jsclogo

-Featured in the Discover Northern Ireland “Explore More” TV, Radio and Cinema Advert-

RELEASED ONLINE via iTunes on Feb 5th 2010

Also featuring ’Tiger Tales’ & ‘Heavyweight’

Described as ‘effortlessly monumental’ (AU Magazine), there is ‘no better advertisement for the Belfast scene right now’ (Nialler9) as John, Shelly & The Creatures are ‘one of the most exciting new names – bursting with talent’ (STATE.IE)

“Our favourite new band” Rigsy, BBC Across The Line

John, Shelly & The Creatures made a significant move in their musical career when they released their single ‘ANGELINE’ to receive critical acclaim and radio support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio Ulster, U105fm, Phantom Fm and many more. Following in the footsteps of fellow Northern Irish band SNOW PATROL, they then signed a publishing deal with Big Life Music Ltd (Snow Patrol, The Verve, Badly Drawn Boy…). Were their single “Long May You Reign” was featured in the Discover Northern Ireland TV, radio and cinema advert campaign. (A very extensive campaign covering The Republic of Ireland and the UK will see the band continue to be featured on TV adverts across: RTE, TV3, UTV, Channel 4, E4, MTV, Sky One, Sky Sports, Sky News, Setanta and throughout Cinemas and Radio waves Nationwide).

John Shelly and the Creatures formed in February 2007 after a chance meeting in Berlin with two homeless Irish twins named John and Shelly, and are made up of band members: Kevin Carlisle (Drums, percussion & vox), Philip Watts d’Alton (guitar, vox, keys, bass, mandolin), Ger Gormley (bass, guitar, mandolin, vox) and Walter (guitar, vox, keys, programming and drums). They are influenced by a wide variety of genres and are unafraid to mix things up when it comes to recording and playing live. They have spent the last few months in the studio recording their stunning debut album “Dinosaur” which has a release date set for March 5th 2010.

With a successful showcase band tour in 2009 all over the Uk, Ireland and Northern Ireland, John, Shelly and The Creatures also landed themselves on the bill for the IMRO Show case tour and a performed their own sell out show in Dublin’s legendary venue: Whelan’s. They have played with Irish luminaries such as Mundy & Dave Geraghty whilst on the road and closed the Tall Ships Festival in Belfast late last year. They also won “Best New Irish Act” at the Balcony TV awards in 09. State Magazine have just recently hailed them as “ones to watch for 2010” and they have just been awarded single of the week on Radio na Life. Their live show has become one of their strongest word of mouth endorsements and is truly a visual and audio feast to behold.

Looking back over 2009..Record deals.. Chart success.. Licensing & Music

Hello all, firstly, here’s to a Happy fun filled safe and pleasant Seasons greetings to you all. May you eat too much turkey and mince pies and reside nested by the warmth of a glowing fire over the Christmas of 2009.

But before all of that, let us take a look at this years highlights…

We always have the pleasure of working with such amazing acts here in the GS HQ, from The American Songstress ‘Nell Bryden’ who under our wing, got Playlisted across National & Regional Irish radio, enjoyed over 6 Today Fm live sessions, RTE Radio sessions and full regional radio tours around all the stations- played at some great Summer festivals and got a Top 40 Irish Charted single for her song ‘Second Time Around’. Not to forget singing for Pat Kenny before his final days on the Late Late TV Show on RTE with Pete Doherty on the same night.  Nell went on to sign a publishing deal and a record deal with Cooking Vinyl in the UK and went onwards to become the only independent artist (at the time) to get BBC Radio 2 Album of the week and A playlisted in the UK. ‘Eleanor McEvoy‘ released ‘Singled OUT’ her compilation album of all her Independently released singles. And that was received with much acclaim, not that we would expect anything less from Eleanor. She popped in to Ian Dempsey in Today FM to play some tracks from the album and also in to Pat Kenny in RTE Radio 1 and up to the lovely folk in BBC, Downtown Radio, U105 and regional radio around Ireland. A huge thanks to all in press who supported Eleanor’s album by offering their reviews and features.

Other great music releases of note where by ‘HITMAN LORD’ who’s musical offerings are a sign of great things to come in the new year,  ’Emmet Scanlan & What The Good Thought’, ‘Eoghan Colgan’, FIACH (RTE Playlisted on his debut single YOU DEAR and with follow up album ‘SO I’ scheduled for release in 2010- the sky is the limit), COLM LYNCH (RTE Playlisted and album TICKETY Boo scheduled for re-release next year), and ‘The River Valley Band’,whose debut single Kimberly soared the charts in at no. 21 in its first week- they went on to perform for 20,000 spectators at the interval of the Leinster rugby match. That was EPIC. ‘Carosel’ released their single Easy As It Flows for free download exclusively from their website and received over 1000 downloads in the first week. They were then invited into RTE Studios by Pat Kenny to perform it live. They then headed back into studio to record their ep STAR which will be released next year. They are currently in France touring.

‘HOGAN’ – the rock/pop Blink 182-ish fantastically stunning- illuminated Band (no really they are illuminated) SIGNED an ENDORSEMENT DEAL WITH LAKEWOOD GUITARS. Then got playlisted on FM104, iRadio and more stations and across radio in Ireland. Played to over 800 people in their hometown on the release of their single PS YOU’RE Crazy and where offered a Publishing Deal. They mellowed out the year by being nominated for an IMTV Best Newcomer Video Award too and settled back into the studio with Manic Street preacher and Supergrass producer Greg Haver to record and finish their debut studio album, set for release next year. MUGGER DAVE were hailed as One of Ireland’s most promising Act’s! by THE IRISH TIMES. The band, while preparing for the release of their debut album, where heard by a scout at a gig in Dublin and later signed a licensing agreement with the US licensing company The Music Playground (partners to THE LODGE who are teamed up with Chrysalis Music Group to Create New Arrangements of Top Catalog Songs for Advertising, Film and TV). Mugger Dave are delighted to be amongst their stable of artists including Blondie, GenerationX & Willie Nelson.

CLIVE BARNES also released The Ghost Country to massive critical acclaim from the Irish media. As well as having his music feature in Hollywood film GOSPEL HILL starring Samuel L Jackson, Julia Stiles and Ben Glover. IAN WHITTY AND THE EXCHANGE were awarded the FEEL GOOD ALBUM of THE AUTUMN” by The Daily Star. Today FM also granted them The Daily Download on Tony Fenton’s hit afternoon show. Their album Lucky Caller No.9 also was hailed as one of the ‘Top five Irish albums of this year’ in the 96FM listener poll. WAYNE BRENNAN released his album In My Hands and performed his music across almost every radio station in this country and received playlisting across the spectrum of Irish radio far and wide. He was also Interviewed on TV3’s Ireland AM, was awarded RTE1 playlisting on his single MAKE YOU SMILE and The Irish Times wrote- “ Unquestionably, Brennan is a first- timer with an original voice – and something to say”. He finished up the year singing a Licensing deal in the US.

There are so many more acts that we have had the sincere pleasure of working with. This is why we love our job.

And thank you to all our friends and colleagues in Radio, Press, TV and not to forget the Blogging & Online community who have nurtured and supported our acts throughout the year.

www.subplotrecords.com NOW!

The Music industry IS changing. Some see it as a significant demise; others see it as a natural Revolve. SubPlot Records isn’t claiming to be a groundbreaking new industry model. It’s not a revolutionary new concept: It’s an age-old tale of pulling together, taking things into your own hands and doing what you believe in.

Ireland, in the winter of 2009 seems a fitting time and place for the birth of a new Independent record label that will live and die by these principals. By paying homage to the very best of alternative music Ireland can produce, living or dying outside the bounds of the templates of the crumbling cultural monopoly known as the music industry. The result is a progressive, edgy, twenty-first century music label that utilizes and embraces the tools at hand – the online and the face to face, the physical and the digital, while establishing uncompromising principles.

Auxiliary to the mainstream -”SUBPLOT”- is a musician’s label whose purpose lies in being a platform for energetic, honest and simply explosive alternative rock bands. It is not the brainchild of industry veterans, but the brainchild of producers, musicians and fans that share a refreshing and respectful love of music.

THE RIVER VALLEY BANDS- SINGLE- “KIMBERLY” is out on Oct 16th 2009

‘Collectively made up of Danny Coady on vocals, mandolin & rhythm guitar, Eoghan Leadbetter on piano & rhythm guitar, Conor Brett on lead guitar & vocals,  Liam Teehan on bass guitar and finally David Thompson on drums & vocals. These are 5 young men with instruments in their hands and a recession at their feet’.

Described by radio around Ireland as “Absolutely Brilliant- they will be pushing doors open where ever they go!” – PAT KENNY RTE RADIO 1, “Absolutely Fantastic”- Dublin’s Country Mix, “ Class” – WLRFM. The River Valley Band’s music is drenched in a ‘semi-south American rock and roll country tone’, so do not be surprised of the fact that they are all Kilkenny-born. Reminiscent of The Band, insofar as it’s evident that these are five individual musicians working democratically, they are not led by any one or two persons with added musicians filling ‘roles’, but are a collaboration of ideas and come across as a rich and textured mature sounding group.  Their first offering – a full bellied assortment of deep rooted rock n’ roll is titled ‘KIMBERLY’ and has a release date of 12.01 am on October the 16th in the year 2009. All steps in their master plan for releasing their first album, Drunk in the Wine Cellar, in early 2010. The music for the album was written behind a glassblowing factory, with plenty of heat, tea, coffee, comfortable chairs and an ensemble of instruments.

Official TOUR: After a full house in The Academy2 in late September 2009, The River Valley Band came to the conclusion that the live circuit needs them…. A full Nationwide tour will be announced very soon on their website and will see the band play all over Ireland with some European dates too in November 09 right up till 2010. They play this weekend in their hometown of Kilkenny in The Bridgebrook Arms on Friday night, and on the Saturday night they will play in Ryans Back Room in Kilkenny after an earlier instore @4pm in Heart Beat City record shop.

For guest press/radio dj passes to their gigs: please feel free to contact me at linda@goodseedpr.com

Many kind regards,
