Peter Kay jets in to Dublin to launch The Saw Doctors’ new album!

Peter Kay jets in to Dublin to launch The Saw Doctors’ new album!

Well-loved television comedian, Peter Kay, flew into Dublin for an intimate bash with extended family this weekend, as he launched the latest album of his old friends, celebrated Irish band The Saw Doctors.

Kay, a self-proclaimed fan of the band for more than twenty years, delighted fans as he joined the Galway boys on stage at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre on Saturday night to officially unveil their new CD: ‘The Further Adventures of the Saw Doctors’, which also came in at No1. in The Irish Indie charts and No. 7 in the Overall combined Charts on Friday.

The comedian, who has previously duetted with the band in Manchester and his native Bolton, was once again in fine form, joining energetic frontman Davy Carton for a version of their first chart topper, ‘I Useta Lover’. The packed out Dublin venue naturally erupted into a thunderous applause.

Peter Kay said: “What an absolute honour and a joy to be asked to launch the fantastic new album by the Saw Doctors. My family and I have been massive fans for years”.

Davy Carton said: “We were thrilled when Peter agreed to do this and went to so much trouble to get here. We equally love his work and in a way I think we share the same sort of humour”.

Guitarist Leo Moran added: “We know Peter is very proud of his Irish roots and his Irish relatives, but for a major star to take time out and to speak so highly of our work is a huge compliment”.

Kay was joined by relatives from all corners of Ireland as they met up with the band after the Dublin gig.

The Further Adventures of the Saw Doctors is available on Monday 27 September in the UK and is out now in Ireland. Their second single ‘Well Byes’ will be released on October 16th.

After a vast list of Summer festivals and Head line dates in Ireland, The Saw Doctors start a 17 date UK tour on 24 November, which includes two London concerts at Shepherds Bush Empire as well as shows in Glasgow, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Southampton and Leeds, culminating in the second of those London dates, at the 2 Shepherds Bush Empire on 18 December.

NEWS::

Good news for belfast foursome John, Shelly & the Creatures. Earlier this year the Northern Irish Tourist Board launched a phase of TV adverts that featured the bands’ single (from their debut album Dinosuar) tiltedLong May You Reign as the title music on the advert.

Now, there is a completely new advert being aired, starting on Monday 20th of September. There will be 10 second, 30 second and 60 second versions. There is also a 60 second radio advert which will feature an instrumental version. They will all feature a newly arranged and recorded version of Long May You Reign.

Forthcoming Groove Armada UK tour to be their last ever.

Andy Cato and Tom Findlay decide to retire the GA live band experience’.

Dynamic dance duo Groove Armada have revealed that their forthcoming tours of the UK and Australia will be their last ever shows as a full live band.

This doesn’t mark an end for the boys of course – there are big and exciting DJ performance and production plans for 2011 – but rather the start of a whole new chapter. Confirming their plans, Andy and Tom said:

“We’ve crossed and re-crossed the world with this band and crew. There’s no other team like it. With their help, GA live became the sound of legendary nights from Mount Fuji to Moscow. It’s not often in the spotlight maybe; but ask the people who have come and filled the tents and surrounded the stages for the last decade. A massive thanks to all of them, for staying with us on a journey from Richie Havens to Saint Saviour.”

The Manchester, Bristol and second Brixton shows have already sold out, along with the entire allocation of tickets on the band’s website, so with only a few hundred tickets left across all shows if you want to see the band live, nab tickets for the rest of the tour, sharpish.

For each Groove Armada gig at an O2 Academy venue, 10 fans will be chosen to attend the gig and film one song using their mobile phone from a different perspective in the venue. All the footage will then be edited together to make a stunning piece of video for that song. The videos will be posted to You Tube and the venue Facebook pages so that fans can relive the gig and share their experience using the ultimate live recording.

Groove Armada turn Black Light into White Light

To celebrate this momentous occasion the band have created a series of fresh, new live studio tracks that will be released to coincide with the tour.  Tom Findlay commented “It began as Black Light. Then it was recut, reworked and enlarged for a festival season that began at Glastonbury, crossed Europe, took in Japan, and ended in Moscow. Now these king size live versions have been taken back to the studio and re-recorded. Black Light has become White Light.”

John, Shelly & the Creatures 3 page exclusive with ‘Go belfast’ magazine out now!

Pick up Go Belfast magazine and read John, Shelly & the Creatures talk Exclusively to Go belfast magazine about being propelled into the spotlight by the use of their debut single Long May You Reign on the Northern Ireland Tourist Boards current TV ad, their performance on the Late Late Show, a performance at Dublins RDS to over 20,0000 people, and being mobbed by screaming teenagers in Donegal among 2010’s many highs.

Injecting vital fuel into the JSATC machine, the success of the single (which was picked for the ad over Greenday if you don t mind) has buoyed the band, not only heightening their profile across the island, but affording them the comforts of a new tour van, and helping them fulfill a packed touring schedule over the past few month and in the coming weeks the band go back on the road.

John, Shelly & the Creatures announce tour + home coming gig in Belfast!

With their stunning debut DINOSAUR released to critical acclaim earlier this year, the Belfast foursome have firmly put their stamp on the Irish music scene. Their first single ‘LONG MAY YOU REIGN’, received (and still receives) critical acclaim. It also featured in The Northern Irish Tourist Board TV, Radio and Cinema Advert. They performed the song live, to over 20,000 spectators in the RDS arena and to most of the country when they appeared on The Late Late Show. Their follow up single ‘KILLER’ was performed live across a number of TV shows including Dave Fanning’s 11th Hour, BBC2’s Imeall Gael & on an official live web stream on Muzu.TV featuring JEDWARD (yes Jedward!) as the bands backing dancers.

Their album has received rave reviews from national publications, declaring the band as ‘BRILLIANT..  Dazzling’ (Irish Independent), ‘Sublime’ (Irish Mirror), “Effortlessly monumental’ (AU)…& destined for greatness… it was also hotly tipped for a Choice Music Prize Nomination by Irish Music Journalist Tony Clayton Lea of The Irish Times who wrote: “an exceptional grasp of texture, tone and theme. A shoe-in for next year’s Choice Music Prize nominations list?”

John, Shelly & the Creatures have an interesting story of how they came to be. Created out of a chance meeting with two homeless Irish Twins (named John and Shelly) in a bar in Berlin, who used to be in a band named The Creatures. So suffice to say none of the actual band members are named John or Shelly…to get the full story you shall have to ask the band.
