Cooking Vinyl is having a great year in 2012, as albums by recent signings achieve chart success, including two UK top-ten releases. Scottish indie-rockers The View recently received excellent reviews and yesterday achieved a #9 in the OCC Album Chart with ‘Cheeky for a Reason’ (which also hit #1 in the Independent Album Charts), propelling them onto the Summer’s festival circuit, including dates at Reading and Leeds Festivals. One of several key releases in May, The Enemy’s ‘Streets in the Sky’ also charted at #9 in the OCC Album Charts.
Cooking Vinyl has also seen three albums in the official albums chart top 20 – (The Cult’s ‘Choice of Weapon, Reverend & the Makers’ ‘@reverend_makers’ and Marilyn Manson’s ‘Born Villain’). It also landed another three in the top 40 – (The Proclaimers’ ‘Like Comedy’, Cranberries’ ‘Roses’ and Counting Crows’ ‘Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation)’). This means that the label has had 8 charting album in 2012 so far, further cementing its reputation as a powerhouse independent.
May saw Marilyn Manson’s ‘Born Villain’ charting in the UK at #14, reaching number ten in the US albums chart and topping Billboard’s Hard Rock and Independent album charts. The first release on his own label, Hell etc., a joint venture with Cooking VInyl, its success is affirmation of the emerging bespoke label model for which Cooking Vinyl is steadily gaining its reputation. In addition, The Cult’s ‘Choice of Weapon’ reached #20 in the UK albums chart, outperforming the previous album by 52 chart places, as well as hitting the top spot on the UK Rock Chart.
In June, Sheffield band Reverend & The Makers’ ‘@reverend_makers’ reached #16 in the UK album chart, following a tour with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
Said Rob Collins Director Cooking Vinyl Records “It’s great to see everyone’s hard work over the past year paying off and we’re proud to be able to provide our artists with results like these”
