early age, Brooke Fraser signed to Sony when she was eighteen, and released her first album in New Zealand in 2002. It debuted at number one, stayed in her native top ten for a year, and eventually went eight times platinum: an astonishing feat for an artist so young. Fraser went on to support the likes of David Bowie and John Mayer, before penning her second album, ‘Albertine’. This saw her success expand to America, where she toured extensively, entered the Billboard Top 100 chart and climbed to number five on the digital retailers’ US album chart.

Still aged just 26, Brooke Fraser has made her third album in ‘Flags’, but it’s the first that she’s releasing in the UK & Ireland. It is very much the synthesis of the sounds and stories that got her to this point. Fraser grew up in what she describes as a “less than affluent” part of Wellington, largely indifferent to the influx of musical imports from the rest of the world.  Her home, however, was filled with seminal records by the likes of Carole King, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell and Van Morrison. Unfortunately, her brother broke the vinyl player, so she grew up with them only in the visual sense. The revelatory moment came one afternoon when her friend’s mum was driving them to netball practice: James Taylor came on the radio, and Brooke suddenly put two and two together. It kick started an obsession with classic singers and songwriters that would feed into the music that she makes to this day.

Brooke’s also used her considerable success as a platform for various charitable projects that she is passionate about. In 2005, she took a trip to Rwanda, 11 years after a genocide that claimed the lives of nearly one million people, and went on to partner with World Vision in sponsoring children and water projects in the region. For the release of ‘Something In The Water’, she aligned herself with a New York organisation called Charity Water, who have set out a rigorous plan to get clean water to everyone in the world within 40 years. Brooke’s ‘Birthday’ scheme (where fans are invited to leave money rather than giving presents) has already raised over $50,000 for the charity. More details on the organisation itself are available here: http://www.charitywater.org/

Henrietta Game tell the story about new single ‘Last Thing’

by admin on July 21, 2011 in with no comments

Henrietta Game  have just announced details of their new single “LAST THING” which will be out FRI. AUG 26TH

Since the release of their critically acclaimed album Black Ship (produced by Tommy McLaughlin – ‘Villagers’), there is no doubt that Henrietta Game have experienced a meteoric rise in the Irish music scene and they look set to continue to do so on the release of their new single ‘Last Thing’ on Aug 26th.  They have had numerous appearances & support on both television (RTE ‘The Café’, BBC 2, TG4) and radio (Today FM, 98 FM, Phantom FM, RTE Radio1, LMFM + more) They were also awarded a most sought after ALBUM OF THE WEEK on the National radio station RTE Radio1, who described the album as having that WOW- Factor.

The second single to be released from the album is titled ‘Last Thing’ and has quite an interesting back story as to how it came to be…In January 2009, the band, not even a month old, were rehearsing for their first gig in a house just off Parnell Street. Typically they’d practice in the basement but on this particular night they gathered in the sitting room at the front of the house to play to two other people who were living in the house.

Meanwhile… outside, two faint gunshots rang out…

All of a sudden each of their phones randomly started buzzing with texts and phone calls from worried friends and relatives hoping that they were okay. Unknown to them… two men had been shot outside the house as they rehearsed inside and the once quiet street had turned into a frantic crime-scene.

Slightly haunted by the whole tragedy, the following weekend at band practice, band member Christy brought up the incident and said to the band ‘Imagine if our music was the last thing those guys heard’…That very suggestion and possible realization inspired the band to write the second single ‘LAST THING’ from their now critically acclaimed album ‘BLACK SHIP’.

(Debut Single “Sleep Then” then went No. 1 in the iTunes alternative charts!!)

Their upcoming gig dates includes The Electric Picnic and a special support to UB40.

Underworld to play The Electric Picnic this year

by admin on July 20, 2011 in with no comments

Underworld
Pioneering musically and questing lyrically, Underworld have forced the pace of electronic music since their Lazarus-like resurrection in the early ’90s.

The band’s first album as a trio (with Darren Emerson, a young DJ who lived in the next street in Romford), Dubnobasswithmyheadman, was met with the kind of plaudits reserved for the upper-echelons of rock royalty. The result of several years returning and refocusing, Dubnobass offered Underworld a kiss of life that other bands so far into their career can only fantasise about. Over the next fifteen years, the band plotted a course that took them from cult status curio selling 500 singles out of the back of a van to soundtracking summer after summer as festival headliners the world over; from conducting sonic experiments for subterranean dancefloors to scoring movies for directors Danny Boyle and the late Anthony Minghella.

Autumn 2010 and the arrival of their now critically acclaimed sixth studio album – Barking – sees the band perform a feat of creative regeneration once again. The undisputed heavyweights of electronic music make a very welcome return to Stradbally Hall following an awe-inspiring show back in ‘08.

Taken from The No. 1 charted Irish Album:  ‘The further adventures of….”

It’s 2011 and here is a band withstanding the odds of the current music age, who still know how to recreate the tunes that put them among the most loved bands of the past two decades. ‘Be Yourself’ is the their third single taken from the latest studio album titled The Further Adventures of..… Their new single’s chorus enthusiastically proclaims the line “you’ve got to be yourself you can’t be anyone else”, Co writer Eímhín Cradock explains: “You can achieve all the heights that life brings; money; power; high social standing; etc. but if you’ve achieved it by emulating another person you’ve got nothing you can call your own. Racing through life looking for kudos from other people, without being true to your own code, is a lonely unfulfilling road. In a world of  spin and half truths,  Be Yourself is a song about being honest and being truthful”.

In the first week of The Further Adventures of…. album being released, it knocked off mercury winners The XX and Villagers from the No.1 position on the Indie Charts by coming straight in at No. 1! (and they also came in at a No. 7 position on the mainstream charts and maintained a Top 10 position for over 6 weeks). It has been a vast list of Chart success on numerous songs over the years such as well known favourites: “N17”, a cover of SUGABABES “About You Now”, (note that The Sugababes’ original version of About You Now stalled at No. 2 in the Irish Chart while The Saw Doctors reached No. 1!) and more recently the Christmas 2010 No. 1 acapella version of their hit song ‘Red Cortina’ plus many more, that have helped The Saw Doctors maintain their defiant musical stance on the scene. The new single will only reinstate that.

The current lineup features:  Leo Moran (vocals, guitar), Davy Carton (vocals, guitar), Kevin Duffy (keyboards), Anthony Thistlethwaite (bass guitar, saxophone), and new drummer and co writer Eímhín Cradock (drums + vocals). Join the band as they embark on their Irish and international tour in the coming weeks and months.

by admin on July 1, 2011 in with no comments

Cooking Vinyl sign: The Subways + get a listen to the track ITS A PARTY now up on NME: http://www.nmevideo.com/the-subways-its-a-party The Subways Forthcoming album ‘Money and Celebrity’ was recorded and produced by UK producer STEPHEN STREET (Blur/The Smiths/Kaiser Chiefs) at Sofa Sound studios London.

To set an example of the bands intent for this album ‘It’s A Party’, melds their first album’s melodic immediacy with the 2nds energetic rock power. The band penned this track specifically for the live & festival stage, and it’s a deliberate move to play to the band’s strength as a ferociously explosive live act.

The album is scheduled for release in mid September with first single just prior.

"Since we hired Good Seed PR we have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of PR we’re getting for our artists in Ireland. The service and reporting we’re getting from Linda is spot on. She’s helpful, professional and on the ball, and our artists love her. I’m not sure I should be saying this, as she’s so good, I don’t really want to share…" - Anette Collins Head of International– Cooking Vinyl Records
