Lucy Spraggan speaks to RTE TEN about the meaning of success

With her new album We Are just released, singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan has told TEN that, for her, the meaning of success is “whatever you feel comfortable with”.Lucy_Spraggan_shares_her_meaning_of_success_-_RTÉ_Ten

The former X Factor contestant, who has set up her own label, CTRL, said: “Some people think global domination is success, and other people think just getting to do a paid gig is success. And at one point getting a paid gig was success for me. One! One paid gig!”

She continued: “So success for me is whatever you feel comfortable with, where your expectation lies.”

Spraggan added: “It’s so clouded sometimes by what other people have implemented to tell you what success is, which is what I suffered with for the last two years until I realised, ‘No, I’m actually doing what I love. I do tours and I make music and I do it as a job. This is me; this is success for me’.”

LUCY SPRAGGAN

ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE ‘UNSINKABLE’ OUT 10TH APRIL

NEW ALBUM ‘WE ARE’ RELEASED 1st MAY

MAY HEADLINE TOUR DATES ON SALE NOW for Uk & Ireland

Following on her from her 2013 Top 10 album ‘Join The Club’, Lucy Spraggan will release her third album ‘We Are’ on 1st May, preceded by the single ‘Unsinkable’ on 10th April, through her own label CTRL Records.

23-year-old Lucy released her record ‘Top Room At The Zoo’ in 2011. After auditioning for The X Factor in 2012 with her own track ‘Last Night’, the song reached #11 in the UK singles chart and the album entered the UK albums chart at #22. Unfortunately leaving The X Factor due to illness, Lucy came back the following year with her debut studio album ‘Join The Club’, which reached #7 in the UK albums chart.

‘Unsinkable’, the first single from her new album, is an emotive song with a heartfelt melody and dramatic electro synths that lead into a vast and captivating choir-backed chorus. The track, whilst retaining Lucy’s trademark style, is a mature offering, which showcases Lucy’s adept songwriting and strong vocal. It was co-written with Adam Argyle and Martin Brammer (James Morrison, Olly Murs) and produced by Steve Power (Robbie Williams, Gary Barlow). Listen here:

Her new album ‘We Are’ was recorded in London and features 12 tracks that are a collection of sincere ballads and inspiring folk-tinged pop songs told in Lucy’s direct storytelling style about every day life. Lucy says; “I’m very much looking forward to releasing ‘We Are’ under my own steam. The album is basically a diary of the ups and downs of the last few years; appearing on The X Factor, moving to London, working hard and changing as a person. In some ways writing this record has been a bit of documentation for me and some of the songs are pretty revealing but I’m looking forward to sharing them.”

Lucy recently toured the UK as part of the Young Voices tour, which saw her perform five nights at London’s O2 Arena, along with performing five small UK headline dates, which sold out to fans in 9 minutes. She has just announced a full UK and Ireland tour in May, with live dates are as follows:
