SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT! Nell Bryden to perform with Jools Holland at the Peninsular London Soul and Blues Festival on 20th July!

Nell Bryden

Nell Bryden has the heart of an artist, the mind of a storyteller and the restless soul of a troubadour. These traits are in the genes of the native New Yorker – her parents are a painter and opera singer. But the self-belief and tireless work ethic that have seen her travel 300.000 miles to play 1.400 shows over the past seven years are all her own. In the past she has recorded in Nashville, New Orleans and New York. This time she’s written and recorded her album in and around London: her adopted second home. “A lot of the songs are about starting over, about rebirth and rebuilding,” says Nell. “And finding my way home… wherever that is.” http://www.peninsula-festival.eu/en/Events/London-Soul-en-Blues-festival.html

Adela & The Meanits reveal music video for Andy.

Set to release new single ‘Andy’ in July (The 13th) Adela & The Meanits revealed the official music video for the track. “Andy is a song I wrote after a male friend of mine tried on my mothers clothes. The idea of both a male and female persona intrigued me and gave me the idea of this character; Andy”- Says lead singer Adela Meally.

The video’s story line follows ‘Demi Whore’, a well known Dublin Drag Queen, as she sets off on an interview for a job, in both personas of ‘Andy’. Bold and efficaciously fun, this charming song and video is taken from the album ‘Kinda Wild’ which will be released in the August 2012 in support of the Long Road Home tour the band will be taking on which involves playing 32 gigs in the 32 counties of Ireland in the month of August.

“Combining all the charming characteristics exuded so effortlessly on the stage: upbeat, off-kilter pop-songs that skateboard down the hand-rail between chart and alternative that make it quite impossible not to fall a little bit in love with Adela. And her multi-talented Meanits of course! (GMan). ‘Andy’ is a contagious little number that will lodge inside your brain where the word ‘FUN’ resides and it’ll bloody damn well refuse to leave! But don’t take our word for it, check it out!” (FUGM)

Determined musician Nell Bryden refused to let hair loss ruin her life.

‘I grabbed Dad’s hair clippers to take control of my alopecia’

Nell Bryden spoke so bravely about her hair loss for the first time over the weekend in the Daily Mail:

READ HERE: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2163672/Nell-Bryden-alopecia-Musician-talks-hair-loss.html?ito=feeds-newsxml Positive face: Nell sees her condition as a 'wake-up call' for life

Positive face: Nell sees her condition as a ‘wake-up call’ for life

Excerpt: Sitting in front of the mirror in my New York apartment, I saw a reflection I hardly recognised. I looked sick. My hair was so thin, large patches of my scalp showed through. My eyebrows and eyelashes were practically gone, too. This wasn’t me, I thought. It felt like a nightmare. But it wasn’t.

Until this moment, I had never realised how much my hair had been intertwined with my identity.

I picked up the clippers I had borrowed from my father and I raised them to my head. At the moment the buzzing metal hit my skin, a giant clap of thunder rang out. Rain began to fall outside as what was left of my hair fell to the floor.

Just three weeks earlier, I had bouncy blonde locks that I could gather into a ponytail or curl into ringlets. I half-heartedly complained about bad hair days but I never really had any. Sure, I had my little insecurities, like most women, about my thighs and my nose, but my hair had never been one of them.

I was confident, healthy and feminine, and I assumed that I would always stay that way. If you had told me when I was younger that I’d be completely bald by the age of 33, I’d have laughed.

New Single from Adela & The Meanits announced: ANDY out July 13th

 Adela & The Meanits:

Single ‘Andy’ Ft. bonus track ‘Comic Book Dreams’ Out July 13th
+ The ‘Long road home’ tour of Ireland..
32 counties & 32 gigs in the month of August!

Adela & the Meanits are a band so red hot cool they must surely be illegal, or at least seriously frowned upon by squares. After a chance encounter on a St Patrick’s Day float in Portlaoise, Adela met drummer Ros O’ Meara. Then a member of several bands, Ros introduced Adela to Barry Hayes who in turn introduced everyone to John Davidson. Like peas in a far out pod… catapulted from years of abject obscurity in the Irish midlands… they soon became a group of four: Adela and the Meanits.

After making their powerfully memorable debut performance at Electric Picnic back in 2009, the band have since paid their dues and gigged the necessary venues and festivals in Ireland such as Indiependence, Knockinstockin, Helium, Blue Breeze, Milk, Happy Valley, Dublin City Soul Festival and more.

Their music has been likened to Madness, Sultans of Ping and Lily Allen, but comparisons aside their music contains refreshing elements of pop, folk & trash can jazz that when combined, somehow manage to have a mainstream appeal. With songs that are catchy as f*ck and musicianship that is so roasting hot it is hard to imagine this band staying under the radar for much longer. All four musicians are multi-instrumentalists and incorporate vocals, double bass, piano, ukulele, melodica, drums/percussion, nylon string guitar and violin with effects pedals into each live performance.

Set to release their debut album in August, single ‘Andy’ precedes just in time for this years summer festivals. The upcoming studio album has a definite left of centre pop sound. But for now, taster ‘Andy’ should boost interest surrounding the band in a speed like- is that a bird or a plane- manner.

GIGS: For their album release in August the band have decided to do 32 gigs in 32 counties in Ireland to celebrate the album, all the counties will be covered in the entire month of August! See: www.adelaandthemeanits.com for all updates!
