Lewis Barfoot Announces New Single ‘Fisherman’ To Be Released Nov 6th
Fisherman is the new single by Irish/English singer and multi-instrumentalist Lewis Barfoot, set to be released on 6th November 2020. The lead single is taken from upcoming album Glenaphuca due in March 2021.
The ethereal song weaves a splendid tapestry of storytelling at its very finest and is accompanied by a stunning animated music video made by acclaimed Korean visual artist Narae Kim, which will premiere at the prestigious Cork International Film Festival in November 2020.
Fisherman is an autobiographical song that speaks of Lewis’ call to Ireland and her wish to unearth the legacy of her family. Setting her luminous voice against a backdrop of gently interweaving cello and clarinet, the song is intended to represent a siren-like call to Ireland with an ethereal phrase from the traditional Irish song Dúlamán.
The use of the traditional tune hypnotically captures the mystery of the ocean’s ancient call before building into a joyous finale, with multilayered evocative vocals and a playful reprise of the air Dúlamán as performed on fiddle by Scottish musician Elisabeth Flett.
Fisherman was produced by Lewis, recorded at Soup Studios, London and mastered by Pete Maher and features guest musicians Elisabeth Flett (Fiddle) Matt Dibble (Clarinet) Hannah Thomas (Cello) and Ansuman Biswas (Percussion).
Having cut her teeth on the London folk circuit, appearing regularly for institutions such as Nest Collective, Lewis has recently moved back to her maternal home of Ireland and is happily settled in Cork. Fisherman perfectly echoes the reconnection with Ireland.
