Dublin born Ryan O’Shaughnessy arrived into a musical family in 1992. It soon became apparent that his love and panache for music was equaled with acting also. So its no surprise that when he turned 8 years of age Ryan landed the role to play the character Mark Halpin in RTE’s long running TV soap Fair City, a role in which he claimed for almost a decade. Having spent his teen years on the Irish screens, it was when he turned 17 that musicality became a priority and he left the hit TV soap to begin a career in music.

While studying at renowned Music College BIMM Dublin as a songwriter in 2012, Ryan began honing in his songwriting skillset. He went on to compete in TV shows such as The Voice of Ireland, Britain’s Got Talent & The Hit. During this time, Ryan’s self-penned song ‘No Name’ accumulated over 45 million hits on YouTube. He was then signed to Sony RCA in the UK, where he worked on his debut EP that reached No.1 in Ireland for 2 consecutive months.

As well as writing and working for different publishing companies and studios, O’Shaughnessy has toured Ireland, the UK, USA and Canada. Releasing his own music and collaborations with other artists through his recording label ‘Bayview Records’. His latest album ‘Back to Square One’ shows a clear maturity in his songwriting and musical taste.

In May 2018 Ryan performed for Ireland at the Eurovision, which took place in Lisbon, Portugal. In making it through the semi-final Ryans track ‘Together’ went from 250/1 to 7/1 in the bookies, making it Irelands most successful Eurovision entry in over 6 years.

Ryan has just announced the release of his brand new single ‘Civil War’, which is out October 5th 2018. The song was co-written at a writing camp in Toronto by Ava Kay, Tino Zolfo and Ryan. The song aims to spread the message that in the current global wartime crisis no mater the scale of the battle every war effect’s us in a similar way, and only by choosing to resolve can we defeat conflict.

Says Ryan “Most of us have also experienced “Civil War” on different levels. Even if that may be an internal battle or a battle within a relationship it’s hard to avoid and if we can make it though the hard times that we face then we can all benefit, and grow stronger as humans and individuals”.

‘Civil War’ was cp-produced by Tino Zolfo, Matt Weir and Pete Wallace in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the vocals were recorded by PJ Ronan in Herbert Place studios, Dublin and it was mixed by Jim Low (Stereophonics, Herbie Hancock, Beyonce) and mastered by Dickie Beetham at 360mastering. The National tour will kick off on Sat 15th of Sept with Jared Dylan as special guest and Jacob Hanley on support. ‘Civil War’ is released across all digital platforms from October 5th 2018.
