VERSECHORUSVERSE Debut EP’ VCV’ out Feb 17th via Third Bar Records

VerseChorusVerse (or Tony Wright, as he is known in some ever exciting circles) is delighted to announce the release of his debut EP, having used up his imagination at the time pouring it into the recorded work, the EP is titled, “VCV EP”.

Tony has created a subversive slice of folk pop wherein the melodies lodge themselves in your mind for some time, thus permitting the sometimes dark, sometimes bright, lyrical work to take up residence in your sub-conscience in the manner of a welcome house guest detailing the ups and downs of this ever spinning planet we know as home.

Having forged a path as a guitarist and founding member in an instrumental rock band (And So I Watch You From Afar), Tony felt the urge and need to explore different ways of expressing himself, instead of a wall of sound, drowned in effects and lightning quick timeshifts, he wanted to see whether he could express just as much intensity and emotion using only his voice, lyrics and an acoustic guitar in a live setting. Tony puts it another way: “I just wanted to get scared again, jumping off a cliff into the ocean is way more daring than jumping off a table. Unless that table happens to be on a cliff of course.” These tracks are fleshed out with more instrumentation but remain wholly true to the aforementioned manner in which they were conceived.

The lead track, “One Fine Day”, is a celebratory pop protest number set in a hopeful but, thus far, fictional future, damning the aftermath of conflict. “Into the Autumn”, is a song laced with hope coupled with realism. Whilst the the two closing tracks, “The Accused”, and, “Thrown Me Away (Sold Us Astray)” put a personal touch to a shared feeling of disillusionment with the powers that be, whether they be Politicians, Bankers, lovers or absent friends. VerseChorusVerse will embarking on a UK tour this November with US Folk Punk legend Jonah Matranga, then returning for a Belfast gig on the 8th of December in the Black Box.

VerseChorusVerse is eager to be heard.

28-year-old Dublin singer-songwriter Stephen Young first appeared on the music scene in late 2008 with the release of his EP A Boat Called Lottery.
The six-song folk EP earned Young some glowing reviews in National press and prompted Young to take his songs to a broader audience and he put together a troupe of musicians called The Union to become his band and set off recording his first LP album.

After a year of gigging in some of the country’s most illustrious intimate venues, such as Whelans, The Spirit Store and Cleere’s, Young and the Union began work on their debut album with producer/engineer Tommy O’Sullivan in Ashtown Studios. The singer joined forces with producer Gavin Glass and engineer Stephen O’Brien and the final sessions produced Young and the band’s single Coke & Rum. Mastered by Aidan Foley, Young and The Union are now gearing up for a nationwide tour for the release of Wilderness Machine for the 25th of March.

KATE WALSH

KATE WALSH //Radio single ‘A Little Respect’ Taken from new album ‘Peppermint Radio’ (Blueberry Pie Records)

Released Fri. Sept 10th 2010

Folk Singer Kate Walsh aims to impress with her new album, PEPPERMINT RADIO; an arresting collection of unexpected covers, delicately strewn and coherently welded in Kate’s own unique musical subtleties. Introducing the album, the first single will be ‘A LITTLE RESPECT’, the Top 5 UK Chart hit from 1988 by Erasure. Walsh’s own interpretation of the song is presented in a sublime simplistic piano based melodic temperance that marks the stunning vocalist that Walsh is widely known to be. Earnestly inviting the listener in and introducing them to a new audible experience of some old classics, done in a style that only Kate Walsh can do so perfectly sublime.

For Walsh, album No. 4 is a combination of important songs that transport you to another time and includes songs by some of her favourite UK artists from the 80s/90s & 00s.  The idea behind the album title was inspired from her childhood years when she played with a knitting machine that she emulated as a mixing desk (complete with faders) and pretended she worked in a radio station, which she called PEPPERMINT RADIO. That heralded a vast selection of music that shaped the artist she became.

At present Walsh’s resume reads rather impressively: She is the only unsigned artist ever to have had an iTunes No.1 Album in the UK or the US. She has had several big syncs on US & UK shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and her single ‘Your Song’ was featured on the 2008 film ‘Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging’ as well the 2008 film The Crew. She previously performed on National Irish television shows such as ‘Other Voices’ and ‘The Late Late Show’. She has toured with Richard Hawley, Turin Brakes, Paulo Nutini, Josh Ritter, Mick Flannery and has just played 6 sold out shows at the Royal Albert Hall with Mark Knopfler.

"Since we hired Good Seed PR we have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of PR we’re getting for our artists in Ireland. The service and reporting we’re getting from Linda is spot on. She’s helpful, professional and on the ball, and our artists love her. I’m not sure I should be saying this, as she’s so good, I don’t really want to share…" - Anette Collins Head of International– Cooking Vinyl Records
