GROOVE ARMADA RELEASE AA NEW SINGLE
‘Look Me In The Eye Sister/Just For Tonight’– Both Tracks Featuring Jess Larrabee
New AA-Side Single Out April 26th
On ‘Work It’ Recordings In Partnership With Cooking Vinyl
Plus Major Festival Dates Announced
-V, Oxygen, T in the park, The Great Escape –
Groove Armada – Andy Cato and Tom Findlay – release a wicked double-punch AA-side single ‘Look Me In The Eye Sister/Just For Tonight’ on April 26th. Both tracks are taken from their fifth studio album ‘Black Light’, which is widely considered among their best work to date (“SHOULD FILL EVERY DANCE FLOOR ON THE PLANET” ***** THE SUN, “A REVELATION” **** UNCUT, “A BOLD STEP FORWARD” **** Q, “THEIR BEST ALBUM” **** SUNDAY TIMES).
Both written and produced by Andy Cato and Tom Findlay, ‘Look Me In The Eye Sister’ is a spiky, beefed-up slab of Yeah Yeah Yeahs-style electro-rock while ‘Just For Tonight’ is the album’s gorgeous mellow gem. “We’ve decided to go for a double A-side, as much as those things exist in the digital world,” says Andy. “We’re being a bit contrary there because apparently ‘History’ is currently the most downloaded individual track.”
Both feature guest vocals from Jess Larrabee of Brooklyn folk/blues duo She Keeps Bees, whom Groove Armada have yet to meet. “We got really into her albums and started emailing tracks for her to add vocals,” says Andy. “Her music usually has more of a White Stripes kind of vibe. She got really into the disco flavour and absolutely nailed it.”
The release – available to buy digitally – also includes remixes of ‘Look Me In The Eye Sister’ by Urchins, Audiojack and Morten Sorensen.
The track listings for the two digital singles are:
Look Me In The Eye Sister
Look Me In The Eye Sister (Urchins Mix)
Look Me In The Eye Sister (Audiojack Mix)
Look Me In The Eye Sister (Morten Sorensen Mix)
Just For Tonight
Groove Armada bring their blissful party vibe to the Great Escape festival in Brighton (May 13th-15th) and to 3 other major festival dates this summer at T in the Park (July 9th-11th), Oxegen (July 9th-11th) and V Festival (August 20th-22nd). “V’s going to be interesting,” says Andy, “because we’re going on before Cheryl Cole. All I can say is “Good luck Cheryl!”

The real Sandi Thom has stepped forward, and surely no one has ever been quite so happy to get the blues. On May 17th, a new Sandi emerges with ‘Merchants and Thieves,’ an album that brilliantly reflects how she’s opened up a whole new channel for her creativity. Retaining her innate feeling for a powerful melody and a trenchant lyric, the record adds the new blues sensibility that visitors to her famously powerful gigs have sensed for themselves in recent months. Receiving airtime on LMFM, Dublin’s Country, Rte Radio1, Rte Lyric FM & Regional Radio. Nigel Connell was born into a musical family of two brothers and two sisters. He was the youngest of five and once he could walk, it meant he could talk and eventually sing, so into the family band he went and it was here where his skills as a Drummer and Singer developed. His first Live performance was at the age of 13 in the family band, he later joined the The Legendary Cotton Mill Boys and went on his first tour at the age of 15. Addicted to the stage, Nigel went on to Play Support to legendary Music luminaries such as Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash, June Carter, Martina MC Bride, Randy Travis, Vince Gill, Steve Earle, Glen Campbell & John Denver. No stranger to performing on national Television, Nigel has performed his musical skills on a variety of Irelands finest: Live at Three, Up for the Match, Kenny Live, Nationwide, The Late Late Show, Phil Coulter and The Bibi Baskin Show. Nigel has also performed on radio Nationwide such as RTE Radio 1, 2fm, Phantom FM and Dublin’s Country to name but a handful.
On his Debut Album, he recruited in the Multi Platinum Producer Mark Cahill (who worked on the Number 1 US billboard selling album with The Irish Tenors). The album is embellished by an evident Romantic & Classical feel to it throughout, yet wholly embraces Nigel’s vocal capability and sentiment as a performer, with Orchestral performances by The Irish Session Orchestra and the Mullingar Cathedral Choir. Epic in some proportions – it will certainly ease you in by its lush string arrangements and fine production. Each track has a different edge, with preludes that introduce you to a world of music that has no boundaries. Nell Bryden, has announced she will be releasing a new digital download single, Tonight (Ash Howes Radio Mix), on Monday 19th April. Her last single, Not Like Loving You, spent an incredible six weeks on the BBC Radio 2 A List, and was described by the Daily Mirror (****) as “a big bold production – keening pedal steels, bright edgy horns and a massed choir – push the incomparable thrill of the title to the fore. Swell” . The original version of Tonight can be found on Bryden’s recently released album What Does It Take?
Bryden is fast becoming one of the most talked about and sought after new artists, building the buzz the old-fashioned way with word-of-mouth endorsements of her live shows. With four international tours (and 500 shows) in the last 18 months under her belt, including tours with KT Tunstall, and The Counting Crows, and a self-released debut single, What Does It Take, spending 7 weeks on the BBC R2 A-list (Second Time Around spent over 2 months on the RTE Radio1 playlist and was Song of the Week on Today FM)- she is definitely one to watch. Bryden also appeared on RTE TV’s the Late Late show on her first single release of Second Time Around.
Nell Bryden will be performing a DUBLIN show in CRAWDADDY on Monday 31st May 2010. Tickets are priced at €12.

Brendan Perry releases his second solo album, ‘Ark’, on Friday 4th June. As one half of Dead Can Dance for nearly three decades, Brendan’s music has been heard by fans around the world and Dead Can Dance remain the biggest selling artists to ever grace 4AD.
Recorded in his own studio in Ireland, ‘Ark’ is a truly solo album, Brendan playing every instrument, writing all the lyrics and being the sole creative force across the eight tracks. All of the instrumentation on ‘Ark’ is derived from samples and synthesisers and, in its creators own words, is predicated on a theory of creating ‘a neutral electronic soundscape which would in turn mirror a world that is becoming increasingly more dependent upon machines to perform tasks for us’. In its range of influences, the album encompasses music from all four corners of the globe to create a global soundtrack for global themes.
Whilst ‘Ark’ is not a concept album in the original sense of the term, it combines themes which run throughout its eight tracks. The lyrics of opener ‘Babylon’ focus on the current conflicts within the Middle East and combine with ‘The Bogus Man’ and ‘This Boy’ to put a human face on those charged with waging war on behalf of politicians. Concurrently with the investigations of conflict and political corruption are considerations of the detrimental effects of human behavior on the natural world and the alienation caused by an increasingly machine driven world.
Whilst such dystopian themes could be seen to make for a very bleak experience, ‘Ark’ is shot through with an emotional warmth and a belief in the redemptive power of humanity from which the album title is derived, ‘Ark’ being not just the refuge of the world but a starting point for a better society and a more organic way of life. To accompany ‘Ark’, Brendan will play selected shows in the UK & Ireland, details to follow soon.

Bio info: The Frank and Walters are one of the most recognizable alternative rock bands hailing from Cork, Ireland in the past 2 decades. The band: Paul Linehan (Lead vocal & bass), Ashley Keating- (Drums) & Kevin Pedreschi (lead Guitar) took the band name in honour of two eccentric Cork characters. Two decades on from the release of their very first record, and the Franks continue to defy expectations. Their music today is as relevant as any of the new pretenders on the block and only a handful of bands anywhere in the world can lay claim to such longevity of popularity. IN THE VILLAGE ON THURSDAY APRIL 22ND 2010
The release of the critically acclaimed first album “A Whisper in a Riot”, put his vocal and songwriting skills on show to the nation for the first time. It received glowing plaudits from the likes of Dave Fanning, Hotpress, The Irish Times, In Dublin and a host of other people and publications. It was Album of the Week on Larry Gogan’s 2FM Radio show. Singles released from the album got extensive airplay on national and local radio. He also won the Balcony TV Best Male Award in 2007.
His current album, being his second studio album titled: Tickety-Boo, is picking up where he left off. While more polished, it still possesses the same characteristics that made his debut such a winner. Whether in a mellow mood or just plain aggressive, the music always comes from the heart. This is plain to see when witnessed in live performances. Remaining true to his philosophy that ‘a good song should have a strong melody and meaningful lyrics’, the ten track album features hit singles “It’s Coming Down” (previously playlisted on TODAY FM and 2FM) and the RTE playlisted “If I was In Your Shoes”.
Anyone expecting to see a singer-songwriter soulfully whispering into a microphone should think again. This will be a fevered, rock n’ roll affair! After all, there are only two schools of thought on Colm Lynch’s music: those who are confirmed fans and those who haven’t heard him yet! Whether playing to hundreds of people in venues like Vicar St. Dublin or to a tiny audience somewhere off the beaten track, Lynch always delivers a memorable performance.
