“Hospital is engrossing whilst also keeping the hooks and melodic lushness in tact.”- TheLastMixTape

Since the release of debut EP “Hush” in 2014, Heroes In Hiding have gathered a momentum that is now in full pendulum swing. The burgeoning band are center stage in Ireland as one of the most promising talked about acts on the scene. Having performed at festivals such as Electric Picnic, Forbidden Fruit, Castlepalooza, BD Festival, Life Festival, even securing a slot at Iceland’s Secret Solstice festival – the band are now ready to release their first LP titled ‘CURTAINS’ which is due for an autumn release date of Oct 7th 2016.

‘Hospital’, documents a recent close encounter with death by a member of the band Joe Carroll: “I was on my way home from a friend’s birthday party on a hired coach. There weren’t enough seats so I was standing up at the back. I leaned back and fell out of the door and onto the motorway. I don’t remember much of the incident itself and the next thing I remember was lying on a trolley in the hospital in a neck brace. Luckily I didn’t sustain any lasting injuries but I was fully aware of how close I came to being much worse off. On my second day in hospital I heard a nurse using some sort of machine behind the curtain on the patient next to me. It was bleeping with two harmonious tones. Something told me I had to make a song out of it so I recorded it on my phone (which had miraculously survived the fall). A few days later when I was at home and feeling a little better I put the recording onto my laptop and recorded a rough draft of the song “Hospital”. The song is a document of my experience that night, and my realisation that life is very fragile and something to be cherished.”

HEROES IN HIDING ARE: Joe Carroll – Vox and Acoustic Guitar, Liam McCabe – Vox, Bass, Violin, Sax, electronics, Oisin Jacob – Vox, Electric Guitar and Kalimba and Cian Donohoe – Drums & Percussion.

Kate Rusby – Announes new album + Irish Tour Dates

“One of the most affecting voices in British folk” – Q Magazine

24 years on the road. One of the finest interpreters of traditional folk song and one of our most emotive original songwriters – melding old and new so you can barely see the join. Mercury Prize nominee. Folk Singer of the Year, Best Live Act, Best Album and Best Original Song winner at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Inveterate Yorkshire Tea drinker. Freeman of Barnsley. Darling of British folk.

On the brink of her quarter century of music making, the incomparable Kate Rusby will release her 14th studio album Life in a Paper Boat on October 7, 2016.

If you think by now you know pretty much everything there is to know about a Kate Rusby release be prepared to follow the diversion signs. Boasting six Kate originals and skilfully produced by husband Damien O’Kane, this 12-track album is full of his vibrant trademarks and unexpected twists and tangents ranging from subtle, sensitive treatments to unflinching flamboyance making for a brimming, full bodied soundscape.

Says Kate: “Damien had more time in the production seat for this album. We wanted to experiment much more with sounds and effects, especially those that can be recreated on stage. He is quite the master of it these days -we were both really excited about where it would lead and both love the end result”. Producing that soundscape are her talented band of Damien O’Kane (acoustic and electric guitars) Duncan Lyall on double bass, Nick Cooke (diatonic accordion), Steven Byrnes (bouzouki & tenor guitar), Steven Iveson (electric guitar) and Josh Clark (percussion).

The string section comprises Donald Grant and Magnus Johnston on fiddle, Triona Milne on viola and Laura Anstee on cello. They are joined by two members of The Alison Krauss Band – brilliant banjo player Ron Block and vocalist Dan Tyminski as well as Michael McGoldrick on flute and whistles and Anthony Davis on keyboards and synth.

“I wanted more percussion for this album but not drum kit, says Kate. “What I wanted was for the percussive sounds to be generated elsewhere, to really emphasise the union between old songs and modern musical technology. They fit so perfectly alongside each other but also at times have a gritty friendship that creates an uneasy darkness around a song. Josh Clark expertly deciphered what we were after and also mixed the album.

“The other fantastic sound ever-present on the album is the Moog, played by our amazing bass player Duncan Lyall. It provides a sumptuous electronic layer that moulds perfectly to the songs like tinfoil on a home-made space outfit!

“I used to think songs had more space with less going on around them, but actually by widening the sonic perimeter we made a larger space for the songs to thrive, just like moving the jumpers to make a wider goal posts. It’s certainly been a wonderful journey of discovery for myself as a music maker.”

Like many, Kate had been moved by watching endless TV reports of the migrant crisis and this triggered the touching title track.

Says Kate: “I wrote the title track after watching the many desperate souls prepared to risk the lives of themselves and their very young families to cross the sea in hope of a better, safer life. I wish I had some answers, but all I have is a song. The title seemed fitting for the whole album as it lends itself to so many different images and metaphors, giving me a canvas with scope for a multitude of musical and lyrical brushstrokes.”

“Everybody loves Kate Rusby, not just for her lovely voice, but for the way she has moved folk forward while remaining true to tradition” Sunday Times

life-in-a-paper-boat-coverInspired by her old ballad books Kate regularly trawls her collection to unearth fresh songs to sing and has long been acclaimed for her imaginative and powerful reinventions of traditional folk material.

The album opens with the bright, breezy Benjamin Bowmaneer, a quirky song said to have been inspired by the Hundred Years War, about a tailor moved to fight for England with a horse made from board and a bridle from scissor parts!

Hunter’s Moon is Kate’s soaringly beautiful, solar tale of the moon’s unrequited love for the sun as they move around the celestial world, destined never to meet. Kate’s distinctive and tender voice mixes seamlessly with strings and electric guitar to create a real song of longing.

The traditional words of The Ardent Shepherdess are set to Rusby’s own delightful tune with Ron Block providing a gorgeous banjo interlude, in one of the stand out tracks on the album, again of circumspect love. This time temptress and shepherdess Janie barters her kisses for sheep!

Michael McGoldrick’s whistle wizardry laces Kate’s gently reflective Only Desire What You Have while Hundred Hearts mixes traditional words with those of Kate set to her tune in the aural equivalent of an eternity ring.

Kate dips her toe in the sea for her ominous, mournful song The Mermaid with guest vocals from Dan Tyminski – an exquisitely sensitive number.

The mood changes for the traditional upbeat Pace Egging Song celebrating the West Yorkshire Easter tradition of performing Pace Egg village plays in which St George combats all challengers, with bouzouki, whistles and flute sending it on its merry way.

A cover of Scottish singer songwriter Archie Fisher’s The Witch of the Westmorland is haunting and delicate – O’Kane and Lyall’s musicianship providing a beautiful backcloth for the tale of the knight saved by the sorceress.

Kate’s I’ll Be Wise could come straight from the tradition – the tale of a girl beguiled and betrayed – before stately strings herald the sublime Night Lament with Kate’s voice at its most captivating.

But we’re not done yet. The fun bonus track introduces Kate’s superhero Big Brave Bill, a gent fuelled by her beloved Yorkshire Tea! Starting life as a bedtime story for her girls Daisy and Phoebe, her “brass boys” blast out this endearing, infectious anthem, premiered at this year’s Underneath the Stars Festival. Says Kate: “I wrote the song in celebration of Yorkshire, Barnsley and of course my love of Yorkshire Tea. With memories of super heroes from my childhood I thought ‘why shouldn’t there be a hero from Barnsley’”?!

Life in a Paper Boat is perhaps the finest ever melange of Kate’s music – the broad brushstrokes of O’Kane’s bold, warm and expansive production illuminating her many strengths – from that unmistakable voice to her increasingly skilful songwriting and the way she gets right inside a traditional song.

After two decades at the top of her game, Kate Rusby may no longer need any introduction, but make no mistake, hers is a constantly evolving story.

Life in a Paper Boat will be launched on a 14-date UK/Irish tour starting September 28 taking in venues including Leeds Town Hall, Glasgow City Halls, Wales Millennium Centre, and Dublin’s National Concert Hall.

SUB MOTION announce new single! “HEADCHECKED” OUT OCT 21st

Processed with VSCO

“One of the few new bands I would walk across the street to see.” – RTE 2FM – Dave Fanning

“With the likes of Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters having played sold out gigs in recent times, Ireland is ready for distorted guitars, heavy drums and heavy rock. One of these bands making a name for themselves over the past few years are Sub Motion” – Dublin Concerts

SUB MOTION are a Dublin based band with a full-bodied, modern rock sound with the vivacious Rebecca Geary at the helm on lead vocals.  Following the release of their EP “Happy Little Bruises” and well-received single “Haunt Me”, the band took some time to revamp their sound and image, introducing the energetic, punk rockers we hear now in their highly anticipated new single “HEADCHECKED”.

Recorded live in Sun Studios with sublime producer James Darkin (Black Eyed Peas, Hozier, Rihanna, Funeral Suits), “HEADCHECKED” embodies the high-octane live performances and attitude that Sub Motion brings to all their gigs. What you see is what you get with these guys. With a number of follow-up releases ready to go, 2016/2017 will see Sub Motion take on the music scene by storm.

The last two years have seen the band playing the Button Factory, the RDS, headlining and selling out Whelan’s, appearing at the Vibe for Philo, getting air play and generally fine tuning their on-stage and recorded sound. Today with an unparalleled, infectious, live energy throughout every show, SUB MOTION are quickly rising through the ranks of the Dublin music scene, as well as playing in London venues with UK promoter Hot Vox in 2015.

2015 was a big year for Rollin’ Empire playing the main stage at Sea Sessions Surf & Music Festival and releasing their debut album ” Nowhere to Run” to critical acclaim. Rollin’ Empire’s mission is to lead the fans on a compelling journey where rock reigns supreme, their energetic and passionate live performances are both lively and infectious, fans will definitely be demanding more and more.

There is a modern but distinctly natural sound to the music, there is no doubt what Rollin’ Empire want to achieve – bringing back good old fashioned, no nonsense rock and roll back to the people.

LET’S SET SAIL – ANNOUNCE SINGLE: ‘CANARIES’ OUT OCT 28TH

LET’S SET SAIL – ANNOUNCE SINGLE: ‘CANARIES’ OUT OCT 28TH ON ITUNES & SPOTIFY + VIDEO: http://bit.ly/2caH5S5

lss-canaries-single-1-1

Let’s Set Sail began as a songwriting project for two university students, studying classical music composition. While roaming the streets of Maynooth with bags of both potential and cans, burning the ears off each other about their love for Sun Kil Moon and Four Tet, Warren McCarthy and Ian Dunphy decided it would be a good idea to sit together in a box room with a guitar, a bass and their voices. Since these humble beginnings, the project has evolved into a 4-piece band, with the additions of Marian Hughes and Robert Molumby. The band produces well-crafted electronic folk songs that contain bright synths, dynamic beats, beautiful piano, lush vocal harmonies and honest, relatable lyrics that permeate the music with a distinctly Irish flavour.

Their new single, Canaries, is a bright and energetic track with staccato synth attacks that lead to emphatic choruses of three-part vocal harmonies. The lyrics promote an appreciation of both the everyday and the profound, in order to overcome the personal struggles one may experience, following the innocence of pubescent youth.

The single arrives with a new music video that shows a bizarre tale of one man’s dream to capture his artistic vision on camera. This ‘vision’ involves a forest, some shit clothes and a football trophy he won when he was about eleven. With all trust put in the hands of “video man” who will “put the effects in after”, the odds are stacked against the vision resembling a work of artistic merit.

Canaries will feature on Let’s Set Sail’s new EP, due to be released in 2017. Last year, Let’s Set Sail released a double A-side single, Five of Trumps/Leon. These songs were digitally released, showcasing the band’s new musical direction from their folk rock beginnings.

Band members:

Warren Mc Carthy – Vocals, Guitar, Songwriter

Ian Dunphy – Electronics, Synth, Vocals

Robert Molumby – Piano, Vocals

Marian Hughes – Vocals, Keys

Heroes In Hiding announce FundIt Campaign for new visual & auditory gig experience.

HEROES IN HIDING launch a FundIt campaign to bring you a unique visual and auditory experience at their next gig, but they need YOU to make it happen. Read the below information from the band to find out more!

press-4The Idea

This year our aim is to create a show that is entirely unique to the Irish music scene from which to launch our upcoming record.

Entitled Curtains, the project is a live physical and visual representation of a collection of songs. We invite you to experience a space where the boundary between the eye and the ear becomes blurred, and the barrier between the band and the audience becomes skewed.

Four walls line the edge of a square: you are invited to enter. Images are projected on all four sides. Your eyes turn to follow, your ears always alert.

We will toy with your senses and pick at your emotions so that you leave with something more than just a ticket stub. For as long as we have been together on stage it has always been us telling you the story. This time around we want you to be a part of the story.

The Band

Heroes in Hiding are made up of Joe Carroll, Oisín Jacob & Liam McCabe.

To You and The Crew

We have been together as a group since 2005. Since then, we genuinely couldn’t have made it to where we are without your support. Our success thus far is a direct result of your commitment.

We have had the opportunity to play on some of the biggest stages in both Ireland and abroad, we’ve worked with an endless amount of amazingly talented musicians, producers, sound engineers, light engineers, stage crew, promoters etc. and have never taken a single moment for granted.

This project will give us yet another chance to work with a great bunch of people. We have a dedicated crew and have joined with Second Frame Films, who will be curating the visuals for the show.

Why a Fund it?

Curtains is an experience. An experience that we would like to share with you at a specific time in a specific place. On this occassion however, we require some financial assistance to create a project of this scale.
