The new single KISS MY BLUES AWAY is certainly a vast testament to Colm’s musical ability. Radio stations such as TODAY FM, F104, iRadio, RTE Radio1, 98FM and more have recently invited Colm in to celebrate his new single and to show their support. Remaining true to his philosophy that ‘a good song should have a strong melody and meaningful lyrics’, this critically acclaimed artist is eager to impress with his latest offering.

Ocean Colour Scene play The Olympia in Dublin this Saturday March 6th, celebrating their latest album SATURDAY and current single ‘Magic Carpet Days’

Birmingham’s emperors of rock’n’folk Ocean Colour Scene are back with their ninth studio album, entitled Saturday (COOKCD511).

In the two years since 2007’s On The Leyline – described by Uncut as their “career best” – they’ve played with thrash metal bands in Korea, stolen the show at this year’s ‘V’ (where they were named ‘Band Of The Festival’ by Radio 2 and Absolute Radio) and later this month will jet off for a debut show in Dubai.

From the opening bars of psych-folk opener ‘100 Floors Of Perception’ – written by Simon about the on-going financial crisis – to epic climax ‘Rockfield’ (think ‘Baba O’Riley’ meets ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’), it’s a reminder than when it comes to delivering classic rock hooks there is simply no one better. Denim-driven boogie ‘Old Pair Of Jeans’ (written by Bennett) will delight those hankering for the full-tilt mod-pop of ‘For Dancers Only’, while Harry Kidnap’ (written in tribute to John Weller) boasts shades of North Atlantic Drift stand-out ‘Make The Deal’.

Lyrical themes ranging from Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist (‘Mrs Maylie’) to the British way of life ( standout ‘Village Life’), meanwhile, are a reminder of Simon’s acute observational eye.

Musically, it’s just as impressive. Listen close and you’ll hear echoes of everyone from Simon & Garfunkel to Mott The Hoople and Vivaldi in these loose-limbed grooves, not to mention trippy string sections, sky-scraping ‘Great Gig In The Sky’ backing vocals, punk riffs and even the occasional burst of mandolin.

Surefire smash ‘Magic Carpet Days’, meanwhile (key lyric: “The world won’t shake you/Knock you down and break you/I’ll steer you through these magic carpet days”) is a reminder that their belief in the Mod aesthetic of self-improvement remains as strong as ever.

With a full U.K tour booked for early next year, OCS will be celebrating in style. But before then…and

In the meantime, they’ll see you in Ireland in The Olympia on Saturday.

These Northerners arrive relatively unheralded and unhyped, which is a good thing. Unlike the other Northern Irish band of the moment (Two Door Cinema Club) John, Shelly + the Creatures let the music talk, and the result is more conversational and casual than in your face. The fact is that songs such as Cold War, Sunny Side Street, Sight of Your Chest, Killer, Frost and Long May You Reign do what really good songs should: sneak up on you, twist preconceptions, change your mind and then take it over. The range of instruments in use, including flugelhorn, mandolin, cello, viola, violin, glockenspiel and xylophone, indicates not so much an everything-and-the-kitchen-sink approach (which would usually be the case) but an exceptional grasp of texture, tone and theme. A shoe-in for next year’s Choice Music Prize nominations list? See www.johnshellyandthecreatures.com TONY CLAYTON-LEA

Progression, the right way.

Hello everyone, so here we are in Paris, things have been moving swiftly since we arrived in January. We’ve been meeting up and jamming with some cool musicians, getting to know some creative people, having meetings with some interesting folk. Also we were lucky to be invited to the Irish Embassy in Paris for lunch last week and got to meet the Ambassador.Other news….just yesterday we signed off on a new worldwide management agreement. We are in the throes of recording a new album- but before that we will release our new EP titled STAR – which has a brand new song and some re-recorded & reproduced tracks from our debut album that is showing of a new direction in our music. Not to say that we are forgetful of our origins, in the new record (yet to be titled) we will still have our signature lo-fi numbers also. We can’t wait to work with some top producers on the new record.

Our new management is with INNATE MUSIC (Jamie Cullum, Dame Shirley Bassey, Universal Records) and GSPR and is one career choice that we fully embrace and are so excited to be a part of. The months ahead will see us travel a lot between territories: UK, France, Germany, Japan & Ireland. We are going in to record 2 new music videos next month and are very excited about that too as we are working with Top class directors.

We will be in London next week for some gigs and to meet up with some new members of the team and then will be back in Ireland in early March for some styling & re-stocking of cd’s. May will see us touring in Ireland, Northern Ireland, the UK and France. New Booking details will be available online soon with the dates to follow. So please make sure you’re on our mailing list!

*Colm will perform in the RDS at the Leinster V Scarlets Rugby game to over 20,000 people on Feb 20th 2010*

Colm has been Described as “…Singer songwriting savior…” by The Irish Times

The release of the critically acclaimed first album put his vocal and songwriting skills on show to the nation for the first time. It received glowing plaudits from the likes of Dave Fanning, Hotpress, The Irish Times, In Dublin and a host of other people and publications. It was Album of the Week on Larry Gogan’s 2FM Radio show. Singles released from the album got extensive airplay on national and local radio. He also won the Balcony TV Best Male Award in 2007.

His current album, being his second studio album titled: Tickety-Boo, is picking up where he left off. While more polished, it still possesses the same characteristics that made his debut such a winner. Whether in a mellow mood or just plain aggressive, the music always comes from the heart. This is plain to see when witnessed in live performances. TICKETY BOO- is now available Nationwide and on iTunes. Remaining true to his philosophy that ‘a good song should have a strong melody and meaningful lyrics’, the ten track album features hit singles “It’s Coming Down” (previously playlisted on TODAY FM and 2FM) and the RTE playlisted “If I was In Your Shoes”.

Anyone expecting to see a singer-songwriter soulfully whispering into a microphone should think again. This will be a fevered, rock n’ roll affair! After all, there are only two schools of thought on Colm Lynch’s music: those who are confirmed fans and those who haven’t heard him yet!

Whether playing to hundreds of people in venues like Vicar St. Dublin or to a tiny audience somewhere off the beaten track, Lynch always delivers a memorable performance. Resting easy among his musical peers, Lynch has supported acts as diverse as The Blizzards, Julie Feeney, Kate Walsh, Aslan, John Power, Foy Vance and Mundy.

Starting 2010 off in style, Colm Lynch and his 8 piece band gathered in Studio 7 RTE Radio 1 two weeks ago, after being invited in by legendary DJ and TV host Pat Kenny. Performing the new single Kiss my Blues Away and If I was in Your Shoes, Colm and his band gave the performance of their lifetime and quite possibly one of the best Radio performances of the year.

“The video is 35 mins long – you can minimise and listen if that’s easier. It was, genuinely one of the most interesting and candid interviews I’ve had the pleasure to do, and it’s Eleanor’s only media engagement before her trip to Australia”.- Darragh Doyle

New album: Tickety Boo

One thing is for certain, Colm Lynch & his eight piece band know how to perform- and on this album the singer songwriter is anxious to impress. Whether it is by singing his heart out or banging the hell out his guitar, he has set his goals on achieving something rather significant. But has he done it?

YES, and why, because he took his time, he learned his trade, he gigged and gigged and gigged and found out what people want out of a li ve performance and condensed it into an album. Three years after the release of his debut record, A Whisper in a Riot, Tickety Boo is telling of the singers personal progression and is an album that deserves not to be ignored, and one that simply demands your attention.

I actually do not think this man knows how to do things half ways, as he has a straight up- ‘what you see is what you get’ kind of persona. He is in it for t he music and nothing else. This much is obvious in his live shows. You wont find Colm at the opening of every envelope, but given the chance to rock an event, he’ll be there with guitar in hand and with his enormous eight piece extravagantly brilliant roots band (banjo, fiddle, sax, lead guitar, harmonica, strings, drums… the list goes on…). All this in the mix, proves a cocktail for a great night out or a great listen on speakers. Lynch’s voice is all ‘throat and gravel’ and on this record he is definitely pushing every bit of himself to the limit. Sounding at times like he has sang through the night and indulged in a bottle of whiskey and about 80 ciggies….But it’s ok, cause for this man it just works.

It would be very easy for me to draw easy stylistic comparisons with anyone from Springstein, Dylan and Steve Earl, but one must remember that this man is in his twenties and is Irish, not a child of the American rock-folk movement of the 60’s. It’s all there – the passion, the sound and the performance, but the songs themselves do take a few listens to nuzzle into the epicentre of what the man, the singer is trying to achieve, give it a few listens, it demands it. And when it all clicks in, trust me you will be checking the online tour dates.

The band’s intention from the start was to play a collection of pop songs as loud and as forcibly as possible by a power trio. The group’s collective experience shows in the tightness of their performance, with all three members knowing exactly what they want to create: a hard-hitting rock band, with catchy, feel-good melodies reminiscent of the Kinks, underlined by driving bass lines and a heavy, no-nonsense, drumbeat. Their energetic live shows are driven by the powerhouse rhythm section and overlaid with unique melodies and imaginative harmonies. May you eat too much turkey and mince pies and reside nested by the warmth of a glowing fire over the Christmas of 2009.

Not to forget singing for Pat Kenny before his final days on the Late Late TV Show on RTE with Pete Doherty on the same night. Nell went on to sign a publishing deal and a record deal with Cooking Vinyl in the UK and went onwards to become the only independent artist (at the time) to get BBC Radio 2 Album of the week and A playlisted in the UK. ‘Eleanor McEvoy‘ released ‘Singled OUT’ her compilation album of all her Independently released singles. And that was received with much acclaim, not that we would expect anything less from Eleanor. She popped in to Ian Dempsey in Today FM to play some tracks from the album and also in to Pat Kenny in RTE Radio 1 and up to the lovely folk in BBC, Downtown Radio, U105 and regional radio around Ireland. A huge thanks to all in press who supported Eleanor’s album by offering their reviews and features.

Other great music releases of note where by ‘HITMAN LORD’ who’s musical offerings are a sign of great things to come in the new year, ’Emmet Scanlan & What The Good Thought’, ‘Eoghan Colgan’, FIACH (RTE Playlisted on his debut single YOU DEAR and with follow up album ‘SO I’ scheduled for release in 2010- the sky is the limit), COLM LYNCH (RTE Playlisted and album TICKETY Boo scheduled for re-release next year), and ‘The River Valley Band’,whose debut single Kimberly soared the charts in at no. 21 in its first week- they went on to perform for 20,000 spectators at the interval of the Leinster rugby match. That was EPIC. ‘Carosel’ released their single Easy As It Flows for free download exclusively from their website and received over 1000 downloads in the first week. They were then invited into RTE Studios by Pat Kenny to perform it live. They then headed back into studio to record their ep STAR which will be released next year. They are currently in France touring.

Then got playlisted on FM104, iRadio and more stations and across radio in Ireland. Played to over 800 people in their hometown on the release of their single PS YOU’RE Crazy and where offered a Publishing Deal. They mellowed out the year by being nominated for an IMTV Best Newcomer Video Award too and settled back into the studio with Manic Street preacher and Supergrass producer Greg Haver to record and finish their debut studio album, set for release next year. MUGGER DAVE were hailed as One of Ireland’s most promising Act’s! by THE IRISH TIMES. Their album Lucky Caller No.9 also was hailed as one of the ‘Top five Irish albums of this year’ in the 96FM listener poll. WAYNE BRENNAN released his album In My Hands and performed his music across almost every radio station in this country and received playlisting across the spectrum of Irish radio far and wide. He was also Interviewed on TV3’s Ireland AM, was awarded RTE1 playlisting on his single MAKE YOU SMILE and The Irish Times wrote- “ Unquestionably, Brennan is a first- timer with an original voice – and something to say”. He finished up the year singing a Licensing deal in the US.
