ELEANOR MCEVOY announces new album  ‘The Thomas Moore Project’, released July 28th

“One of the few artists who can do no wrong whatsoever.”BBC Radio 2

Ireland’s internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Eleanor McEvoy announces her new album ‘The Thomas Moore Project’, released July 28th 2017. The album marks a significant first step in Eleanor’s lifelong journey discovering the wonderful songs and extraordinary life of Thomas Moore. Produced and arranged by Eleanor, who is best known for her songs ‘Sophie’ and the Irish standard ‘Only A Woman’s Heart’, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary, the album more than pays homage to one of the Georgian era’s most beloved writers and entertainers. The Thomas Moore Project celebrates and revitalises some of the lesser and indeed well known material by the said luminary such as Oft In The Stilly Night, The Minstrel Boy and The Harp That Once Through Tara’s Halls.

Says Eleanor of the album: “I hope you will enjoy this and join me. My approach is intentionally different. I needed to go further than just pay homage so my arrangements for this choice of 11 songs are of this century”. I’m not sure when I began my intriguing quest but I do remember singing Thomas Moore songs in a choir when I was around nine years of age. My fascination is not just with his music but also with his own place in history in a fantastic artistic period with contrasting social and political upheaval in Europe and Ireland. My journey continues.

Eleanor performs vocals, guitars, strings and keyboards on the album and recruited Damon Butcher from The Beautiful South on keyboards, Eamonn Nolan from The RTE Concert Orchestra on flugelhorn, Eoghan O ‘Neill from Moving Hearts, Chris Rea and Riverdance on bass and Guy Rickerby from Riverdance, Duke Special and The RTE Concert Orchestra on drums and percussion. The musicianship on the album echoes throughout every verse and chorus along with McEvoy’s rich, lilting voice and beautiful playing.

Now based in Wexford, Dublin-born McEvoy’s career originally started as a session musician, which included a long stint with The Irish National Symphony Orchestra and with The Mary Black Band. McEvoy decided to develop her own career, and quickly had the title track on The Woman’s Heart compilation and a US record deal with Geffen Records. McEvoy was soon touring the world to promote her eponymous debut album for Geffen, which went on to sell 250,000 copies. At the same time, ‘A Woman’s Heart’ entered the Irish charts, selling over 750,000 copies – and remains one of Ireland’s biggest selling albums of all-time. These successes established McEvoy as one of Ireland’s biggest stars, launching a career that has since seen her release twelve studio albums and tour the world.

She has been on the road for 2 years with her show Naked…Live and this year has gone from being a long time Board member of IMRO to being its Chairman

Upcoming Irish show listed below:

July 29th in The Theatre Royal, Waterford. (Performing songs from Naked Music Tour & album)

Linda Em announces Irish Dates

LINDA EM announces Irish dates!!!

Linda Em is a London based roots singer-songwriter who hasn’t forgotten her Irish roots with Celtic shades running throughout her music. As well as classic Woodstock era songwriters such as Leonard Cohen, Kris Kristofferson and Melanie Linda’s lyrical narrative is heavily influenced by the authors, poets, playwrights and artists that inform the strong storytelling aspect of her songwriting. The subject matter of her songs runs the gamut from myths and legends, the inspirational figures she has known in her own life and the battered but noble occupants of the typical ‘old man’s pubs’ of pre-hipster East London and such is the case with new singles ‘Buccaneer’ and ‘Stories’ set to be released on June 23rd.

The feedback on ‘Stories’ is certainly an optimistic one; celebrated Irish DJ Roddie Cleere (KCLRFM) said “it feels like it is a song from the 60’s folk scene”… while DCFM’s Mick Hanley said it was a “brilliant” tune! Radio Kerry also gave it the thumbs up as have uRadio & BBC Radio Ulster. Linda’s clear, warm, sultry vocal draws the listener into her musical story telling. What‘s unique is the extraordinary mix of influences that create Linda’s original Roots sound. There is certainly folk (revisited from a present-day London / Irish cultural perspective) but also with a bit of rock, front porch blues, torch song and even a hint of ska and trip-hop if you listen closely enough. The production of her songs takes you back to the 1960s and 1970s but with a modern day, eclectic feel.

Details on Upcoming singles: ‘Buccaneer’, written with and recorded by Linda’s long-term collaborator Chris Wyatt and mixed by Charles Foskett, combines a classic 1960s big ballad arrangement with traditional instrumentation to pay tribute to an influential mentor. ‘Stories’, written with Eamon Gilmore and recorded by Chris Wyatt is a more introspective song, rich in atmosphere which draws the listener in further the more it builds.

Live, Linda Em can be accompanied in an intimate acoustic setting or by her full seven-piece band, which includes soulful backing singers along with violin, bouzouki and bódhran – bringing that Celtic feel to the music. her upcoming Irish Gig dates are listed below.

Irish gig dates:
Friday 28th of July
London Derry Gulladuff
Sat July 29th
Donegal, Mollys Bar.
Sunday 30th of July
Cross keys inn, County Antrim.
Monday 31st July Whelans Song Cycle songclub

The 4 of US announce new single GOING SOUTH + Nationwide Tour

The 4 Of Us

Single: “Going South” Out July 2017- From the critically acclaimed album “Sugar Island”

The 4 Of Us have been a steadfast part of Irish music history for over a quarter of a century. Formed and fronted by Newry-born brothers Brendan and Declan Murphy, they have developed a unique musical identity, which has produced original and award- winning recordings, as well as a large and loyal fan base. To date, they have notched up an enviable catalogue of timeless songs, including six top 20 Irish charting albums. Their music has also been featured extensively on American, UK, and Irish TV soundtracks.

The 4 Of Us shot to early fame towards the end of 1989 with their debut Songs for the Tempted, which featured the massive hits Mary and Drag My Bad Name Down. The follow up Man Alive made Q magazine’s prestigious Top 50 Albums of 1992 and included the UK Top 30 song She Hits Me.

‘Sugar Island’, their latest album, was released to critical acclaim in November 2016. Lyrically, the album explores the brothers’ early years growing up in Northern Ireland; musically, it focuses on the trademark interplay of their acoustic guitars. As singer Brendan recalls: ’It was a dark time for sure, but as kids we still managed to have a lot of fun. Everyone who lived through that time has their own stories to tell; we thought we’d share some of ours.’

Sugar Island features 12 new songs. It is arguably their most biographical album, including tracks reflecting on the brothers’ childhood, growing up in a border town during the height of the troubles in Northern Ireland. The latest single ‘Going South’ plays homage to that sentiment.
