Cooking Vinyl announce new worldwide service deals with Ali Campbell and Seth Lakeman

16th May, 2013: Announced today, Ali Campbell and Seth Lakeman are the latest globally-recognised artists to sign worldwide service deals with Cooking Vinyl.

The deals will cover forthcoming albums by both artists.

Campbell is currently self-producing his fifth solo recording at RAK Studios in North London. The former UB40 frontman has sold more than 60m records worldwide,   including 4 global number one singles, and continues to perform to sell-out audiences from New Zealand and the Solomon Islands to Germany and the UK. In a long and illustrious career he has received an Ivor Novello Award in recognition of these international achievements.

All four of his previous solo albums have gone Top 20 in the UK.

Lakeman, meanwhile, is currently primed for recording sessions in North Devon with Communion co-founder Ian Grimble for a highly-anticipated seventh solo album, expected in early 2014. The former Mercury Music nominee has recently returned from some hugely successful international excursions of his own – supporting Clannad  in Germany and completing an extensive tour of Australia, including high profile appearances at WOMADelaide and Byron Bay Bluesfest. He is due to play third on the bill on Glastonbury’s acoustic stage in June.

Commenting on the deal, David Farrow, Seth Lakeman’s manager at DMF Music Ltd, said:

“Seth and I are very excited to be with a company that seems to be going from strength to strength whilst retaining their independent roots. The deal is forward thinking and I expect to see a lot more of these type of deals in the future where everyone in the chain can make money. We’re very much looking forward to working with Cooking Vinyl’s team.”

Both signings come in the slipstream of some high profile international successes for Cooking Vinyl, including Madness’ Oui Oui Si Si Ja Ja Da Da (a top ten album in the UK and across Europe) and Billy Bragg’s Tooth & Nail (which has achieved sales almost double of his previous album). Alison Moyet’s The Minutes, meanwhile, this week entered the UK album chart at 5, with the single When I Was Your Girl A-listed at Radio 2.

On Friday May 17th, Cooking Vinyl founder Martin Goldschmidt and Anglo Management’s Garry Blackburn will be part of a keynote panel at The Great Escape festival focused on new artist deals, discussing the successful campaign for Madness.

Rob Collins, Director, Cooking Vinyl said: “Ali and Seth might be worlds apart in the type of music they make – but, being globally-respected and recognised artists, both fit perfectly the Cooking Vinyl  mould. We look forward to helping deliver two more fantastic records and adding to our recent successes with Madness, Billy Bragg and now Alison Moyet. Not even halfway in, and 2013 is already a bumper year for the company.”

The Hot Sprockets announce Festival dates and Summer tour!

The Hot SprocketsOn Record Store Day April 20th 2013, The Hot Sprockets released their staggeringly cool country alt rocking Single ‘SOUL BROTHER’ to National acclaim. From being awarded Track of the week on Dublins 98 Fm to Single of the week on Today FM, The Hot Sprockets are winning over new fans at every roll of the dice. Hailing from the delta blues mecca that is…Dublin. They are five friends who came together with a shared love of Rock N’ Roll music.

A phenomenal live band, recent years has seen these smart blues-rockers play over 200 gigs including support slots with The Zutons, The View, Divine Comedy, Ida Maria, Peter Hook, Republic of Loose, BP Fallon and a rake of festivals including Indie-Pendence, Castlepalooza, Sea Sessions, Vantastival, Arthurs Day, Mannifest, Electric Picnic, a sold out show at The Roundhouse in London and headlining Whelans “One to Watch” festival.

Their music has been used on everything from Bulmers ad campaigns to BBC’s comedy “Fresh”, Irish film “Stitches” and RTE’s “RAW”. The band recently beat off 1000’s of bands to make it to the Hotpress “Play on the Day” final and got to grace the cover of Hotpress magazine. The bands video for “Cruisin’” was nominated for “Best video” & “Best group” at the Irish Music Television Awards. And the new music video for single SOUL BROTHER  has been hotly tipped as the coolest retro video of the year by ..anyone who watches it!

Their kind of Rock N’ Roll music is haunted by the ghost of country and blues – take the good-time revolutionary spirit of MC5, simmer it down to the sounds of Crosby Stills Nash and Young, add some rough-edged Eagles of Death Metal and you are somewhere near the sonic nugget that is The Hot Sprockets.

KATHERINE LYNCH feat. SHARON SHANNON

EP Cover

Katherine Lynch

Amsterdam EP ( ft Sharon Shannon )

Taken from the album  “Settling Dust”

LABEL: Crashed Music

RELEASE DATE: May 24th

Best known for her long running comedy shows in which she reprises a number of roles, Katherine Lynch has long held a secret desire to engage her audience with a straight up musical project.  When approached by Crashed Music Group last year, (home to among others The Dubliners, Horslips, Mary Coughlin and Sharon Shannon) the timing could not have been better. Lynch had already begun writing songs and the opportunity to pour her creativity into a musical project was both appreciated and happily vindicated.  The result is an album that will surprise and delight fans and should herald a new chapter in her remarkable career. In this 4 track EP the albun is highlighted with songs Amsterdam (Ft Sharon Shannon) Burning Sun, S.O.B ( Ft Tupelo) and Settling Dust (the album titled track).

Lynch who hails from Mohill in Leitrim, has proven through her song writing (seven of the albums’ 11 tracks are original) that she is possibly one of the most original and exciting folk musical finds this year.  Sharon Shannon has jumped onboard to collaborate on one original song “Amsterdam” while upcoming Dublin roots act Tupelo provides the backdrop for another, “S.O.B.”.  Dealing with themes as diverse as loss, love, fathers and home, this album is set to revise all that you thought you knew about Katherine Lynch.

The album is produced by Paul Murphy of the Electric Penguins, and includes four popular covers including “Caledonia”, “Black is the Colour” and John Spillane’sMagic Nights in the Lobby Bar”.  “On Raglan Road (her dark hair)”, is a spectacular 21st century retake on the Luke Kelly classic, in which she even sings alongside her Grand Uncle, the poet and author, Patrick Kavanagh.
