COUNTING CROWS

ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM ‘UNDERWATER SUNSHINE’ (COOKCD561) WILL BE RELEASED APRIL 6th

Multi-platinum American rock band, Counting Crows have announced they will be releasing their first new album in over 4 years on April 6th, 2012.  Underwater Sunshine (or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation) is a collection of songs, both familiar and obscure, interpreted by one of the most soulful and recognizable bands of the past two decades.

Underwater Sunshine is a testament of a band geek-obsessed with music. “There’s a million great songs written every day that you discover, and wish your friends could appreciate as much as you do,” says singer/songwriter Adam Duritz. “These songs come from bands young and old, stretching from the early 60s to last year. They’re all great and will hopefully be heard by a few more people now.”

Produced by Counting Crows and Shawn Dealey, Underwater Sunshine features tracks written by artists such as Big Star, Gram Parsons, Tender Mercies, Kasey Anderson and The Faces. Each rendition offers an entire spectrum of human emotion, delivered with the conviction and intense honesty the band is known for.

As their first independent release, it was the right time for the Crows to make this album. “If you wonder why we didn’t just write our own record, it’s simply because we wanted to do THIS one,” says Duritz, We now have the creative freedom to release albums like this and offer our fans more music than ever.”

In the spirit of becoming an independent band, the Crows will stream the new album, on demand in its entirety prior to release on radio station websites and other digital partners.  They are also giving away a free download of their new song, “Mercy” on http://www.countingcrows.com/

The Crows also gave their fans the opportunity to design their new album package. Just as the band is interpreting songs from others, fans became a part of this unique album by visually interpreting the Crows. The winning designer is working with the band’s creative director to develop the rest of the album layout. The contest was ran by Creative Allies, and is proving to be their most successful contest to date. To find out more, go to: http://creativeallies.com/contests/314-Design-an-Album-Cover-for-Counting-Crows

Counting Crows will also partner with Indaba Music and Guitar Center to launch a contest in search of  the best Counting Crows covers. After listening to all submissions, the band will select 3 winning tracks to be awarded various prizes.  For further info go to:  http://www.indabamusic.com/opportunities/counting-crows-cover-song-contest

//Wonder Villains//
Release Single: “Ferrari” on Feb 17th
On No Dancing Records in association with Third Bar Music

Wonder Villains are Eimear Coyle, Cheylene Murphy, Ryan McGroarty and Kieran Coyle. They live in Derry, N.Ireland. Fresh out of high school (The girls got their A-Levels results in the Summer) the band have embarked upon an incredible journey which has seen them win the NI Music awards ‘Contenders’ title and secure management in No Dancing (who also manage General Fiasco) and Third Bar Music Development

Invitations by BBC Introducing to play the Radio One Big Weekend Festival were followed by support shows with The Human League, Scouting For Girls, New Young Pony Club, Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, The Undertones and General Fiasco.

What do they play? They play blistering joyous Anti-Pop, smashing through two-minute pop songs while cranking the distortion on their homemade keyboard sounds!

The Irish Times described them as “Fizzy, high-energy indie pop” and Hotpress Music Magazine said they produce “Sparkly-eyed teen pop at it’s very best”. It’s no wonder that they were also featured on Q Magazines “Track of the month” and “Ones to watch”.

Their debut single ‘ZOLA’ (released Oct ’11) received airtime in Ireland and the UK nationally; on BBC Radio 1 (Daytime & Specialist), Radio 2, 6 Music, XFM, Q, Absolute Radio, RTE 2fm, Phantom FM, Ocean FM, 98FM, Fm104 and Today FM. They also bagged their debut national TV performance on ESPN’s Talk Of The Terrace show. Being the house band and playing the show out with their track “Zola” a quirky stomper telling tales of the Italian football legend Gianfranco Zola.

The single was also in the Top 5 Radio chart new entries in Ireland on the week of it’s release, a week in which Wonder Villains embarked on their first UK tour in sold out venues across the Uk & Ireland supporting General Fiasco.

The band finished off 2011: with an invitation to perform ‘Zola’ in the legendary studios of Maida Vale for BBC Radio 1 for the Huw Stephens Show, with a nod from Q Magazine as their ones to watch and they performed on BBC 1 TV show ‘Out of the Blue’.

They will release two more singles in early 2012 and have been confirmed for The Great Escape, Dot To Dot Festival and HMV’s Next Big Thing.

Zola is still ranking up on airtime on BBC Radio 1, 6..and across radio in Ireland.

‘Ferrari’ is the new Single and it’s out on Feb 17th. Tour dates announced soon.

WONDER VILLAINS

Release Single: ’ZOLA’ 14th Oct  (17th in Uk) On No Dancing Records (In Association with Third Bar Artist Development)

We’re not quite sure how they’ve managed it, but somehow Wonder Villains have soared high above teen angst and anger. Having just completed their A-Levels they’re now busy dishing out helpings of joyful, blistering anti-pop, while finding out how high they can push the distortion on their homemade keyboard sounds. With their heavy dependence on Casio keyboards, hook laden choruses and perhaps a passing nod to the girl power movement of the 1990s, influences such as Vampire Weekend and local bands Two Door Cinema Club do leave their mark upon the Villains’ sound yet not in an in-your-face way. Their musical offerings will also please fans with a taste for – Weezer & Los Campesinos.

The band’s debut release; Zola, will be out through No Dancing Records in October; a bit of a joint release with Third Bar Artist Development. The Wonder Villains; a pop band from Derry, love to make songs about many varying subjects such as ‘Zola’ (yes Gianfranco, the footballer) and Peter Petrelli (the character from Heroes). They have been keeping themselves entertained with support slots alongside New Young Pony Club, Casiotone For The Painfully Alone and The Undertones. Other high profile shows include T-Vital (A confident performance from the sun kissed pop collective), Glasgowbury (If a band was made entirely of sherbet it would be these guys!) and BBC R1’s One Big Weekend Festival.

They’ll continue to blaze a trail across Ireland & UK in the coming months and head out on tour with General Fiasco in October.

THE DEAD FLAGS

THE DEAD FLAGS: EP ” YOU GOT IT WRONG” RELEASE DATE: FRI 28TH OCTOBER 2011

Holy perfect punk-pop Batman! Ploughing a singular furrow through the verdant fields of rock and pop, The Dead Flags have travelled the length and breadth of the country, turning innocent bystanders into ardent fans; to spread their contagion and unleashing a string of irresistible tunes to capture the hearts and minds of an unsuspecting populace. The band first came to the nation’s attention in early 2008 when an early demo started changing hands, ultimately winning them a spot on 2FM’s “next-big-thing” Showcase, 2fm 2moro 2our and Hot Press proclaiming that “The Dead Flags are not just good, they’re irritatingly good”.

The next 18 months flew by in a whirlwind of achievements- a Top 30 single and an acclaimed EP, notching up national radio-play with “I Can’t Be Held Responsible” becoming a jingle for the Alison Curtis show on Today FM and even Uncle Larry Gogan showing them love on his 2FM Chart Show. Soon after a slot with Therapy? in a German field (with Andy Cairns already knowing the band, even before they had a chance to swap CD’s), the band decamped to darkest Donegal to record their debut album.Produced by Karl Odlum (Ham Sandwich, Gemma Hayes, The Frames), the band recorded live and overdubbed their now-trademark creamy harmonies to fully realise what is now undeniably, The Dead Flags sound.

Mastered in Abbey Road with Steve Rooke (Franz Ferdinand, The Beatles) in a fog of food-poisoning and insomnia, the results were packaged as “Gentlemen’s Club” and released in April 2010.After Entertainment.ie streamed the album in full on their website, the release was met with a flurry of superlatives – long-time supporters Hot Press hailing it as “a 12-song, 40-minute all singing, all dancing extravaganza” and the Sunday Business Post calling it “an extremely promising debut from an exuberant collection of talents”. The wireless was delighted too – airplay on BBC Radio One, 2FM, Phantom and more with lead single Anymore spending 3 weeks on RTE 1′s Daytime Playlist and Tony Fenton selecting the track as a “Daily Download” on his Today FM show. AU Magazine called in the results of the Northern Irish Jury, saying “Let’s Start A Fire Tonight could be one of the best Irish pop songs of the year” and 2FM’s Jenny Huston agreed calling it “an absolutely brilliant track”.

With drummer Kevin Lowery departing the band in late 2010, The Dead Flags went on hiatus, deciding on their next move. Working with rising Irish producer Ciaran Bradshaw (O Emperor, Miracle Bell), singer/guitarist Billy Fitzgerald and bassist Dave Power enlisted the help of drummer Paul Byrne and the band entered the studio in Spring 2011 to work on new material. After returning to live performance in May, the band now announce a new EP with two new songs and a remix by frequent collaborator, electro-sexfunk artist Jack Samson. Lead track is YOU GOT IT WRONG.

HOWLING BELLS

HOWLING BELLS THE LOUDEST ENGINE (COOKCD546) NEW ALBUM RELEASED SEPTEMBER 9th

Howling Bells will release their new album on September 9th on Cooking Vinyl and was recorded in Las Vegas with The Killers’ Mark Stoermer producing, The Loudest Engine (COOKCD546).A raw, psychedelic third studio album, and the sequel to 2009′s Radio Wars, the recording of The Loudest Engine saw Howling Bells, the Australian-formed, London-based four piece comprising singer/ guitarist Juanita Stein and her brother Joel (lead guitarist), drummer Glenn Moule, and bassist Brendan Picchio – forge a sonic union with Nevada’s expansive surroundings and Las Vegas’s street-soiled vibe.

Howling Bells’ desert sessions were the final part of a year-long writing adventure that saw the band, on their own tours and with the likes of Coldplay and The Killers, wander through strange American outposts and seedy European back streets in their downtime. Their travels provided endless lyrical inspiration; much of The Loudest Engine was written on the road.It was on the road that Howling Bells first linked with The Killers’ Mark Stoermer.

Touring together, the two groups bonded over their love of similar music; so, when Howling Bells began planning the recording of their latest project at the tail end of summer 2010, The Killers’ bassist was the first person they called. With Stoermer at the dials, Howling Bells worked with a creative spirit they’d not channeled previously.  They’d already worked up 30 fresh demos, but in The Killers’ Battle Born studio in Nevada, these sketches were fleshed out, given new muscle.

The result is 12 songs that burn with a ferocious intensity, clipping garage blues (Charlatan) to end of the world freak outs (The Wilderness) and heart-bruised laments (Into The Sky). This is an album Howling Bells were eager to make.Says Stein of the album, “There’s a singular sound which is more folk and rock than our last two albums, but it’s interpreted in a modern sense. It wasn’t a conscious effort to make a ’70s tinged record. It was a very natural progression.”The album shows that we’re we’re 21st century kids making a modern psychedelic record. [It] is our grown up record. The first was about that great initial leap, the second was us exploring different waters. This one is us, all having met at one place, at one time. I think this record will change people’s perspectives of the band.

"Since we hired Good Seed PR we have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of PR we’re getting for our artists in Ireland. The service and reporting we’re getting from Linda is spot on. She’s helpful, professional and on the ball, and our artists love her. I’m not sure I should be saying this, as she’s so good, I don’t really want to share…" - Anette Collins Head of International– Cooking Vinyl Records
