Luke Cosgrave Announces New Single ‘I Feel Your Time Is Comin’ Set To Be Released July 7th

Luke Cosgrave is an Irish contemporary violinist and songwriter from Wexford, Ireland. He has been playing violin since the age of five and was a member of the Dublin Youth Orchestra, and The Wexford Sinfonia as well as playing as a session musician with a long career supporting numerous Irish artists throughout Ireland.

He has performed solos for former Irish President Mary Robinson and Taoiseach Micháel Martin. A consummate professional musician. In addition to performing for dignitaries, he has played alongside Sinead O’Connor and Mundy as a session musician and he has also supported and shared stages with Don Baker, John Spillane, and The 4 of Us to name but a few.

After lending his violin skills to so many of his fellow luminaries, it was time to launch his own music to the Irish and International Music Scene. His previous releases ‘Heart of Hearts’ and ‘Love and War’ were soft-launched during the pandemic to glowing fans, and he is now ready to follow that up with his new song, ‘I Feel Your Time Is Comin’, a sing-a-long folk song, which he releases in July 2023.

With his well-formed, thought-provoking lyrics, Luke sings with a Wexford accent akin to Corkonian John Spillane’s unique and charming Irish rhetoric. His latest musical offering, ‘I Feel Your Time Is Comin’, will surely appeal to the repeat button.

Malachy Tuohy, vocalist and songwriter of the Riptide Movement, is set to release his debut solo album titled “I Cross This Universe” in June 2023. “Most of the Time” will be the first song to be released from the album and will be available to stream and download on all major platforms from April 21st 2023.

The Covid lockdown inspired Tuohy to embark on a new creative journey with “I Cross This Universe,” showcasing his impressive range as an artist and songwriter. The album features exceptional production by Gavin Glass and special guest performances from Albert Lee, Moya Brennan, Rachel Grace, Beth McNinch, and Paul Brennan.

“Most Of The Time” is the first song to be released from Tuohy’s debut album “I Cross This Universe”. It’s a heartfelt song that reflects on the complexity of self-expression, isolation, and disconnection. The song’s laidback feel, understated vocals, and soulful lyrics encapsulate the uncertainty of the time it was written.

‘I wrote “Most of the time” during the covid lockdown. I wanted to write a song that reflected that feeling of uncertainty, isolation and disconnection, where everything is questioned and where our fears and insecurities are amplified.  I think it’s a song that everyone can relate to.’

Malachy Tuohy has earned international success and a gold-selling number 1 album with hit songs such as “All Works Out,” “Changeling,” and “Elephant in the Room” with his band, the Riptide Movement. “I Cross This Universe” showcases another side of his craft. The songs are intimate and stripped back, with an emphasis on the vocals and lyrics, making for an introspective personal sound.

“I’m buzzing to be releasing my debut solo album, ‘I Cross This Universe,’ and excited to share the first song, “Most of the time,” said Tuohy. “It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for all the support and collaborations from such talented musicians.”

The debut single “Most of the Time” is a must-listen for fans of soulful, heartfelt music and is a taste of what’s to come from his upcoming album “I Cross This Universe”.

Imelda Kehoe Announces New Single ‘Ohio’ Set To Be Released Feb 10th 2023

Imelda Kehoe is an Irish Contemporary Folk singer-songwriter who has created her own style, which is influenced by Folk, Blues, and with elements of Soul. Her songs are melody-rich, weaving a tapestry of stories, and life experiences written with the listener at heart and with a definite World music feel.

‘Ohio’ is the first release from Imelda’s forthcoming Album and brings the listener through America’s troubled past from the Indian War to the American Civil War, with lyrics that are relevant today.

Imelda comments on the song:

“Ohio was inspired by Sebastian Barry’s ‘Days Without End’ which I read in the summer of 2021. I fell in love with the story and his brilliant writing and I read it a few days whilst on holiday. Once I had finished it, I read it again. I love to write Songs that are inspired by human stories and have elements in them that everyone can relate to.

I think it is the greatest compliment when someone says that a Song you wrote really connects with their own life story because that means that you’ve done something right in revealing enough of yourself to make it genuine but have focused on the listener’s experience, which is always my starting point. If someone is going to invest a few minutes of their precious time listening to my Song, I want it to be worth it.

The pre-chorus to Ohio is inspired by Barry’s reasoning for why they were good at Soldiering: “How we were able to see slaughter without flinching. Because we were nothing ourselves, to begin with,” This line inspired the Pre-Chorus of Ohio:

“By the Holy River wide, Do we live, or do we die?

We are nothing anyway.”

Other themes from the book that inspired Ohio were the savagery of the American Indian War, Starvation, Boredom, and the Economic devastation of the Civil war. Another significant theme is Identity. The main character, Thomas McNulty is more comfortable when he is dressed as a female and ultimately wants to be John Cole’s female wife, not his male lover. This inspired the lyric:

“If we could rebuild a life, Find a star too great for the sky. For a life not approved, what have we got to lose?”

Musically, Ohio is structured in the traditional folk style but with a contemporary edge, thanks to Larry Hogan’s production and the Lead Guitar played by Horacio Valdivieso, an Ecuadorian Guitar player, who I have worked with on a number of projects”.

The song is also reminiscent of Emmylou Harris Pancho and Lefty with a hint of The Eagles Tequila Sunrise and was produced by Irish producer, Larry Hogan.

It was written and inspired following several visits to Redbooks Independent Book shop in Wexford where Imelda spent many hours among the labyrinth of Second hand-books.

Ohio was recorded at Windmill Lane Studios and produced by Larry Hogan and Mastered by Michael Egan.

Editors Notes

From a big Irish/English family, spending most of her childhood moving around and living in beautiful locations, while her parents renovated old properties. There would always be gatherings, campfires, and music and she describes these early influences as shaping her love of good melody, nature, and travel, which is a recurring theme in her music.

Imelda trained as a Nurse and worked in inner City A&E and Intensive Care Departments and cites these experiences as being influential in her Song Writing.

Video: Recorded at Red Books, Independent Book shop, Wexford, with the kind permission of Wally O’Neill and was filmed by Roberto Forte.

Emer Dunne Announces New Single ‘Daisy’ + Stunning Cover Songs, Ahead of New Album.

Emer Dunne announces brand new music taken from her upcoming long-player album, Hourglass. Original song ‘Daisy’ will be available for download on MARCH 26th (with all Profits to Irish Cancer Society) + Cover songs: ‘The Parting Glass’ and ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’

Laois based singer, Emer Dunne, who is due to release the first single, Daisy, on March 26th from her astounding new album entitled, Hourglass has decided to donate all the profits from her single to a charity close to many of our own hearts, The Irish Cancer Society.

March 2020 saw a change across many parts of the world. We have all been affected and many of our great charities have suffered as a result of not being able to run the fundraising events of the past.

“ I didn’t set out to record a song for charity. I was just working on this album and the way things went this past year the release was delayed. The date was then set for March 26th and when I discovered this was also Daffodil Day, I decided that during these difficult times perhaps I can give something back. Everyone knows someone who has had to suffer at the evil hands of cancer. On a personal note, I have three aunties and an uncle who all suffered from Cancer and my mother is currently battling this illness.  I have watched her bravery over the past few months and observed first hand the fantastic work and support given by The Irish Cancer Society”.

‘Daisy’ is a positive uplifting song where the singer is reminding ‘Daisy’ that all people don’t view the world in the same way and as the lyrics state, “people don’t think like you do and some don’t think at all.”  The track is written by Scottish songwriter, Karine Polwart, and the song struck a chord with Emer. She immediately took it to her producer, Bill Shanley (who works with Mary Black & Gilbert O Sullivan etc). Emer knew it would be one of the ten tracks to make its way onto her new album.  A talented songwriter in her own right, Emer could relate to the lyrics of this song, and with Bill Shanley at the helm she could see the opportunity for bringing a unique and vibrant arrangement to it.

Daisy’ was recorded between Dublin and London with Bill Shanley, Andrew Holdsworth, Colin Farrell and Jonathan Owens. The song is available to purchase on digital platforms including iTunes & Amazon music, for only €1.29. Please tell your friends and help raise money for much needed cause.

Daisy is part of a radio sampler pack which also includes cover songs of Irish favourites ‘The Parting Glass’ and ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’, performed beautifully by Emer

Ann Scott Announces New Single ‘Another Valentine’ Ahead of LP

Single release –  ‘Another Valentine’ – Friday February 6th

A desperado acoustic love song cloaked in kitsch organs, vintage wurlitzer, punchy percussion and murky guitars, Another Valentine is the new single and first slice from Ann Scott’s forthcoming album, Lily. Mixed and mastered by Karl Odlum who also lends his signature bass, Scott takes command of most of the instrumentation, programming and guitars, while drums are performed by David Hingerty. Another Valentine is released on Raghouse Records with support from FMC Stimulus for album release, funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, and will be available from Spotify,  iTunes, Bandcamp etc on February 5th.

Over the course of four stunning and original albums, Ann Scott has been steadily establishing herself as one of the most courageous songwriters on the Irish scene. Twice nominated in the best female category for the Irish Meteor Awards, Ann Scott has carved her own niche as an independent and firebrand songwriter. Her debut album Poor Horse was voted into the Hotpress musicians’ poll of Ireland’s top 100 albums, while follow ups, We’re SmilingFlo and Venus to the Sky have received hearty critical acclaim and a growing number of converts, with Tony Clayton Lea including We’re Smiling in his 2011 novel of ‘101 Irish Albums You Must Hear Before You Die’

With distinctive voice, quirky left field guitars, and weird tunings, Scott guests regularly as multi-instrumentalist alongside contemporaries such as Gemma Hayes, Mark Geary, Katell Keineg and Adrian Crowley, and has provided guest vocals on albums for many more including, Glen Hansard, David Kitt, Kila & Oki and Jape.

Her forthcoming studio offering, Lily, comprises eleven songs recorded over a mixed period of solitude and transformation, with recent history including re-location to the Irish countryside, giving birth for the first time, and now a year marked by lockdowns and social isolation.  Not by co-incidence then, Lily is a largely solo and sparse affair, featuring just a handful of usual collaborators and includes themes ranging from motherhood and family, to dementia, loneliness, burnout and hope.

What some of the critics have to say

“An inventive, literate and poetic voice” —Tony Clayton Lea- Irish Times

Not one of the highly hyped songwriters but definitely one of the most talented” – Dan Hegarty – 2FM

“A sublime, special collection. Rooted in dreamy melodies, Scott’s voice part Harriet Wheeler part Beth Orton is a rare beauty soaring on hot day and she jubilee and should deservedly gain her a lot of critical attention”. – Sinead Gleeson – U Magazine

Áine Tyrrell Delivers Truth About Irish/Australian Connection With Spoken Word and Prose ‘We Call You Now’

In a year where identity and the questioning of cultural history has never been more important, Irish singer-songwriter, Áine Tyrrell, now based in Australia, adds to the rich tapestry of the International debate with her new single ‘We Call You Now’, looking at our responsibility as a nation to our Native and Indigenous peoples through the lens of her own ancestry and lived experience in Ireland and Australia.

A seven-and-a-half minute spoken word tome which brings passion and nuance, anger and love, ‘We Call You Now’ features the vocals of Groote Eylandt singer Emily Wurramara, with the two artists coming together virtually to create this powerful statement in music and prose.

“I am an Irish woman who has been shaped by my own colonised history,” said Tyrrell. “There are things that jarred me from my first day living in ‘so-called Australia’ in trying to understand the Australian identity and as I dug deeper I found a cesspool of disturbing colonised narratives around Indigenous culture. In emigrating here, I experienced racism implicit and explicit about my Irishness that is so ingrained in the Australian psyche that it goes unnoticed by many, but I recognise it. It is colonisation.”

Invited to be part of the conversation more publicly in the Black Lives Matter protest on Bundjalung Country, Tyrrell received a backlash from many Australians who also claim Irish heritage. A narrative amongst them uses Ireland’s own colonial past to derail the important conversation being had around the rights and treatment of Australia’s First Nations people.

“I refuse to be quiet about people using my Irish identity in this way,” said Tyrrell. “I felt it was my duty as an Irish woman living in Australia to demand that no one uses their Irish identity as a way of perpetuating racism.”

The experience pushed Tyrrell to a creative place she had not visited before, turning to spoken word and prose for the first time. Writing with fury and truth, she was urged by First Nations collaborators to release it immediately as a call to Irish Australians to gather around the fire and listen to their lived experience.

Over her ten years in Australia, Áine Tyrrell has added much to Australia’s music scene, becoming a regular at the likes of the Woodford Folk Festival, a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, undertaking a national tour ‘Exile: The Irish Australian Story’ in 2017 and most recently a sold-out tour of ‘Country Witches Association’, a feminist reimagining of a CWA meeting which was set to launch internationally at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year until the onset of COVID-19.

The power and energy of Tyrrell’s live performances are matched with her recorded output, with ‘We Call You Now’ adding a powerful chapter in a career book being written on her own terms, with a legacy that will live on in Australia’s national conversation.
