Josh Orange – “Devil at the Backdoor” Single Release
From the album “Birds for The Bayou”
Release Date: November 1st, 2024

The creative juices are flowing for Australian folk rockers Josh Orange as they continue to make waves in the music scene. Following the release of their fifth studio album, Birds for The Bayou, which has been praised as “…outstanding, a marvellous sonic journey” (Thoughts Words Actions, August 24), the band is set to release their next single, “Devil at the Backdoor”, on November 1st, 2024.

The track has already garnered attention for its distinctive sound. Music Mecca (July 24) describes the song as “…tastefully dissonant, with vintage keys and ever-giving guitar, channeling a Modest Mouse-like playfulness and The War on Drugs-style vocals, all while staying true to the band’s pop-folk roots.” It’s a standout moment on the album, offering both originality and nostalgia.

Gordon Burke, frontman and lead vocalist, recently celebrated the album’s release with a sold-out performance at Whelan’s in Dublin, where he was joined on stage by long-time friends Gavin Glass and producer Pete Holidai. Burke, originally from Drimnagh, Dublin, is no stranger to the music world—he’s the son of Fergus Burke, guitarist of the legendary Royal Showband, and grew up surrounded by Ireland’s finest musicians, with sound checks and jam sessions being a natural part of his upbringing.

Josh Orange are no strangers to success either. Their song “I Will Follow You” won the 2022 SAW (Mid Atlantic Songwriting Competition) and reached Number 1 on Australia’s AMRAP Metro Singles Chart. Now, the band is excited to bring “Devil at the Backdoor” to the forefront, a track that Burke describes as both “uncomfortable yet deeply calming.” He reflects on the song’s themes: “It deals with uncomfortable situations, things I’ve had to confront in my own life. But there’s peace in the rhythm—it’s soothing, even as those battles belong to the past.”

Josh Orange, based in Sydney, Australia, released their debut album in 2006, but it was their 2021 breakout album, Midnight Lights, that put them on the map. With their fifth album, Birds for The Bayou, the band takes listeners on an 11-track journey through love, soul searching, contentment, and the celebration of life.

The official video for “Devil at the Backdoor” will be released in tandem with the single, and the band is currently finalising dates for an Australian tour in support of the album.

“Devil at the Backdoor” will be available worldwide through Believe Music on November 1st, 2024.
