The Workman’s Club presents…

VerseChorusVerse

 Saturday 3rd March

VerseChorusVerse is the alias of Tony Wright, who is previously of PepperBook, Zombie Safari Park and the lesser known ASIWYFA. VerseChorusVerse was born out of a deep rooted desire to sing, as Tony found that the mere act of expelling air aurally coupled with hitting idiosyncratic, in tune, musical notes seemed to release endorphins in a free and totally natural way that helped him to smile. Having toured the world and achieved some success with his last band, the fiercely energetic & instrumental nature of ASIWYFA, coupled with their vast wall of sound, led Tony to explore just how to convey as much passion and intensity using only his voice and an acoustic guitar, in a live setting. Tony puts it another way: “I just wanted to get scared again, jumping off a cliff into the ocean is way more daring than jumping off a table. Unless that table happens to be on a cliff of course.”

VerseChorusVerse is eager to be heard.

Short film adaptation on the song ‘On My Side’ by Robb Murphy

Teaming up with singer/songwriter Robb Murphy; award winning short film director Patrick Maxwell of Headline Films captured the singer and his real life girlfriend over the course of a day in Belfast for the filmic adaptation of the single ‘On My Side‘, the new single to be released from Robb Murphy’s debut album ‘Take A Stand‘.

Naturalistic and stripped back, the video opens on a young man shifting his weight, filled with the excited nerves that come before a big date. Will the following hours hold the potential for intimacy, indifference or even rejection? He resolves to rely on his tried and tested formula – ‘We will talk and I will smile’ – after all – he’s ‘got an act to keep up dear’. But what if he just goes with it and sees what the day holds. Could it live up to his expectations? Or even surpass them?

Stop imagining. Drop the act. Be yourself.

And she might just surprise you.

The video was directed, produced, filmed and edited by Patrick Maxwell at Headline Films in Belfast, UK.

GET CAPE WEAR CAPE FLY

THE REAL McCOY (FRYDL499)

Get Cape Wear Cape Fly have marked their return with a brand new track titled ‘The Real McCoy’, complete with accompanying video from BAFTA nominated Luke Snellin.  The video features Austin Aries and Alex Shelley of TNA IMPACT WRESTLING fame.

An unlikely collaboration at first glance, but frontman Sam Duckworth is a huge fan of the sport and the Southend born songwriter has immersed himself into the world of wrestling from an early age, following the events and becoming a big advocate of it in the music world. He says:

“This video has been 2 years in the making and hopefully goes someway to show the art of professional wrestling. Life would be a more boring place without the squared circle. I hope you enjoy this celebration of it.”

Sam Duckworth has been a busy man with a solo release in 2011 and the last GCWCF record the year before. Songwriting comes naturally and easily and Sam is now in a position where he has the freedom to write in the style that he’s always wanted to. The Real McCoy is the first taste of this, a pronounced track brimming with energy and confidence and a great taster for the new LP, due this Spring.

As well as this brand new track, GCWCF will be embarking on a tour of the UK throughout May. Pre-sale tickets are available from the band’s website from 10am, Wednesday 22nd February.

The Real McCoy will premiere exclusively on TNA IMPACT WRESTLING show X-Plosion on Challenge TV at 9pm, 29th February.

The Enemy have unveiled their new song ‘Gimme The Sign’

The Enemy have unveiled their new SINGLE ‘GIMME A SIGN’

You can listen to it below and download it direct from their site! http://www.theenemy.com/

ANNOUNCE UK TOUR DATES IN MAY

Premiered at their homecoming gig in Coventry last Thursday night, ‘Gimme A Sign’ is a perfect taste of what is to come from the band’s new album ‘Streets in the Sky’ released this Spring. Produced by The Bronx’s Joby J. Ford, ‘Gimme A Sign’ is quite simply, a huge anthem. Much heavier than The Enemy’s earlier sound whilst also leaning towards the anthemic sound of their first album ‘We’ll Live and Die in These Towns’, ‘Gimme A Sign’ couples Tom Clarke’s signature chanting vocals with strong, forceful drums and heavily confident guitars. It is catchy, instant and huge and is a massive live track just made for crowd surfing. And that’s exactly what it created in Coventry on Thursday night.

The Enemy formed in hometown Coventry in 2006 by three friends; Andy Hopkins (25, bass), Liam Watts (24, drums) and Tom Clarke (24, vocals/guitar). Their first single ’40 days, 40 nights’ sold out all 1000 copies of its limited edition 7” in less than a day and signaled only the start for The Enemy. Their debut 2007 album ‘We’ll Live and Die in These Towns’ charted at #1 selling over 600,000 copies with big singles ‘Away From Here’ (Top 10) and ‘Had Enough’ (Top 5) gaining the band an army of diehard fans. Their second album ‘Music For The People’ was released in 2009 and charted very strongly at #2 with hit ‘Be Somebody’ continued to be used on ITV’s FA Cup coverage.

To date, the band have sold over half a million tickets for their live gigs and along with their own headline dates and festival appearances, they have performed with the likes of Oasis, Kasabian, Manic Street Preachers and Stereophonics. The Enemy performed a homecoming show at S7VEN nightclub in Coventry last week to a packed out, ecstatic crowd who managed to get a ticket to the tiny 350 capacity gig (which sold out in seconds). They have just announced that they will also be performing four UK tour dates this May where they will be premiering further album tracks. Full tour dates are as follows:

May 2012

Sat  05    Leeds  Live at Leeds

Wed 23  Manchester Academy

Thu 24 London Shepherds Bush Empire

COUNTING CROWS ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM

‘UNDERWATER SUNSHINE’ (COOKCD561)

WILL BE RELEASED APRIL 6th

Multi-platinum American rock band, Counting Crows have announced they will be releasing their first new album in over 4 years on April 6th, 2012.  Underwater Sunshine (or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation) is a collection of songs, both familiar and obscure, interpreted by one of the most soulful and recognizable bands of the past two decades.

Underwater Sunshine is a testament of a band geek-obsessed with music. “There’s a million great songs written every day that you discover, and wish your friends could appreciate as much as you do,” says singer/songwriter Adam Duritz. “These songs come from bands young and old, stretching from the early 60s to last year. They’re all great and will hopefully be heard by a few more people now.”

Produced by Counting Crows and Shawn Dealey, Underwater Sunshine features tracks written by artists such as Big Star, Gram Parsons, Tender Mercies, Kasey Anderson and The Faces. Each rendition offers an entire spectrum of human emotion, delivered with the conviction and intense honesty the band is known for.

As their first independent release, it was the right time for the Crows to make this album. “If you wonder why we didn’t just write our own record, it’s simply because we wanted to do THIS one,” says Duritz, We now have the creative freedom to release albums like this and offer our fans more music than ever.”

In the spirit of becoming an independent band, the Crows will stream the new album, on demand in its entirety prior to release on radio station websites and other digital partners.  They are also giving away a free download of their new song, “Mercy” on http://www.countingcrows.com/

The Crows also gave their fans the opportunity to design their new album package. Just as the band is interpreting songs from others, fans became a part of this unique album by visually interpreting the Crows. The winning designer is working with the band’s creative director to develop the rest of the album layout. The contest was ran by Creative Allies, and is proving to be their most successful contest to date. To find out more, go to: http://creativeallies.com/contests/314-Design-an-Album-Cover-for-Counting-Crows

Counting Crows will also partner with Indaba Music and Guitar Center to launch a contest in search of  the best Counting Crows covers. A Plastic Rose announce new Single and reveal album cover and title!

A Plastic Rose are pleased to announce their first musical offering of 2012 in single: ‘Build From The Ground Up’ (Release date March 16th), taken from their eagerly awaited debut album titled: ‘Camera.Shutter.Life’. The album was produced at Manor Park by Neal Calderwood (General Fiasco, Fighting With Wire) and will be released in the summer of 2012 on DidiMau Records**. (Rel date TBA) See Album artwork by friz above.

Fresh from Supporting Snow Patrol on a handful of their arena tour dates last month, the spectacular and ever ‘EPIC’ (Irish Times) band ‘A Plastic Rose’ are the name on a lot of people’s lips at the moment. Widely seen as one of the most exciting prospects to emerge from the increasingly fertile Northern Irish music scene, the band have been instrumental in uniting artists and gig-goers alike, knowing that there is great strength in a united front.

On ‘Build From The Ground Up’, the band have captured the sound that made them such a favourite amongst audiences, but there’s a different edge this time; more mature, more developed, more real. This is the proof we’ve all been waiting for that behind the band’s rhetoric and ability to bring people together, there is some serious song writing skills at work.

Camera.Shutter.Life’ finds A Plastic Rose calling to mind the aggression of Rival Schools, the dark mystery of R.E.M., the emotional intensity of Biffy Clyro, as well as the fist-pumping choruses of the Foo Fighters.

What better track to celebrate the albums impending arrival, than Build From The ground Up’. Their first ever debut single ‘All You Know And Love Will Die’ was picked up and supported by Jo Whiley, Edith Bowman, Nihal, Huw Stephens and Tom Robinson. So we can expect big things from this band.

Gig dates to be announced soon.
