Charles James & The Rise Announce New Single “The Elephants”

Charles James & The Rise play ramblin’ atmospheric folk influenced by the sounds of early Americana, roots, and their home county of Donegal, Ireland.

Performing as a duo live they seek to expand their sound in the studio with the concept of The Rise. A variety of musicians are enlisted to explore all avenues with the songs.

Their debut EP ‘Long Way From Here’ was released in 2019, and garnered airplay across Ireland, Northern Ireland, and America.

The upcoming single “The Elephants” will be released in March with their debut album following in the Summer of 2023.

About the song/behind the lyrics –
The Elephants was inspired by the loss of my father in late 2020 and the journey that followed. The grief and hopelessness that follows an unexpected death is expressed throughout the song.

The weight of the elephant on your chest is depression and anxiety and the paralysis you can feel on an almost daily basis. Anybody listening to the song will hopefully recognise that we may all have our Elephant at different points in our lives but there is always hope and you are not alone.

Musical Influences –
Writing influences include Kris Kristofferson, Dylan, and John Prine as well as more
contemporary songwriters such as Jason Isbell, Damien Rice, and Brandi Carlile.

Musically the band is influenced by the Laurel Canyon sound of the 60s, the interwoven harmonies of Simon & Garfunkel as well as the idea of the old Irish kitchen sing-song.

Recorded: Blast Furnace Recording Studio, Derry
Producer: Orri McBrearty (Rosie Carney, Dark Tropics, Chanele McGuinness)
Mixed: Orri McBrearty
Mastered: Richard Dowling at WAV Mastering, Limerick

Christian Wethered [pron. Wether-Red] is an Irish based poet and songwriter based in Dublin. His new single ‘Way Back’ is a nostalgic ode to summer love.

It’s his second single from his French-inspired E.P, ‘Mon Petit Jardin’, which was recorded at Asta Kalapa, Wexford, by Darragh Nolan. The Single is set for an Aug 21st digital release.

The E.P, which charts a breakup, was recorded with drummer Dyl Lynch (Little Green Cars /Soda Blonde / Zaska), and pianist/bassist/guitarist Cil Byrne (Basciville). The eerie melodies draw on the likes of Leonard Cohen, as well as Fionn Regan, London Grammar and The XX.

Since his student days, Wethered has collaborated with a number of prestigious Irish acts such as Loah, I Have A Tribe, Little Green Cars, Danny Forde, Trinity Orchestra and Zaska. He’s also in the Discovery Gospel Choir, who play a number of festivals around the country. His debut poetry book, ‘I Don’t Love You’, was shortlisted for the Melita Hume Prize in 2018. AWOLNATION PREMIERES NEW VIDEO ‘WOMAN WOMAN’

February 24, 2016 – AWOLNATION has released the video for their new single WOMAN WOMAN’. The Marc Klasfeld (Foo Fighters, Jay-Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers)-directed clip premiered via The Late Late Show with James Corden this week in advance of the band’s performance on the show last night of which you can see HERE.

Aaron Bruno, the musical architect behind AWOLNATION, worked closely with Klasfeld on a video that exemplified the track’s themes. “I was excited to be able to work with Marc on this” says Bruno. “Right away he understood the song and that I wanted to create something lighthearted, energetic and authentic featuring women in their natural state, and I think that really comes through in the video.” “It’s a celebration” Klasfeld adds about the music video, which was cast with all actual musicians.  “A hymn to all women. We didn’t add any makeup, we didn’t use any big styling elements, obviously we didn’t use any clothes…”

Taken from the album ‘RUN’, ‘WOMAN WOMAN’ follows on from their massive worldwide hit single ‘SAIL’ which is now certified: 10 x Platinum in Norway, 6 x Platinum in USA and Canada, 5 x Platinum in Sweden, 2 x Platinum in Australia and New Zealand, Platinum in Switzerland and Gold in UK, Germany and Austria. The track was also longest-charting song by an independent artist in Billboard Hot 100 history, amassing hundreds of millions of video views and streaming plays online globally.
