Lucy Spraggan speaks to RTE TEN about the meaning of success

With her new album We Are just released, singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan has told TEN that, for her, the meaning of success is “whatever you feel comfortable with”.Lucy_Spraggan_shares_her_meaning_of_success_-_RTÉ_Ten

The former X Factor contestant, who has set up her own label, CTRL, said: “Some people think global domination is success, and other people think just getting to do a paid gig is success. And at one point getting a paid gig was success for me. One! One paid gig!”

She continued: “So success for me is whatever you feel comfortable with, where your expectation lies.”

Spraggan added: “It’s so clouded sometimes by what other people have implemented to tell you what success is, which is what I suffered with for the last two years until I realised, ‘No, I’m actually doing what I love. I do tours and I make music and I do it as a job. This is me; this is success for me’.”

Norwegian rocker Simeon Kirkegaard is bringing his band, The Existentialists to Whelan’s Dublin for a special night on Friday, September 18th in support of his new single ‘Sorry’. The music has been described as a crossing between 60’s and 90’s pop rock with references to bands such as The Beatles, The Stone Roses, The Verve, Blur and many more.

About the artist

Simeon Kirkegaard is a songwriter and musician born in Norway of Danish parents. His origins began in the small town of Akkerhaugen, which is well known for producing well-established artists in Norway and Internationally. Simeon’s passion in music derived from his love of rock, pop, funk and soul music. Songwriting was a form of expression, which engulfed him from a very early age, inventing ‘new chords’ on the guitar and simple melodies on the piano, gave way to artistic freedom. He started getting guitar lessons from the age of 9 and had his first band at the age of 14. From there on, bands would come and go, but his love for songwriting and producing music remained.

He has 3 brothers and 2 sisters, he’s older sister is today married and lives in Belfast in Northern Ireland. He’s younger sister has for the last 7, 8 years been suffering from Chronic fatigue syndrome which has kept her inside in a dark room and very isolated from the surrounding world as a result. Before his sister was affected by this syndrome they made a song together that brought them to participation in the Scandinavian tv show ‘Hitmakers’ where the song was picked up by Norwegian television (NRK) for use in the very popular kids show AF1. The track was initially titled ‘Broken Heart’ before getting Norwegian lyrics and has received great appraisals from songwriters such as Charles Wright (express yourself).

In 2006 Simeon moved to Dublin to work and gain new life experiences. This was when he was introduced to the Irish music scene when he joined musicians and bands, which led him frequenting all the Dublin venues such as Whelan’s, Odessa Club, Academy, Grand Social etc. During this time he supported Welsh rockers Feeder at the academy. In 2013 he recorded his first solo album in a home studio in Norway. The album received widespread acclaim in Norway. This lead to a Nationwide tour in Ireland in 2014 with his band the Existentialists. They return in September to play Whelan’s on Friday 18th. This will be in the support of the new single ‘Sorry’ which is out on July 10th.

NEW STUDIO ALBUM ‘RUN’ Out now!

+ New single “I AM” Out July 10th

“There are slabs of industrial noise, electro-pop and even boybands, and when it works its like nothing on earth” – The Irish Daily Star ****

“RUN is a demented, delirious pop rock delight” Renowned for Sound

“It’s funky and bouncy and the energy put into it seeps out” The Independent

AWOLNATION recently released the new studio album Run notching their highest debut chart positions ever. A culmination of the years following the release of the debut album, the 14-track Run, was written, performed and produced entirely by musical architect Aaron Bruno. The first single from the album “Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)” exploded at alternative radio where it topped the chart for several weeks and seen live performances on Hit Tv shows in USA- Conan and Jimmy Kimmel Live. The New single “I Am” was synced in an International televised World of Red Bull campaign and is out in Ireland on July 10th.

Released in 2011, the band’s gold-certified debut album Megalithic Symphony was an alternative music revelation that became an astonishing success resonating with fans around the world. Their hit single “Sail,” a redefining global anthem, is certified 6X Platinum in the U.S., and is the second longest charting song in the Billboard Hot 100’s 55-year history amassing hundreds of millions of video views and streaming plays online while charting around the world. Following the success of “Sail,” the band would go on to have two more Top 10 charting alternative singles, “Not Your Fault” and “Kill Your Heroes,” having sold over a million downloads combined. Since the release of their debut, AWOLNATION has performed countless shows to millions of fans across the globe.

Following a whirlwind two-year world tour in support of Megalithic Symphony, 2014 saw AWOLNATION withdraw into the depths of the California coastline to construct the sophomore effort. The end result is a finely tuned musical masterwork that is at times, and all at once, sprawling, atmospheric, exuberant, earnest and refined with moments of a signature aggressive unease. “There is not one second on the record that hasn’t been thoughtfully placed,” said Bruno. “Every single element serves a purpose.” Standout songs alongside the first single “Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)” include the cinematic “Jailbreak,” the soaring anthem “I Am,” the title track “Run,” the euphoric “Windows,” the painfully vulnerable “Headrest for My Soul,” and the atomic rebellion of “KOOKSEVERYWHERE!!!!”

In 2014 AWOLNATION remained prominent on numerous Billboard Year End charts closing out the year on Rock Streaming Songs Artists #4, Rock Digital Songs Artists #10, Hot Rock Songs Artists #14, Top Rock Artists #17, Independent Albums #40, and several more. Since the release of their debut album, AWOLNATION has performed countless shows to millions of fans across the globe, including Coachella, Voodoo Festival, Austin City Limits, Osheaga, Brazil’s Mix FM Fest and Austria’s Frequency Festival.
