ELEANOR MCEVOY

I’D RATHER GO BLONDE (MOSCD408) Brand new studio album to be released 17th September

RMG are delighted to announce that a new Eleanor McEvoy studio album, entitled “I’d Rather Go Blonde”, is to be released on 17 September 2010 [Cat. No. MOSCD408].  The album features eleven new songs, nine of which were penned by McEvoy, one by former Beautiful South man Dave Rotheray and, finally, there’s a cover of “Good Times” by Sam Cooke.

“I’d Rather Go Blonde” is the eighth album in a twenty year career that has seen McEvoy establish herself as one of Ireland’s most accomplished singer / songwriters.  Never one to shy away from the big issues, this album sees McEvoy tackling themes such as alienation, hypocrisy, recent Irish history and romance.  The songs are typified by a lyrical élan and often leavened with a touch of humour – “For Avoidance Of Any Doubt” features a plaintive soul using her solicitor to berate an absent lover for not returning calls, and the title track is built around a phrase that just made McEvoy laugh!

As she says herself, “I always try to express myself clearly and honestly. I was the odd one, the tubby girl with glasses who had to go to violin lessons after school. The ray of sunlight was the radio with its music. The escape was learning to sing and play instruments and play with others and write and just get out there. Anyway this album is all me, and I am very proud of it.”

Her music has evolved and developed over her career and this album is a confident statement.  Her continuing absorption and influence by other forms of music continues to delight and confound any listener who may attempt to pigeon-hole her simply with reference to the winsome ‘Only A Woman’s Heart’ which appeared on the massively popular album “A Woman’s Heart” back in 1992.  That was then, this is now!  “I’d Rather Go Blond” has been mixed by Ruadhri Cushnan’ who did the breakthrough Mumford & Sons record of this year and has a willfully contemporary relevance.

She will also undertake a headline tour of her own in October/November where she will be playing tracks from throughout her career but also of course from “I’d Rather Go Blonde”.  Seewww.eleanormcevoy.com. For all updates.

Gavin Glass

Gavin Glass Releases his new single ‘BLEED’ on the 20TH AUGUST via iTunes

‘BLEED’ is the second single to be taken from Dubliner Gavin Glass’ critically acclaimed third album, ‘Myna Birds’.  It combines Glass’ effortless song writing style with beautiful arrays of piano, bass and ceremonious guitar licks in a mesh of Summery Motown bliss.

Glass spent the last two years working & touring with the Mercury nominated Lisa Hannigan as a multi-instrumentalist in her band and contributed to her recent album ‘Sea-Sew’.

‘Myna Birds’, which features collaborations with members of The Black Crowes & Wilco, was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee during a break from Lisa Hannigan’s recent North American tour. An introduction to Steve Gorman of the Black Crowes after a show in Boston led to an all-star band being put together, featuring: Audley Freed (Black Crowes, Train, Cry of Love, Dixie Chicks), Ken Coomer (Wilco, Uncle Tupelo) and Jen Gunderman (Jayhawks). Gavin and the band set-up camp in Nashville’s Eastwood Studios and recorded the album on the endangered format of analogue tape over an intensive two-weeks in March of last year. The album was then completed with the help of friends back in Dublin in between Hannigan’s hectic touring schedule. ‘BLEED’ is the 2nd single from the album, following ‘Just like Rome’ which graced radio playlists across the country and included the B-Side ‘Ooh LA LA’ (Faces Cover) that Glass recorded for the METEOR TV ADVERT.

‘Myna Birds’ was released on Orphan records + is available in all stores NOW!

JOHN, SHELLY & THE CREATURES

NEW single: ‘FOOLS’ + bonus track ‘THE FIRST MOVE’ out Aug 13th + Live instore in Tower Records (Dublin) at 1pm on Aug 13th

Links to the Band Website: www.johnshellyandthecreatures.com

‘FOOLS’ is a defiant twist of the multi faceted musical dimension of Belfast city’s: John, Shelly & the Creatures. Formed after a chance meeting they had in a bar in Berlin with two homeless Irish twins named ‘John and Shelly’…it’s a really good story so we won’t ruin it here for you…. but…none of the bands names are actually John or Shelly……

Their first single ‘LONG MAY YOU REIGN’, received (and still receives) critical acclaim. It featured in The Northern Irish Tourist Board TV, Radio and Cinema Advert. They performed the song live, to over 20,000 spectators in the RDS arena, which was a high moment for the band in their short career to date. Their last single ‘KILLER’ was performed live across a number of TV shows including Dave Fannings 11th Hour, BBC2’s Imeall Gael & on an official live web stream on Muzu.TV featuring JEDWARD (yes Jedward!) as the bands backing dancers.

On the lead up to their Debut album launch they performed on Ireland’s biggest and most well known TV show: THE LATE LATE SHOW, where Ryan Tubridy later invited the band to perform on his radio show for the reopening of the Natural History Museum. He described them as: “Not only a great band but a great bunch of lads”.

Achieving quite an accomplishment for an unsigned band doing it on their own, their album has received rave reviews from national publications, declaring the band as ‘BRILLIANT..  Dazzling’ (Irish Independent), ‘Sublime’ (Irish Mirror), “Effortlessly monumental’ (AU)…& destined for greatness… it was also hotly tipped for a Choice Music Prize Nomination by Irish Music Journalist Tony Clayton Lea of The Irish Times who wrote: “an exceptional grasp of texture, tone and theme. A shoe-in for next year’s Choice Music Prize nominations list?”

For now the band are working on album No.2 and looking forward to releasing a new single from the current album Dinosaur titled FOOLS.

THE SAW DOCTORS

THE SAW DOCTORS/// ‘TAKIN’ THE TRAIN’ - NEW SINGLE OUT AUGUST 20TH

Taken from the new studio album ‘The Further Adventures of The Saw Doctors’ out Sept 10th

Irish dates just Announced: Fri. 24th Sept: CORKS SAVOY & Sat. 25th DUBLINS, OLYMPIA Theatre

One year is becoming hard to sustain for modern bands trying their hand in the music business nowadays, so it is that little bit more impressive to know that in the past 20 years The Saw Doctors have emerged as the most successful Irish rock band since U2. With a list of Chart success on numerous songs over the years such as well known favourites: “N17”, “I Useta Lover”, and more recently a cover of SUGABABES “About You Now”, (note that The Sugababes’ original version of About You Now stalled at No. 2 in the Irish Chart while The Saw Doctors reached No. 1!) plus many more, have helped The Saw Doctors maintain their defiant musical stance on the scene

In the last eighteen months, Ireland’s Critically acclaimed Saw Doctors have blazed back phoenix-like, to their rightful place as the nation’s most-loved band. Vastly accredited for their storming exuberant live shows, their substantial phalanx of hardcore fans on both sides of the Atlantic has never wavered in support. For many artists a Lifetime Achievement Award comes towards the end of a long and acclaimed career but for The Saw Doctors, it came at the start of their second sprint to the top – just three days after their momentous appearance on the Podge And Rodge Show on RTE television (2008), they were awarded a LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD IN THE METEOR AWARDS. “I suppose we’re a bit like an old dress,” says Leo Moran with a wry philosophical smile. “If you keep it long enough, it’s bound to come back into fashion.

Prior to the eagerly anticipated release of their first album in almost 5 years: The Further Adventures, The Saw Doctors release the guitar driven, custom made for radio, POP/ROCK single TAKIN’ THE TRAIN, which boasts a new sound from an ever evolving band. The current lineup features:  Leo Moran (vocals, guitar), Davy Carton (vocals, guitar), Kevin Duffy (keyboards), Anthony Thistlethwaite (bass guitar, saxophone), and new drummer and co writer Eímhín Cradock (drums + vocals).

2010 and here is a band withstanding the odds of the current music age, who still know how to recreate and procreate the tunes that put them were they are now = part of Irelands elite, well-known and most loved bands of the past two decades. And they are only getting warmed up for round three!

THE CHARLATANS

THE CHARLATANS: NEW ALBUM ‘WHO WE TOUCH’ (COOKCD527) RELEASED 10/09/10

RADIO SINGLE: ‘Love Is Ending’ is released on July 30th.

ALBUM: ‘Who We Touch’ is released on September 10th.

With a career that has already spanned two decades, The Charlatans – Martin Blunt (bass), Jon Brookes (drums), Tim Burgess (vocals), Mark Collins (guitar) and Tony Rogers (keyboards) - release their new album ‘Who We Touch’, on September 10th 2010.

Their eleventh studio album, ‘Who We Touch’ was produced by Youth (Paul McCartney, Primal Scream and The Verve) and was recorded at Britannia Row in London, on the desk that New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’ was recorded on. Featuring eleven tracks, the album must surely rank as their boldest to date radically broadening, in places, their aesthetic remit. It is, says Burgess, “a soulful voyage”, a journey through moods uplifting and profound, dark and delirious, ultimately concluding in blissful optimism. Its sound is inspired by many heroes, yet always sounds like no-one other than The Charlatans themselves.

Opener, ‘Love Is Ending’, is the first single to be taken from the album, released on August 2nd. ‘Oh!’ is a beautiful song of reconciliation, as complex as its shifting time signatures (one section is in 3/4 waltz time), and then ‘You Can Swim’, an exquisite ooze of ambience, reminiscent of ‘Another Green World’-era Eno, with whose creative ideas the album began. Lurking at the end of the album is hidden track ‘I Sing The Body Eclectic’ featuring Crass’s Penny Rimbauld on vocals. Gee Vaucher who did the iconic artwork for all of Crass’s releases, also provides ‘Who We Touch’ with it’s eerie collaged cover image.

The full tracklisting is;

‘Love Is Ending’, ‘My foolish Pride’, ‘Your Pure Soul’, ‘Smash The System’, ‘Intimacy’, ‘Sincerity’, ‘Trust In Desire’, ‘When I Wonder’, ‘Oh!’, ‘You Can Swim’

It has been hailed as Zane Lowe’s hottest record in the world – Scribble!

The track received its first airing anywhere in the world on Zane Lowe’s show on BBC Radio 1 on Thursday 13th May 2010, between 7 and 9pm. A radio edit will be made available as a free download for one week only from the band’s website www.underworldlive.com immediately after Zane’s show, and simultaneously to buy from the bands shop in high quality formats. FANTASTIC VOYAGE

FANTASTIC VOYAGE PRESENTS:
FOUR COMPILATIONS AVAILABLE FROM:
FRIDAY THE 13TH of August.
(Irish rel. Dates applied)
http://www.fantasticvoyagemusic.com/catalogue_list.aspx?cat=fv

Four ‘must have’ collectable recordings of blue grass, mambo, jazz, soul, pop & beats that have heralded soundtracks across the decades.

Titles are as follows::

It took a while, ten years in fact, before the music, mood and majesty of the mambo entered the mainstream. Cuban bandleader Perez Prado first introduced the dance at La Tropicana night-club in Havana, and through a natural and gradual process the message quickly spread. Taking its name from a variety of sources including a Haitian voodoo priestess, the mambo was a flamboyant form of self-expression that blended rhythmic swing with ethnic canción. When the trend made its way north, largely through migrants working in the big cities, the hip and the glamorous in New York went crazy over what they heard. Record company scouts hit the ballrooms and saw first hand how dance-crazed enthusiasts, affectionately known as “mambonicks”, were clamouring to hear the authentic exponents like Tito Puente, Machito and Xavier Cugat.

Welcome back to the Ember Lounge where you’re now greeted on the door as a regular. The soundtrack remains an impeccably blended cocktail of predominantly sixties recordings. Equal measures of top notch easy listening (courtesy of John Barry and Mark Wirtz), light jazz featuring some of Britain’s top names (Tony Crombie, Bill Le Sage, Ken Moule and Tommy Whittle) and torch songs from divas Annie Ross and Lita Roza, are blended with sumptuously-arranged pop from Twiggy and Chad & Jeremy, spiced up with a couple of novelty instrumentals and a single shot of funky rock. All sourced from the vaults of British indie label Ember. The mood ranges from breezy, to exhilarating, to exotic, ending on a melancholic note, as you reluctantly take your leave and hail a cab home.

This set has been compiled to represent the three most commercially successful groups of the post-war explosion of traditional bluegrass from its “labour pains” in 1945 through its widespread acceptance in the late 1950s shortly before the revolution in progressive bluegrass. As with the beginnings of all new music, early bluegrass was fraught with animosity between rivals and former colleagues, incestuous relationships between the personnel of the first bands and professional jealousy, but these three CDs contain arguably the greatest examples of this newly-minted music from its greatest purveyors.

There was nobody quite like Lightnin’ Hopkins. John Lee Hooker may have made more records but even he couldn’t match the consistently high level of Hopkins’ creativity. He and his vast repertoire represented the epitome of Texas country blues. No question. He came from a musical family and his unique guitar style was fashioned from the traditions he learned in the presence of Blind Lemon Jefferson and Texas Alexander, a distant cousin. His guitar both underscored and complemented the songs he drew from his own life and the lives of those around him. His recording career began in 1946 and hardly paused for the next three decades.

In 1985, songer-songwriter Suzanne Vega released her stunning self-titled debut album. 25 years and 7 million album sales later, she is widely regarded as one of the most brilliant songwriters of her generation. Now Suzanne is reinterpreting a majority of her catalogue in an intimate and personal way, creating 4 new thematic albums that will be released over the next 2 years. First is Suzanne Vega Close-Up, Vol 1, Love Songs, which will include stripped down versions of her influential hit Marlene On The Wall, bossa nova favourite Caramel and many more.

Suzanne Vega Close-Up, Vol 1, Love Songs tracklisting:

Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk music revival of the early 1980s when, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, she sang what have been labelled contemporary folk or neo-folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs. Since the release of her critically acclaimed, eponymous debut album in 1985, she has sold over 7 million albums, received 7 Grammy award nominations and played sold-out shows in many of the world’s best-known halls.

Platinum-selling second album ‘Solitude Standing’ produced runaway hit ‘Luka’, about child abuse, which won MTV’s Best Female Video award and Suzanne was the first artist on the main stage at the very first Lilith Fair. Her a cappella hit ‘Tom’s Diner’ has been remixed upwards of 25 times, including most famously by DNA, but also Will Smith, REM, Tupac, Jars of Clay, Destiny’s Child, Lil Kim and Ludacris. Suzanne herself has collaborated with a diverse group of artists from Leonard Cohen to Danger Mouse. She also writes regularly for the New York Times.

With the release of Suzanne Vega Close-Up, Vol 1, Love Songs, listeners have chance to hear her famously “plaintive but disarmingly powerful” voice on brand new acoustic versions of her classic love songs.

John, Shelly & the Creatures and are made up of band members: Kevin Carlisle (Drums, percussion & vox), Philip Watts d’Alton (guitar, vox, keys, bass, mandolin), Ger Gormley (bass, guitar, mandolin, vox) and Walter (guitar, vox, keys, programming and drums). They are influenced by a wide variety of genres and are unafraid to mix things up when it comes to recording and playing live. ‘With a dazzling array of instruments and songwriting that has been fine-tuned to a striking degree, the foursome’s laidback sound, coupled with gritty lyrics, recalls The Lemonheads’ (Irish Times) and fellow Northern band Snow Patrol. ‘Rather than Knock you off your seat with rambunctious riffs or profound ideas, this band are just effortlessly monumental’ and maintain a sense of intrigue whilst being immediately powerful and engaging. The stunning graceful and tender effort – LONG MAY YOU REIGN- reads like a summers day smile, whilst their debut album DINOSAUR, is a whole actors handbook of facial expressions (AU Magazine). The band play in select venues and at various festivals throughout the Summer of 2010. Their single ‘LONG MAY YOU REIGN’, received (and still receives) critical acclaim. It also featured in The Northern Irish Tourist Board TV, Radio and Cinema Advert. They also performed the song live, to over 20,000 spectators in the RDS arena. Which was a high moment for the band in their short career to date.

ED HARCOURT

ED HARCOURT releases his fifth full studio album LUSTRE on Piano Wolf on June 14th.

LINK: www.edharcourt.com

His first for four years, it’s a dazzling statement of intent and rejuvenation from a singer/songwriter/musician who hasn’t always received the acclaim his gifts deserve. Now a proud father and a much-in-demand writer/producer, he’s delivered a set of songs about birth, love, light and darkness which glistens with genius.

The album was recorded at Bear Creek Studio, just north of Seattle, with co-producer Ryan Hadlock (Blonde Redhead, The Gossip) and mastered by Gavin Lurssen (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) “If my last album was weighed-down, this one is a buoy,” remarks Ed. “It floats. It’s about that gleaming quality – the vitality, the passion – that drives you to keep going and not give up. It poured out of me. I’ve always been ready, but now it’s like nothing I’ve ever felt.”

From the opening euphoria of “Lustre” to the lupine howl of “Heart Of A Wolf”, from the sunny yet subversive Beach Boys pop of “Do As I Say Not As I Do” to the beautiful truths of “Fears Of A Father”, this feels like the finest Ed Harcourt album yet.

Between 2001 and 2006 he released Here Be Monsters (Mercury-nominated), From Every Sphere, Strangers and The Beautiful Lie. Having now parted ways with Heavenly/EMI, worked with many of the biggest and best names in music (from Patti Smith to Mark Linkous, from Paloma Faith to Tom Jones), and started his own studio (Werewolf) and his own label (Piano Wolf), he’s “in a good place, confident and in control.” The first single from the album will be ‘Do As I Say, Not As I Do’.

DELAYS:

Delays release their fourth album ‘Star Tiger, Star Ariel’ on 21st June 2010, through Lookout Mountain Records, preceded by the debut single ‘Unsung’ on 14th June.

LINKS: www.thedelays.co.uk / www.myspace.com/delays

British indie rock band Delays debut album ‘Faded Seaside Glamour’ was released on Rough Trade Records in 2004, and became one of the most critically acclaimed records of that year. “First band in a decade to lay serious claim to the Stone Roses throne” (The Guardian), “Heavenly pop glory” (Q). Second album ‘You See Colours’ came out in 2006, and saw Delays firmly established on the British music scene. “Shimmering pop perfection” (Q), “Delays soar above.” (NME),You won’t hear a better album all year” (The Sun). ‘Everything’s The Rush’, released through Fiction Records in 2008, took the bands sound in a grander, more cinematic direction, uniting them with legendary producer Youth. Although critically acclaimed – “Pop song mastery uniquely honed to perfection” (The Fly), “This album dazzles with wide-eyed wonder” (NME), “Glistening Pop” (Q)

Determined to strip their sound back, the band found inspiration in their hometown of Southampton and it’s melancholic history. Written as a soundtrack to late night drives through the New Forest and sunrise at the docks, ‘Star Tiger Star Ariel’ truly reflects the bands depth, ambition and integrity.

Brothers Greg and Aaron Gilbert, alongside Colin Fox on bass guitar and Rowly on drums, recorded the album at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth (Queen, Stone Roses) with Duncan Lewis who produced their first hit album. Greg says “The first album sounded like the sun, the second album like a club, ‘Everything’s The Rush’ was a festival, but this album sounds like roots beneath the city shaking the buildings at night. This record is about being lost, and the dream of being found. It is our most personal record, and, more than anything, is a soundscape for our home.”

Delays have sold in excess 300,000 albums worldwide

GROOVE ARMADA

New AA-Side Single Out April 26th
On ‘Work It’ Recordings In Partnership With Cooking Vinyl
www.groovearmada.com
Plus Major Festival Dates Announced
-V, Oxygen, T in the park, The Great Escape -

Groove Armada – Andy Cato and Tom Findlay – release a wicked double-punch AA-side single ‘Look Me In The Eye Sister/Just For Tonight’ on April 26th. Both tracks are taken from their fifth studio album ‘Black Light’, which is widely considered among their best work to date (“
SHOULD FILL EVERY DANCE FLOOR ON THE PLANET” ***** THE SUN, “A REVELATION” **** UNCUT, “A BOLD STEP FORWARD” **** Q, “THEIR BEST ALBUM” **** SUNDAY TIMES).

Both written and produced by Andy Cato and Tom Findlay, ‘Look Me In The Eye Sister’ is a spiky, beefed-up slab of Yeah Yeah Yeahs-style electro-rock while ‘Just For Tonight’ is the album’s gorgeous mellow gem. “We’ve decided to go for a double A-side, as much as those things exist in the digital world,” says Andy. “We’re being a bit contrary there because apparently ‘History’ is currently the most downloaded individual track.”

Both feature guest vocals from Jess Larrabee of Brooklyn folk/blues duo She Keeps Bees, whom Groove Armada have yet to meet. “We got really into her albums and started emailing tracks for her to add vocals,” says Andy. “Her music usually has more of a White Stripes kind of vibe. She got really into the disco flavour and absolutely nailed it.”

The release – available to buy digitally – also includes remixes of ‘Look Me In The Eye Sister’ by Urchins, Audiojack and Morten Sorensen.

The track listings for the two digital  singles are:

BRENDAN PERRY

New album ‘ARK’ – 4th June

Babylon ~ The Bogus Man ~ Wintersun ~ Utopia ~ Inferno ~ This Boy ~ The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea ~ Crescent

Brendan Perry releases his second solo album, ‘Ark’, on Friday 4th June. As one half of Dead Can Dance for nearly three decades, Brendan’s music has been heard by fans around the world and Dead Can Dance remain the biggest selling artists to ever grace 4AD.

Recorded in his own studio in Ireland, ‘Ark’ is a truly solo album, Brendan playing every instrument, writing all the lyrics and being the sole creative force across the eight tracks. All of the instrumentation on ‘Ark’ is derived from samples and synthesisers and, in its creators own words, is predicated on a theory of creating a neutral electronic soundscape which would in turn mirror a world that is becoming increasingly more dependent upon machines to perform tasks for us’. In its range of influences, the album encompasses music from all four corners of the globe to create a global soundtrack for global themes.

Whilst ‘Ark’ is not a concept album in the original sense of the term, it combines themes which run throughout its eight tracks. The lyrics of opener ‘Babylon’ focus on the current conflicts within the Middle East and combine with ‘The Bogus Man’ and ‘This Boy’ to put a human face on those charged with waging war on behalf of politicians. Concurrently with the investigations of conflict and political corruption are considerations of the detrimental effects of human behavior on the natural world and the alienation caused by an increasingly machine driven world.

Whilst such dystopian themes could be seen to make for a very bleak experience, ‘Ark’ is shot through with an emotional warmth and a belief in the redemptive power of humanity from which the album title is derived, ‘Ark’ being not just the refuge of the world but a starting point for a better society and a more organic way of life. To accompany ‘Ark’, Brendan will play selected shows in the UK & Ireland, details to follow soon.

DAPPLED CITIES

“THE PRICE” Single Out 18th June

NEW ALBUM “ZOUNDS” OUT August 20th

Link: www.dappledcities.com

In their home country of Australia DAPPLED CITIES are almost a household name….. almost.  And these fine purveyors of Antipodean art-rock are calling the UK home for now as they prepare for the release of their debut UK single ‘The Price’’ on June 18th (through Dangerbird Records / Essential Music and Marketing). The band will follow the single with the release of their critically acclaimed ‘Zounds’ album on August 20th. And if the wire telegraph from down-under is anything to go by, these UK releases will excite fans of everyone from the ‘Flaming Lips to Sesame St’.

Hailing from Sydney, where they formed as 15-year old school friends, DAPPLED CITIES have spent the better part of last year living in New York and touring the US where their label Dangerbird Records (Silversun Pickups, Minus The Bear) released the ‘Zounds’ album to critical acclaim late last year. However it’s in their home territory that the buzz on this band has really established their credentials.  ‘Zounds’ secured DAPPLED CITIES their first Top 40 Chart debut, an ARIA nomination for Independent Album Of The Year, and AIR Award nominations for Album and Artist Of The Year.

Between touring with LCD Soundsystem, Fratellis & Modest Mouse DAPPLED CITIES also managed to film a 26 part children’s TV series for Disney called ‘Alphabreaks’ which is currently screening in 22 countries worldwide. It’s also a little known fact that both Wolfmother and Temper Trap cut their teeth touring with DAPPLED CITIES way back when…………a long way from their current ‘cosy’ shared accommodation in Islington.

‘Zounds’ and first single, ‘The Price’, were produced by Chris Coady (TV On The Radio) and the band worked closely on their dramatic, cinematic arrangements with Justin Meldal-Johnson (NIN, Beck), and the band are thrilled to be introducing themselves to Europe for the first time. To celebrate their release DAPPLED CITIES have been playing a series of intimate club dates in London, and have a few more shows remaining this month including The Great Escape and Liverpool Sound City conferences.

SANDI THOM

ALBUM: ‘MERCHANTS & THIEVES’ (Guardian Angels Records) MAY 17TH Single: This Ol’ World, feat: Joe Bonamassa is out April 18th APRIL

LINKS: WWW.MYSPACE.COM/SANDITHOM

“As striking a musical reinvention as you’re likely to witness this year.” -News Of The World

The real Sandi Thom has stepped forward, and surely no one has ever been quite so happy to get the blues. On May 17th, a new Sandi emerges with ‘Merchants and Thieves,’ an album that brilliantly reflects how she’s opened up a whole new channel for her creativity. Retaining her innate feeling for a powerful melody and a trenchant lyric, the record adds the new blues sensibility that visitors to her famously powerful gigs have sensed for themselves in recent months. At Celtic Connections in Glasgow in January, for instance, devotees and newcomers watched in shared amazement as Sandi took lead guitar for the first time on the album’s excellent, early Fleetwood Mac-inspired ‘Gold Dust’ and then led the band through Led Zeppelin’s ‘When The Levee Breaks.’

IRISH tour dates 2010: May 16th-The Pavilion- Cork/ May 17th-Whelans- Dublin/ May  20th – Spring & Airbrake – Belfast

THE FRANK AND WALTERS- RETURN

Release new Single ‘THE PARSON’ (FIFA RECORDS) On April 23rd 2010 THE QUEEN IS DEAD – LONG LIVE THE PARSON!

Link: www.myspace.com/thefrankandwalters

The Frank & Walters will prove, yet again, that they continue to swing the mightiest of pop hooks. The single is part one in a series of four singles the Franks will release to coincide with the unfolding of the Seasons. The Parson is joyous and uplifting, close your eyes and you can almost smell the blossom and feel the cool breeze of Spring on your cheeks. A new decade and a new beginning, but with enough of what went before to remain familiar. Like a long lost friend finally returned from the madness that engulfed our idyllic little world. Perfect harmony. But why does The Parson feel the need to lock his bicycle? And what of Uncle Matthews roaming eye? Surely nothing sinister could possibly invade these villages and fields? All shall be reveled on April 23rd.

Bio info: The Frank and Walters are one of the most recognizable alternative rock bands hailing from Cork, Ireland in the past 2 decades. The band: Paul Linehan (Lead vocal & bass), Ashley Keating- (Drums) & Kevin Pedreschi (lead Guitar) took the band name in honour of two eccentric Cork characters. Two decades on from the release of their very first record, and the Franks continue to defy expectations. With Indie hits such as ‘Fashion Crisis Hits New York’ & ‘After All’ (which reached the top twenty in the UK Singles Chart, where it peaked at #11. The group also appeared on Top of the Pops in support of the single; it went as high as #5 in the Irish charts). Their music today is as relevant as any of the new pretenders on the block and only a handful of bands anywhere in the world can lay claim to such longevity of popularity. Each year, the Frank and Walters perform sell out venues across the UK, Europe, and the US and their records, both new and classic, continue to sell across the world.

GAVIN GLASS

Releases his new Album ‘MYNA BIRDS’ on May 28th

Single ‘Just Like Rome’ out on the 23rd April includes bonus b-Side- ‘Ooh La la’ as featured in the METEOR TV Advert.

Link: www.myspace.com/gavinglass

Described as ‘quite a triumph’ (Sunday tribune), the ‘impressively plaintive’ (METRO) and ambitious acclaimed Dubliner Gavin Glass is set to release album number three. ‘Myna Birds, has it’s roots planted firmly in the dusty soil of alt country, while maintaining his unique signature blend of Irish Rock & Americana that would ‘do the transatlantic neighbours proud ‘(Irish Times). HOTPRESS describe Glass’ music as- “truly breath-taking”.

‘Just Like Rome’ is the first single to be taken from the album and comes flip-sided with Gavin’s version of The Faces classic ‘Ooh La La’, which was recently used in the long-running Meteor television ad campaign. This is the follow up to his 2007 release “Gavin Glass & the Holy Shakers”. A record that had an unashamed old-school feel to it and was contrary to the angular indie music that was currently flavour of the month. Yet again, in his present offering, Glass remains true to his focus and once again firmly stands by his strong musical assets. He is not about reinventing the wheel, more so about classic songwriting & honest and real songs driven primarily by guitar, piano, bass and drums, and augmented by a gloriously uplifting brass section. Having toured the album on and off for a year around Ireland, Gavin was asked to contribute to Lisa Hannigan’s Mercury Nominated album “Sea-Sew”. This later evolved into putting his solo-career on hiatus and joining Lisa’s band as a multi-instrumentalist and spending the next two years touring North America, The UK & Ireland.

OCEAN COLOUR SCENE: RELEASE NEW ALBUM SATURDAY & play The Olympia Dublin on Sat March 6th.

Link To Buy: ITUNES

ARTIST LINK: www.oceancolourscene.com

OCS, who will be celebrating their 21st anniversary next year, have clocked up an impressive eleven Top 20 singles and five Top 10 albums during their illustrious career. Saturday, their ninth studio album, was recorded over six weeks last summer at the iconic Rockfield studios in South Wales with producer Gavin Monaghan (Editors/ the Twang), and finds them as vibrantly tuneful as they’ve ever been.

From the opening bars of  psych-folk opener ‘100 Floors Of Perception’ – written by Simon about the on-going financial crisis – to epic climax ‘Rockfield’  (think ‘Baba O’Riley’ meets ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’), it’s a reminder than when it comes to delivering  classic rock hooks there is simply no one better.  Denim-driven boogie ‘Old Pair Of Jeans’ (written by Bennett) will delight those hankering for the full-tilt mod-pop of ‘For Dancers Only’, while Harry Kidnap’ (written in tribute to John Weller) boasts shades of North Atlantic Drift stand-out ‘Make The Deal’.   The single, ‘Magic Carpet Days’, meanwhile (key lyric: “The world won’t shake you/Knock you down and break you/I’ll steer you through these magic carpet days”) is a reminder that their belief in the Mod aesthetic of self-improvement remains as strong as ever.

Tom McRae released his new album ‘Alphabet of Hurricanes’ in Ireland on Cooking Vinyl on 19th February. Now Available on CD and as a download, the lead single ‘Please’ is already echoing on various radio stations. ‘Alphabet of Hurricanes’, McRae’s first album for Cooking Vinyl, was written over a two year period during which he toured extensively across Europe, North America and the Far East.“Touring lost me my sense of home,” Tom explains. “Traveling constantly kept my feet itchy – being in motion is the best way to feel alive without actually engaging. I loved it.” “After a while I just ran out of steam. I wound up in New York and started writing songs, trying to make sense of the last few years. Somehow I had to reconcile the self-destructive side of my nature and the desire to constantly smash things up with the need to feel settled in order to have a better grasp on song-writing and recording. If everything feels breathlessly exciting all the time it’s probably time to take a break from touring.”
