The one-minute spot is a celebratory romp through several decades of great times in America that begins with the end of Prohibition in 1933.

Written by The Cult’s vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, “She Sells Sanctuary” reached #15 on the UK charts and was a Top 40 dance hit in the U.S. In a review, one journalist wrote, “Duffy’s liquid, quasi-psychedelic guitar intro over a buzz of flanged feedback suddenly rips into a triumphant, driving lead melody that’s jaw dropping.”

Choice of Weapon, The Cult’s first new studio album in five years, will be released on May 22 (Cooking Vinyl), and the band – Astbury, Duffy, drummer John Tempesta, and bassist Chris Wyse – will tour extensively in support of it.

2012 World Tour Details Coming Soon

One of the finest British rock acts to have enjoyed worldwide success over the last few decades, The Cult has wrapped up recording ‘Choice of Weapon’, the group’s first studio album in five years. Released on 21st May 2012 in UK (and May 18th in Ireland) on their new UK label Cooking Vinyl, its 10 tracks reveal the band at its rawest and most visceral, encapsulating cinematic visions and themes of love, revolt, and redemption. Fans can get an early taster of the album from 2pm on Tuesday 31st January when the track ‘Lucifer’ will be available as a free download through the band’s website www.thecult.us. Details are being confirmed for a worldwide tour and will be announced soon.

‘Choice of Weapon’ is the follow up to the critically-acclaimed 2007 release ‘Born Into This’ that the UK’s Mojo magazine called “a wholehearted, utopian and irrefutably exciting record.” Long-time Cult collaborator and producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Bush) – who produced one of The Cult’s most successful albums, the platinum-certified ‘Sonic Temple’ – put the finishing touches on the foundations that were laid by co-producer Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, U.N.K.L.E., Masters of Reality).

The record was written by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy, recorded in New York City, Los Angeles, the California high desert, and the band’s Witch Mountain studios in the Hollywood Hills between July and December 2011. The new release features founding members Astbury on vocals and Duffy on guitars, with drummer John Tempesta and bassist Chris Wyse. “We have had the opportunity to work with two of the most influential and talented producers in the world today,” said Astbury. “They pushed us beyond our comfort zone, and helped us craft ‘Choice of Weapon.’”

The album is aimed at the heart of The Cult’s loyal following. It reflects the current discontent and destruction of our eco systems, the search for individual meaning against a tide of rampant materialism, narcissism and disconnected lives. “We went deeper . . . we worked a bit harder on this record. We have great fans and they deserve our best,” added Duffy, “and I feel this is one of our best records, maybe the best.”

The album is released as a special edition fan pack on May 14th, followed by digital and double vinyl on May 21st (May 18th in Ireland) and the CD and deluxe CD’s on June 4th (June 1st in Ireland) .

The tracklisting is as follows:

Honey from a Knife / Elemental Light / The Wolf / Life > Death / For The Animals

Amnesia / Wilderness Now / Lucifer / A Pale Horse / This Night In The City Forever

A Message from The Rev…

So we’ve been away for a minute. Well more than a minute. Truth be said I fancied a bit of time out the bear-pit for half an hour to get myself a bit of a holiday, and well, calm the fuck down n enjoy myself a bit. Not that I sat completely on my arse for the best part of two years. Errrr…. (I’ve kind of forgot what you’re supposed to talk about in a post even though I decided to write one!!!)

I’ve been a few mad places in Asia, Africa and South America, which was unbelievable. I bought some daft instruments while I was away too, none of which I can play but they look right good in my house. I did a bit more with Afrika Express. If you don’t know what it is then check it out at www.africaexpress.co.uk. It’s a thing Damon Albarn set up and it’s fuckin’ amazing. I did a little gig with Mick Jones from The Clash at The Leadmill and I got up and sang ‘Bankrobber’ with him, which was a proper buzz. Mostly though, I had a sound system with my mates Jimmy Welsh and Matic Mouth which was mega. We threw house parties and warehouse parties, and generally got daft doing parties for nish, until we got a bit too daft and the police started turning up to every do we had, so we knocked that on the head and I decided I might fancy getting back to the day job…

I just kind of fell into writing this album by accident and the next thing was it was nearly finished. I’m bang into it, which you’ll all expect me to say. But I enjoyed making it more than any album I’ve made so far. It’s all up and mainly bangers, so we had a right old laugh in the process. Special thanks go to Ed the Pilot and Jimmy and his Onkens. The album is being produced by a combination of Jason Cox and James Dring (Gorrrilaz, Good the Bad & the Queen) and Youth (The Verve, U2), and for what it’s worth there’s no politics on the album. Why not? Well as much as I’m into all that and I still believe much the same, I’ve said it now and it quickly becomes boring if you labor the point too much. In truth I sort of bored myself with it. I’ve taken down the Che Guevara poster for this album; you may or may not be glad to know. So we have some new band members who have joined as well. Ryan Jenkinson on drums who used to play with a band I used to be into called This Girl. On bass we have borrowed Joe Carnall from the Book Club. Check them out they are ace (www.facebook.com/pages/Joe-Carnall-The-Book-Club). Joe was the singer in Milburn, who were the band that kinda kicked off the Sheffield thing a few years ago, so I’m made up to have them both play with us.

The album’s out before the summer and will be preceded by a tour supporting Noel Gallagher on his arena dates around the UK. We are well looking forward to it, and hope we’ll see you there. If not I hope you might catch us on our own headline tour later in the year…

In a closely run battle, we can now reveal that The Prodigy have emerged victorious, pipping robotic legends, Daft Punk, into second place by a very tight margin.

The band; Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and Maxim Reality beat off competition from French duo Daft Punk.

Keith Flint of The Prodigy commented: “To walk off a stage and feel like we smashed it – that’s the reward for us, to see the crowd react and know we’ve done what we’ve come to do. But something like this is truly voted for by the people – and essentially we are nothing without them, so it feels awesome and really respectful.”

Mixmag offered their congratulations to The Prodigy, ‘an act who have managed to stay as exciting as ever, over two decades on from their first gig’.

The full results are published in the latest issue of Mixmag, on sale today (Thursday January 19) with comment from all the acts in the top 20. You can grab an iPad/iPhone version here

Speaking of the win, Flint said:”Mixmag is the magazine. It’s what everyone looks to. It’s been around ever since we’ve been around, too, so it must be doing something right.”

Reality said: “People like to see a performance that ignites the crowd. We stay true to that and I think they respect it.”

While, Mixmag editor Nick DeCosemo added: “The response to the poll exceeded our wildest expectations and The Prodigy’s victory is a wonderful tribute to the passion that they generate in dance music fans everywhere… and the amazing way they have managed to stay just as exciting as ever, over two decades since their first gig.

“The Prodigy have been around almost as long as Mixmag and hopefully we are both still at the top of our respective game.”

Meanwhile, The Prodigy are set to debut new tracks from their as-yet-untitled sixth album when they headline Download Festival later this year.

A Plastic Rose are delighted to announce that they will be supporting Snow Patrol on two of their upcoming Tour Dates in Belfast & London.

The band issued this statement :

“We’re delighted to announce that Snow Patrol have asked us to support them in 2 arena’s on their forthcoming tour, Belfast’s Odyssey Arena Wed Jan 25th and London’s O2 Arena Sat Feb 11th. As you can imagine we’re over the moon and really hope that there’s some APR fans in the crowd screaming us on.

APR x”

Tickets can be bought here.

A Plastic Rose deliver their “nu-wave-disco-grunge-old-skool-emo” with a passion and intensity forged by their apprenticeship of gigging anytime, anywhere, with and to anyone, a philosophy that has led to them sharing stages with acts as diverse as Frank Turner, Explosions In The Sky, Fightstar, And So I Watch You From Afar and Fighting With Wire, picking up fans in Charlie Simpson (Fightstar – “Irelands best up and coming band at the moment”) and Gary Lightbody (giving them a mention in his list of N.Irish bands to look for) establishing a growing core support across Ireland with on-going touring and being recognised as one of the coming forces in music.

Now signed to DiDiMau Records, and fuelled by addictions to videogames, celebrities and functional sculpture, APR are poised to take on the world even if it’s not ready. Mid March is the planned release date of the 1st single from their debut album through label Di Di Mau and Third Bar. The song is the album opener ‘Build From The Ground Up’ and will only be available to buy as a very limited CD. The album title will be announced very soon.

The National Concert Hall have announced the official unveiling of a portrait of Eleanor McEvoy by the acclaimed Irish artist ‘Robert Ballagh’ in the John Field Room in The National Concert Hall, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2 on Friday January 20 2012 at 5.30 pm.

Robert ‘Bobby’ Ballagh is particularly well known for his hyperealistic renderings of well-known Irish literary, historical or establishment figures. His painting style was strongly influenced by pop art. Among the theatre sets he has designed are sets for Riverdance, I’ll Go On, Gate Theatre (1985), Samuel Beckett’s Endgame (1991) and Oscar Wilde’s Salomé (1998). He has also designed over 70 Irish postage stamps and the last series of Irish banknotes, “Series C”, before the introduction of the euro. He is a member of Aosdána. Ballagh’s paintings are held in several public collections of Irish painting including the National Gallery of Ireland, the Hugh Lane Gallery, the Ulster Museum, Trinity College Dublin, and Nuremberg’s Albrecht Durer House. One of his latest pieces is a privately commissioned portrait of a woman and artist whom Ballagh has the utmost respect for: Eleanor McEvoy.

Eleanor McEvoy’s music has evolved and developed over her career maintaining a serene confident statement that she is the master of her craft. As a globally acclaimed and much celebrated songwriter and composer, her music has been used in US, International and Irish TV and film. She also is one of a very limited amount of Irish Artists to get into the US Top 10 Billboard Charts (Precious Little). She also wrote the winsome ‘Only A Woman’s Heart’, which appeared on the massively popular album “A Woman’s Heart”. Eleanor also performed with the National Symphony Orchestra as a violinist for 4 years and is delighted that The NCH will be holding the Portrait on view in the John Field room for the next few years.

“The National Concert Hall is the ideal home for a portrait by one of Ireland’s finest painters of one of our leading musicians. We are delighted that our walls can be graced by a work by Robert Ballagh, just as Eleanor McEvoy has graced our stage”- N.C.H CEO Simon Taylor

Plus more acts to be announced

The Prodigy are proud to present the next instalment of their ‘Warrior’s Dance Festival’ at Kalemegdan Fortess in Belgrade on September 15th 2012.

Following the success of the inaugural event at Makuhari Messe, Tokyo, back in 2009 to the dizzy heights and rave reviews of 2010’s 65,000 capacity extravaganza at Milton Keynes Bowl, UK, the foundations have firmly been set to take the experience to Eastern Europe and to raise the bar once more for the Serbian people.

Serbia and The Prodigy have a special longstanding relationship which began with the band’s first performance in 1995 to a sold out hungry crowd, creating a story that goes down in urban myth where they were granted the key to the city of Belgrade (which they soon lost!). Invited to play at Serbia’s Exit festival’s 10th anniversary voted for by the Serbian public, 2012 sees the band curate and perform at Warrior’s Dance Festival in Belgrade.

The event will feature an eclectic and innovative bill based around a music policy favouring heavy beats and heavy guitars. Co-promoted by the team behind the prestigious Exit Festival, Warrior’s Dance Festival, promises to provide a spectrum of entertainment and performances across three stages featuring a mighty headline slot from The Prodigy, showcasing new material for 2012 and very special guest Skrillex - arguably the hottest new act on the planet today! Local support comes in the form of crossover hard-core reggae act Eyesburn, punk rock bands Goblini & Ritam Nereda, electro punk-pop band Lollobrigida and psychedelic electro-rockers Petrol. There will be more acts announced via the website: www.warriorsdancefestival.com/rs

There can be no doubt that ’09 -‘11 belonged to The Prodigy. Their No 1 album ‘Invaders Must Die’ has sold over 1.5 million copies to date and was the most successful independent release of 2009 in Europe. Renowned for their incendiary live performances, the band jetted back and forth across the globe, covering in excess of 200,000 miles to play to 2 million people at 128 gigs in 37 countries. They are currently recording their sixth studio album.

On No Dancing Records in association with Third Bar Music

Wonder Villains are Eimear Coyle, Cheylene Murphy, Ryan McGroarty and Kieran Coyle. They live in Derry, N.Ireland. Fresh out of high school (The girls got their A-Levels results in the Summer) the band have embarked upon an incredible journey which has seen them win the NI Music awards ‘Contenders’ title and secure management in No Dancing (who also manage General Fiasco) and Third Bar Music Development

Invitations by BBC Introducing to play the Radio One Big Weekend Festival were followed by support shows with The Human League, Scouting For Girls, New Young Pony Club, Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, The Undertones and General Fiasco.

What do they play? They play blistering joyous Anti-Pop, smashing through two-minute pop songs while cranking the distortion on their homemade keyboard sounds!

The Irish Times described them as “Fizzy, high-energy indie pop” and Hotpress Music Magazine said they produce “Sparkly-eyed teen pop at it’s very best”. It’s no wonder that they were also featured on Q Magazines “Track of the month” and “Ones to watch”.

Their debut single ‘ZOLA’ (released Oct ’11) received airtime in Ireland and the UK nationally; on BBC Radio 1 (Daytime & Specialist), Radio 2, 6 Music, XFM, Q, Absolute Radio, RTE 2fm, Phantom FM, Ocean FM, 98FM, Fm104 and Today FM. They also bagged their debut national TV performance on ESPN’s Talk Of The Terrace show. Being the house band and playing the show out with their track “Zola” a quirky stomper telling tales of the Italian football legend Gianfranco Zola.

The single was also in the Top 5 Radio chart new entries in Ireland on the week of it’s release, a week in which Wonder Villains embarked on their first UK tour in sold out venues across the Uk & Ireland supporting General Fiasco.

The band finished off 2011: with an invitation to perform ‘Zola’ in the legendary studios of Maida Vale for BBC Radio 1 for the Huw Stephens Show, with a nod from Q Magazine as their ones to watch and they performed on BBC 1 TV show ‘Out of the Blue’.

They will release two more singles in early 2012 and have been confirmed for The Great Escape, Dot To Dot Festival and HMV’s Next Big Thing.

Zola is still ranking up on airtime on BBC Radio 1, 6..and across radio in Ireland.

‘Ferrari’ is the new Single and it’s out on Feb 17th. Tour dates announced soon.

Underworld Release “A Collection” and “1992-2012 Anthology” : Irish Rel date Fri 20th January

20 years, two compilations; all the hits and a handful of rarities.

Underworld begins a hectic 2012 by announcing the release of two career spanning compilation albums in January.

Firstly, ‘A Collection’ is a single disc set which features edited highlights of the band’s 20-year career. ‘A Collection’ features radio versions of many of the band’s best known tracks alongside recent collaborations with High Contrast & Tiesto (‘The First Note is Silent’), Mark Knight & D. Ramirez (‘Downpipe’) and Brian Eno (‘Beebop Hurry’).

The second compilation – the three-disc ‘1992-2012 Anthology’ – radically updates the band’s previous singles compilation by complimenting 16 full-length Underworld classics with nine rare/previously unreleased tracks. From pre-‘Dubnobasswithmyheadman’ outtakes through to newly mixed live recordings, 1992-2012 Anthology’s third disc is an essential purchase for any Underworld fan.

With releases from homegrown bands (Eleanor McEvoy, The Saw Doctors, Henrietta Game..) to international superstars (Duran Duran, The Prodigy, Underworld..) we have been working harder than ever to try and get promotion and exposure for our clients .

So it pleased us no end to find out that even the week before Christmas, when airplay is a difficult feat to get, Good Seed are in the Top 10 companies in Ireland at getting our acts airplay – the week before Xmas.

Now what would really be the icing on the cake is if The Saw Doctors single Downtown reached Xmas No.1! even a Top 5 chart position would be most welcome! Please note: their Dublin Olympia Theatre date has now SOLD out and there is an extra date added!

Lead singer Tom Clarke outspoken about signing

Cooking Vinyl has signed Coventry-based three-piece The Enemy, ahead of the release of the band’s third album in the Spring.

Previously signed to Warners, the band first came to attention with their Platinum-selling debut album We’ll Live and Die In These Towns in 2007, and the Top three Gold-selling follow-up Music For The People from 2009. They join Cooking Vinyl on a royalty deal for the world release of their third album, scheduled for May 2012.

The band, lead by Tom Clarke, begin work on their third album this month at Kore studios in Acton with The Bronx’s Joby J. Ford in the producer’s chair. A hugely popular live act, they supported Oasis on their final UK dates and will be announcing live dates to coincide with the album’s release.

The Enemy are managed by Nick Ember and David Bianchi for Various Artists Management, whose roster includes Reverend & The Makers, Carl Barat, The Libertines, Charli XCX and Killing Joke.

Tom Clarke, Lead Singer/ Guitarist The Enemy was outspoken about the signing; “My experience of record labels is as follows: the big ones have got big lawyers who want to pull your pants down and fuck you for fun while telling you they’re doing you a favour. And they are all about one thing – money.

“The smaller ones are about two things – people and music. Success is possible because, when a small team of enthusiastic people care, they are capable of creating something that no big label or their lawyers can buy, passion. You can’t take 25% of net passion.

“Cooking Vinyl have got bags of passion, and look where it’s got them; The Prodigy put out some of their finest work on Cooking Vinyl, The Subways tugging at the Radio One A list, that’s a guitar band on the A list in 2011. That is where passion gets you, and right now it’s gotten us into the studio, excited, enthused and passionate about being a band again. Something which our previous label miserably failed to achieve.

“Long live Cooking Vinyl and all the proud people who make it what it is.”

Commented David Bianchi, Various Artists Management “The Enemy have always been an independently minded band with ambition and I think Cooking Vinyl mirror this as a label. Watching Martin’s (Goldchmidt) success over the last few years with the label it seemed obvious that when the band’s deal with WEA was completed, this should be our next move.

“Cooking Vinyl are allowing us to put together our own bespoke marketing and A&R team which was exactly how we started on the band’s first album. John Dawkins, who A&R’d “We’ll Live and Die in These Towns”, has been brought back in for album three.”

Added Rob Collins, Director, Cooking Vinyl “It’s a pleasure to be working with a band who are so full of passion, commitment and enthusiasm. And knowing they are about to deliver their best record to date is icing on the cake”

The two signings mark what is becoming a strong 2012 for Cooking Vinyl, who have added The Cranberries, Marilyn Manson, The Cult and Roll Deep to the roster in the past twelve months.

For any artist-related queries, such as requests for photos or interviews, please contact: Linda Coogan Byrne – Irish Label Manager for Cooking Vinyl – at Linda@goodseedpr.com and or 0851659065

Underworld announced as Music Directors for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today announced that British electronic music pioneers Underworld have been appointed Music Directors for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The appointment completes the team of senior creatives that will lead the direction of the London 2012 Ceremonies.

Underworld duo Rick Smith and Karl Hyde will work alongside Oscar winning British filmmaker and producer Danny Boyle, Artistic Director of the Opening Ceremony and will be responsible for all the music in the three-hour ceremony taking place on 27 July next summer.

Underworld and Danny Boyle have enjoyed a long and diverse collaboration since Underworld’s track ‘Born Slippy’ featured in Boyle’s film ‘Trainspotting’. Over the following fifteen years the three developed a close relationship, with Smith and Hyde supplying specially created music for ‘A Life Less Ordinary’, ‘The Beach’ and co-scoring the 2007 sci-fi film ‘Sunshine’. In 2010 they came together again to work on the critically acclaimed National Theatre production of ‘Frankenstein’.

Danny Boyle said: ‘Appointing Underworld to direct the music in the Olympic Opening Ceremony is the final piece of the jigsaw for the team of leading British creatives who will deliver the ceremonies.

‘What’s interesting about working with them is how much broader their taste is than you might imagine. With ‘Frankenstein’ we really saw how far we could take a broader approach than we’d used together on the films.’

Rick Smith said: ‘The ‘Frankenstein’ project at the National Theatre was our opportunity to test ourselves as writers and music directors in a completely new environment – Danny asked us to take responsibility for every aspect of the sound and music and encouraged us to draw on a wide musical palette. It was a challenging piece of work with its roots in classic literature, that turned out to be the most fun I’ve ever had.’

Karl Hyde said: ‘We want to leave people with a musical memory of the show rather than a purely visual one. It’s a great honour to be asked to do this and one we’re taking very seriously – it’s certainly not something we’ll get the chance to do again.’

LOCOG has put in place a talented team of leading British creatives to lead the direction of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies.

In May 2010 Stephen Daldry, Mark Fisher, Hamish Hamilton, and Catherine Ugwu, were appointed as Executive Producers across all four Ceremonies, and Danny Boyle, was appointed as Artistic Director for the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

In February 2011 Take That’s creative director Kim Gavin was appointed Artistic Director for the Closing Ceremonies of both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. He was joined by multi-award-winning stage and costume designer Es Devlin and Bond film composer and record producer David Arnold as part of the Closing Ceremonies team.

In June 2011 Jenny Sealey MBE and Bradley Hemmings were appointed as Artistic Directors of the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

For further information please contact the London 2012 Press Office on +44 (0)203 2012 100 or visit the website at www.london2012.com.

Underworld – www.underworldlive.com

Rick Smith and Karl Hyde are artists, composers, musicians and creative partners of thirty years. For the last two decades, the duo have established an international reputation as the pioneering British electronic music group, ‘Underworld’. They are also founder members of art and design collective ‘Tomato’. As Underworld they have released six studio albums and headlined festival stages around the world since their 1994 debut album ‘dubnobasswithmyheadman’. Their film credits include scores for Academy Award-winning directors Anthony Minghella and Danny Boyle. The pair’s theatre credits include scores for the National Theatre of Scotland’s ‘Beautiful Burnout’ and the National Theatre’s production of ‘Frankenstein’. As artists and members of ‘Tomato’, they have exhibited artworks and installations at galleries around the world. Smith and Hyde first worked with Boyle in 1996, with ‘Trainspotting’ spawning the Underworld global smash-hit ‘Born Slippy’: the fifteen-year relationship between them that spans film, television, theatre and now the Opening Ceremony for the London Olympic Games.

Danny Boyle

Danny Boyle is a British filmmaker and producer. He is best known for his work on films such as Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Sunshine, 127 Hours and Slumdog Millionaire. For the latter Boyle won numerous awards in 2008, including the Academy Award for Best Director. Boyle is also an experienced Theatre and Television maker. He began his career at the Joint Stock Theatre Company, before moving onto the Royal Court Theatre in 1982 where he directed Genius by Howard Brenton and Saved by Edward Bond. He also directed five productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company. In 2010 he directed the critically acclaimed Frankenstein for the National Theatre. Boyle’s televison credits include, Alan Clarke’s Elephant before becoming a director on shows such as Arise And Go Now, For The Greater Good, Scout and three episodes of Inspector Morse. He was also responsible for the BBC2 series Mr. Wroe’s Virgins. Many of his films display a popularism and scale that are perfectly suited for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games. He is widely known to the general public, particularly since the phenomenal global success of Slumdog Millionaire. Originally from Manchester, he has lived in the East end of London for most of his adult life and is a passionate supporter of London 2012.

Legendary rock band THE CULT has re-teamed with producer Bob Rockfor the recording sessions for the group’s long-awaited ninth album, tentatively due in early 2012 via Cooking Vinyl Records.

A photo of THE CULT guitarist Billy Duffy in the studio with Rock putting the “the finishing touches” on the band’s new CD can be seen below.

Bob Rock previously worked with THE CULT on 1989′s “Sonic Temple”, 1994′s “The Cult” and the 2001 comeback album “Beyond Good And Evil”.

In a recent interview with ViperRoom.com, THE CULT bassist Chris Wysestated about the status of the band’s new CD, “The new THE CULT deal is with [the] Cooking Vinyl [label]. We’re in good company with THE PRODIGY and MARILYN MANSON. The record is nearly done; Ian[Astbury] is probably doing vocals right now. It is due out April 2012!! This record is kind of a ZEP/STOOGES mix of energy, and I believe showcases a new level of depth for THE CULT.”

THE CULT‘s most recent release. “Capsule 2: New Blood Deep Cuts”, featured new songs “Embers” and “Until The Light Takes Us”, live recordings of some of the band’s huge hits and an intimate look into THE CULT‘s rehearsal space, with a never-before-seen warm-up performance of “Black Angel”.

Rather than revisit the traditional method of releasing a long form CD, the band pioneered a new way of providing material. Capsules span multiple media formats including vinyl, digital, USB, CD and DVD formats, and can be purchased at CultCapsuleStore.com.

THE CULT is Ian Astbury (vocals), Billy Duffy (guitar), Chris Wyse(bass), John Tempesta (drums) and Mike Dimkich (rhythm guitar).

The band who shot to fame by immortalising the N17 could hit No 1 this Christmas — singing about the merits of city life. Veteran Irish rock band The Saw Doctors have teamed up with legendary singer Petula Clark on a cover of her massive 1960s hit ‘Downtown’. Having covered the track at concerts for the past few years, the Tuam group only decided to record it as a single last month. But they were amazed when Ms Clark (79) agreed to join them in the studio for the recording session in London.

“How it happened was incredible,” said guitarist Leo Moran. ”Petula lives in Switzerland, but by chance the producer we were working with, Philip Tennant, is a good friend of her manager, John Williams. There were a few phonecalls made and the next thing we were told was that Petula would be joining us in the studio. She didn’t seem fazed meeting us, as she’s worked with Muppets before on ‘The Muppet Show’,” Mr Moran joked.

Ms Clarke has also agreed to appear in the video for the new single — shot on the streets of Paris — which is released in Ireland on December 9.

The Saw Doctors have teamed up with the iconic Petula Clark to record a version of that legendary chanteuse’s ‘Downtown’. The song has been a live favourite in Saw Doctors’ shows for the past year and when the band asked Petula to re-record the vocal to her 1965 classic she was happy to comply.

If we think back to the popular culture of music in the 1960’s, there are a few songs that come to mind which are as relevant today as they were back then. This Christmas, Ireland’s most loved household band ‘The Saw Doctors’ release their cover version of “Downtown”, the sensational pop song composed by Tony Hatch which was recorded and made an International hit by Petula Clark. At the time of its release in 1965, ‘Downtown’ sold three million copies, hitting the No.1 slot in the US and becoming the first of fifteen consecutive Top 40 hits for Petula across the pond. Petula subsequently won a Grammy for “Best Rock & Roll Record” for Downtown and in 2003 her recording of Downtown was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame. She is still the best-selling female British solo artist of all time.

The cover version of Downtown by The Saw Doctors (out on Dec 9th 2011) features the wonderful voice of original singer Petula Clark. Their will also be an exclusive Music Video hosted on the Saw Doctors YouTube channel which will go live nearer to release date which also features Petula Clark. The video is produced and filmed by Eugene O Connor (Father Ted + Kilnascully) who originally filmed the video for their hit song I Uesta Lover. Petula also recently shot her parts for the song’s video in Paris.

In the past year, The Saw Doctors blazed back phoenix-like to their rightful place as one of the nation’s most-loved bands. In 2010, after the first week of ‘The Further Adventures of….’ album being released, it knocked off mercury winners The XX and Villagers from the No.1 position on the Indie Charts by coming straight in at No. 1! (It also came in at a No. 7 position on the mainstream charts and maintained a Top 10 position for over 6 weeks).

A vast list of Chart success on numerous songs over the years such as well known hits: “N17”, a cover of SUGABABES “About You Now”, (note that The Sugababes’ original version of About You Now stalled at No. 2 in the Irish Chart while The Saw Doctors reached No. 1!) and more recently the Christmas 2010 No. 1 acapella version of ‘Red Cortina’, have helped The Saw Doctors maintain their defiant musical stance on the Irish music scene.

The current lineup features: Leo Moran (vocals, guitar), Davy Carton (vocals, guitar), Kevin Duffy (keyboards), Anthony Thistlethwaite (bass guitar, saxophone), and new drummer and co writer Eímhín Cradock (drums + vocals).

Upcoming Irish dates:

Saturday, 12 November 2011 Dublin Academy

Friday, 18 November 2011 Belfast Mandela Hall

Saturday, 19 November 2011 Navan Swan Lane

Sunday, 20 November 2011 Derry Millennium Forum

See www.sawdoctors.com for a list of all Irish & UK tour dates.

ALSO::::::

The Saw Doctors hit the headlines last week in UK newspapers and TV when it emerged that they had written a song about the new Irish president-elect Michael D. Higgins as long ago as 1994. The song entitled ‘Michael D. Rocking in the Dail’ (Irish parliament) appeared on the b-side of their single ‘Small Bit Of Love’ and heralded the appointment of the then newly elected Irish Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht.
