JOSH ORANGE ‘Birds For the Bayou’ June 28 2024
Josh Orange formed in Sydney’s Inner West Suburb of Glebe in 2004. Founding members Andrew Wass and Gordon Burke remain at the core of the band 20 years on. Burke, originally from Drimnagh in Dublin Ireland, moved to Sydney in 1997. Gordon is the son of Royal Showband Guitarist Fergus Burke, and grew up surrounded by musicians. Gordon found success in Dublin in the early 90’s with Bands Both Ends Burning and his owned band Suddenly Smith, who recorded the top 30 hit Breakthru with Pete Holidai and a young Gavin Glass joined shortly after on lead guitar.
Josh Orange released their first album in 2006, and almost 20 years later the band released their fifth studio album “Birds For The Bayou” on June 28 2024. Their sound has developed over time, with the core of the band still together after 20 years. Winners of the SAW Mid Atlantic Songwriting Competition, Washington DC 2022, with their Americana styled song “I Will Follow You”. The band have chalked up four Australian AMRAP Metro No.1 Singles since 2020, and reached their first million streams on Spotify in 2024. The band are excited to be releasing a new album, and to continue their journey together as a decent bunch of Aussie Battlers.
The album “Birds For The Bayou” was probably the most stop/start album the band have made to date. Frontman Gordon Burke describes the experience as exhausting and oftentimes overwhelming…..
“We were trying to find the sound more than anything, we didn’t want to repeat the sound of Midnight Lights, and we had numerous recording sessions that we simply binned. After we released “The Last Time” in early 2023, and a sold out Sydney show, we decided to go back to the basics.
We finally found some momentum after much trial and error in late 2023, and we finally finished recording eleven new tracks in April 2024. The band will celebrate 20 years of making music together in 2024, and we are really proud to mark that with a fifth studio album”.
