Having already played pretty much every Irish festival so far this summer including a particularly amazing headline show at Knockanstockan The Hot Sprockets are a live show not to miss! With their brand new single ‘Comin’ On’ set to be released next month (accompanied by this genius video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_CmI4n5IPM) it’s only a matter of time before these guys are selling out venues all over the world. So in order to keep your hipster profile cool catch these lads now before they’re huge at the Salty Dog Stage of Electric Picnic this Saturday 12.30 am. Don’t say we never warned ya!

Furious Haze Salty Dog Stage Sunday 11 pm

Fresh from kicking up a rock and roll storm in Whelan’s just last week, The Furious Haze, are set to play the Salty Dog The Furious Haze EP coverStage at 11 pm Sunday. Having just got a taste of what these boys can do with their new single ‘Crazy Jane Hurricane’ hitting shelves and stations earlier this month we over at Goodseed are already addicted. The Furious Haze are a beer drinking, fist fighting, working class man’s rock group with a rhythm section that you just can’t stand still too. This is Dublin rock and roll at its very best. Don’t miss what promises to be a stomping set on Sunday. P.S Bring your dancing shoes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TihZpLscHRk

Billy Bragg Electric Arena Saturday 9.30 pm

Billy Bragg_MG_8463A credit Andy Whale“Now this is one where also there is a lot of audience participation. This being folk music, I’ll play this old folk song and you all sing on the chorus. So I’ll see you at the chorus” queue one of the most iconic English folk songs in the not so distant history ‘A New England’. It has been almost 30 years since Mr. Bragg released that song (Now doesn’t that make some of us feel old) and yet here in 2013 Billy Bragg is as relevant as ever. Earlier this year he released his latest album Tooth and Nail exploring more of his Americana and Country inclination. With more experience in the music industry than our entire top picks so far combined, Billy Bragg, is a seasoned campaigner with a live show equaled by no one. Catch him at the Electric Arena Saturday from 9.30 pm.

Ocean Color Scene Main Stage Saturday 2.30 pm

Celebrating 24 years in business this summer, these Brit Pop veterans have been Marchin’ Already since 1989. With a career spanning five top ten albums, one of which even toppled the almighty Oasis from the number 1 slot in 1997, OCS are definitely on our ‘moments not to miss’ list for this year’s Electric Picnic. Having spent the year so far touring their brand new album Painting Ocean Color Scene will play the main stage at Stradbally before embarking on a massive UK tour. Don’t miss their only Irish date this year as they hit the main stage of Electric Picnic at 2.30 pm Saturday.

THE HOT SPROCKETS SINGLE ‘COMIN ON’ OUT SEPT 20th + announce 2 performances at Electric Picnic!

Comin On (Front Cover) Re-edit

THE HOT SPROCKETS

SINGLE ‘COMIN ON’

OUT SEPT 20th

+ announce 2 performances at Electric Picnic!

COMIN ON is the follow up to their last single ‘Soul Brother’ which was awarded Track of the week on Dublin’s 98fm and Single of the week on Today FM. The Hot Sprockets are back with a brand new track from their yet unnamed second album. ‘Comin On’ will be released September 20th. Hailing from the delta blues mecca that is…Dublin. They are five friends who came together with a shared love of Rock N’ Roll music.

A phenomenal live band, recent years has seen these smart blues-rockers play over 200 gigs including support slots with The Zutons, The View, Divine Comedy, Ida Maria, Peter Hook, Republic of Loose, BP Fallon and a rake of festivals including Indie-Pendence, Castlepalooza, Sea Sessions, Vantastival, Arthurs Day, Mannifest, Electric Picnic, a sold out show at The Roundhouse in London and headlining Whelans “One to Watch” festival.

Their music has been used on everything from Bulmers ad campaigns to BBC’s comedy “Fresh”, Irish film “Stitches” and RTE’s “RAW”. The band recently beat off 1000’s of bands to make it to the Hotpress “Play on the Day” final and got to grace the cover of Hotpress magazine. The bands video for “Cruisin’” was nominated for “Best video” & “Best group” at the Irish Music Television Awards.

The Hot Sprockets are living up to their early promise and stunning debut album (Honey Skippin’) by recording a mighty second album which is described as an album “to be listened to in the spirit in which it was made”. This album was recorded in Grouse Lodge, Windmill lane & Orphan Studios, it was produced by Gavin Glass and mixed by Declan Gaffney(U2) & Dougal Lott(Ray Davies) (release date tba).

Their kind of Rock N’ Roll music is haunted by the ghost of country and blues – take the good-time revolutionary spirit of MC5, simmer it down to the sounds of Crosby Stills Nash and Young, add some rough-edged Eagles of Death Metal and you are somewhere near the sonic nugget that is The Hot Sprockets.

Nationwide tour dates:

Electric Picnic, Stradbally, Co.Loais (Salty Dog Stage Aug 31st at 12.30 am & 7.50pm @ Jerry Fish Stage Sept 1st)

September 6th Coughlans Festival, Co.Cork

September 7th Harvest Time Music Festival, Co.Monaghan

Alison Moyet talks making the new album, working with her daughter and Live Aid…

AlisonFINS_TM-6Speaking to Miriam O’Callaghan Alison said it was a joy to work with her daughter when making the video for her latest single ‘When I was your girl’. When asked about her inspiration for song writing Alison said that it has changed as she has gotten older.

“ I used to be inspired by people like Janice Jopplin so it was a lot of bleating but when you reach middle age it changes. It’s less romantic based. Obviously that is a part of your life but it becomes more about observation and how you place yourself in the world today as a mature woman.” Alison said.

Alison goes on to speak about the 80’s and Top of the Pops explaining that at the time of her first performance on the iconic show she was completely broke.

“My friend actually made me my dress in her apartment!” Alison told Miriam.” I hadn’t even thought of what I was going to do with my feet on stage so I just started to do this little shuffle”.

When Alison was asked to play Live Aid she said she was unaware of the magnitude of the event.

“I was told it was in Wembley Stadium which I had played a couple of times before but when a helicopter came and I was sitting there with David Bowie I started to think something was happening. “

The English pop star goes on to talk about her childhood, her infamous reclusiveness and her weight loss.

The veteran songstress also performs her brand new single ‘When I was your girl’ off her latest album The Minutes.

You can watch her performance and the entire interview at the link below.

The Furious Haze announce details of their new EP!! out Aug 23rd titled BRING ME UP + Dublin date Whelans Aug 22nd!

THE FURIOUS HAZE

The Furious Haze EP cover

EP: BRING ME UP

OUT ON ITUNES ON AUGUST 23RD

+ DUBLIN DATE AUG 22ND WHELANS

The small auditorium is packed and on the verge of violence due to the conditions. The lights over stage twitch from a leaking pipe above, suddenly the concentration breaks, the hum off the crowd dissipates. Now, only the sound of the sub plot coming from the Saint Patrick’s Day riot far off in the distance can be heard. The concentration breaks again to the first click of the sticks, the strum of the guitar, the first glass thrown with love, the revolution begins, “The Furious Haze” are born.

Rasheed Sassy (best seat in the house), Marcus O’ Toole stage right, Martyn Lyle stage left, dead centre stood Graham Hatton and deep in violent territory, Peter Wright controlling the desk. In those days they were the “The Black Sheep” but now, politics dictates otherwise.

After six years of breaking strings, stage invasions, brawl breakouts, glass rockets in and out, road trips that went very wrong, crowd dives that turned bloody, broken and thrashed gear, vomit on stage, civil war, falling through windows and doors, honouring the faithful, and a lot of alcohol taken. Finally, “The Furious Haze” have finished recording their debut album. Channeling the furiousness of The Sex Pistols amassed with The Clash.

Recorded in the Grouse Lodge and mixed by Phil Hayes at Apollo, Temple Lane Studios and Mastered by Fergal Davis; The Furious Haze will release their EP “BRING ME UP” on AUGUST 23RD 2013.

Wes Monroe announces SHARE A DREAM gig on AUG 24TH RDS DUBLIN!! + New Single

Wes Monroe

ARRCDS020

Single: ANNE out from Aug 2nd

“The Future of Irish Country Music”

+ announces gig ‘SHARE A DREAM‘; AUG 24TH RDS DUBLIN

Wes Monroe was born and raised in a large, musical family in the small, Irish, country town of Kilcullen, County Kildare. Just like the birthplace of his Bluegrass hero and Kentucky namesake, Bill Monroe, Wes’s home-county is famous for its ability to breed thoroughbreds and, once again, it has produced a winner.

Wes Monroe’s entire life has always revolved around music and all things musical: At the tender age of eight, he began writing his own songs and at thirteen, already skilled on guitar and piano, Wes joined The Newbridge Marching Jazz Band to study drumming. Less than a year later, he toured Germany and Switzerland with the Dunlavin Youth Orchestra as its main percussionist and, at the ripe, old age of fifteen, Wes was presented with an award for his remarkable vocal and musical talents by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese.

This gifted young Irishman went on to study music and music-production in London and was the in-house producer/engineer/writer for a number of prominent West End record companies and top recording stars. He returned to college in 2007 and, in order to fund his studies, Wes performed seven-nights-a-week, headlining at the most popular Irish venues in the Greater London area. Massively successful as a solo artist, with his duo and by fronting his own Country band, Wes achieved his Bachelor of Science degree in audio production in 2010.

Very few young Country stars can claim such a wide range of musical experience; yet, Wes Monroe has always maintained that, because so many beautiful melodies and emotions can be conveyed, without gimmicks or gadgets, his real and enduring passion is for Country Music. Wes firmly believes that the real strength of any music lies in its ability to communicate with an audience and he constantly cites the popularity and success of Irish Country Music stars as indisputable proof of his very own personal mantra, “Credible Country Connects”.

While Wes Monroe’s brand of Irish Country Music continues its steady international ascent, his focus is firmly directed at raising his profile in his native country. Together with the cream of Irish Country musicians, this remarkably handsome young Irish Country star will soon embark on a nationwide series of dates and, to coincide with his Irish tour, Wes Monroe and his Country Band will soon release a brand new, original single, from his forthcoming album. Entitled “Annie”, studio bosses have already branded it “a modern Irish classic”.
