EDITH PIAF;AT CARNEGIE HALL 1957

WE  are very pleased to announce the release of :

EDITH PIAF: AT CARNEGIE HALL 1957

RELEASE SEPT 10TH (FUTURE NOISE)

For the First time on CD, this release includes extensive biographical notes and track-by-track commentary by Spencer Leigh, acclaimed BBC radio presenter and journalist. Unusually for concert recordings, it features Piaf speaking and singing in English on occasion.

There is a memorable photograph of Edith Piaf performing at Carnegie Hall in January 1957. She is a tiny figure, not five foot tall and perhaps seven stone, wearing a simple, dark dress on a vast stage and we can see hundreds of people intently watching her. Her records were great, still are, but it was on stage that she truly revealed her compelling personality. Piaf’s concert at the Manhattan venue was a triumph on a par with her famed concerts at the Paris Olympia. She was working with her regular conductor, Robert Chauvigny, and Piaf could choose from over 100 of his arrangements for orchestra and choir.

Sometimes intentionally, sometimes accidentally, her songs often reflected the tragedies in her life and Piaf poured her feelings into them. No other performer, not even Billie Holiday, Judy Garland or Shirley Bassey, has performed with such intensity. You can appreciate the feelings in her songs even if you don’t know the language, but for this concert Piaf speaks and sings in English on occasion, making this album (first released in 1977) one that is particularly cherished by her many fans worldwide. Now, for the first time, the entire album can be purchased on CD

NEW RELEASES: QUICK RECAP

Hello there fellow music lover, BEFORE WE SAY HELLO TO SEPTEMBER: here’s a look back at our August releases::

OUT NOW>>>>>

Underworld: Single ‘Always Loved a Film’: taken from brand new album ‘Barking’ (set for release September 10th 2010).

“A joyous return to form” – Q, July 2010

“Hottest Record in the World Right Now” – Zane Lowe, July 2010

‘Always Loved A Film’ is the first full single to be taken from Underworld’s dazzling new album, ‘Barking’. Given a global premier by Pete Tong on Radio 1, followed by a “Hottest Record in the World Right Now” from Zane Lowe, ‘Always Loved A Film’ is a collaboration between Underworld and techno producers Mark Knight and D. Ramirez, resulting in seven ecstatic minutes of pressure-cooked euphoria. Remixes include Solo’s percussive work out, Michael Woods’ deep and dubby epic, Breakage’s stripped back, minimalist version and DJ Madskillz’s bouncy dutch house. Following on from a barn-storming headline performance at The Roundhouse on a balmy July evening – as part of the iTunes festival – Underworld return triumphantly with their first new album in almost 3 years this September.

JOHN, SHELLY & THE CREATURES: Single: ‘FOOLS’ + bonus track ‘THE FIRST MOVE’. ‘FOOLS’ is a defiant twist of the multi faceted musical dimension of Belfast city’s: John, Shelly & the Creatures. Formed after a chance meeting they had in a bar in Berlin with two homeless Irish twins named ‘John and Shelly’…this Belfast foursome have been receiving critical acclaim upon the release of their debut Dinosaur earlier this year. With a list of new gig dates here, this band will continue to earn new fans and surprise old ones.

‘BRILLIANT..  Dazzling’ (Irish Independent)

‘Sublime’ (Irish Mirror),

“Effortlessly monumental’ (AU)…& destined for greatness…

“an exceptional grasp of texture, tone and theme. A shoe-in for next year’s Choice Music Prize nominations list?” ( Irish Times )

STARS the five ghosts (album) + IRISH festival DATE in Sept: THE ELECTRIC PICNIC Fri 3rd Sept

The first single from Five Ghosts is the infectiously melodic pop tune “Fixed” featuring Millan on vocals and is available on iTunes. The wait is over and Canada’s most revered indie troop, STARS, return with their fifth full length album, The Five Ghosts, available August 5th. Five Ghosts marks the first release on the band’s new label imprint Soft Revolution Records licensed everywhere around the world except Canada through Vagrant Records.

“.. top-notch songs.”- John Meagher, Irish Independent

“ There’s something of a chill at the core of this marvellous album…. Their Electric Picnic show can’t come any sooner.” – Tony Clayton Lea Irish Times

“..begs frequent repeated listens”. *** Johnny Craig The Sunday POST

“..as if Stars were trying to straddle the divide between Coldplay and Lady Gaga.”- ***Andy Gill The Tribune

THE CHARLATANS: Single ‘Love Is Ending’, is the first single to be taken from the album. With a career that has already spanned two decades, The Charlatans – Martin Blunt (bass), Jon Brookes (drums), Tim Burgess (vocals), Mark Collins (guitar) and Tony Rogers(keyboards) – release their new album ‘Who We Touch’, on September 3rd 2010.

THE SAW DOCTORS: Single ‘TAKIN’ THE TRAIN’ – Taken from the new studio album ‘The Further Adventures of The Saw Doctors’ out Sept 10th

Irish dates just Announced: Fri. 24th Sept: CORKS SAVOY & Sat. 25thDUBLINS, OLYMPIA Theatre

****HOTPRESS

One year is becoming hard to sustain for modern bands trying their hand in the music business nowadays, so it is that little bit more impressive to know that in the past 20 years The Saw Doctorshave emerged as the most successful Irish rock band since U2. With a list of Chart success on numerous songs over the years such as well known favourites: “N17”, “I Useta Lover”, and more recently a cover of SUGABABES “About You Now”, (note that The Sugababes’ original version of About You Now stalled at No. 2 in the Irish Chart while The Saw Doctors reached No. 1!) plus many more, have helped The Saw Doctors maintain their defiant musical stance on the scene.

Ray Winston ft. in new Unkle Video + Unkle have a new EP: The Answer

NEWS:: UNKLE are wasting no time with another release on September 10th, this time The Answer EP which includes two new songs, ‘The Run Away’ featuring Lupe Fiasco (who previously used UNKLE in one of his tunes ‘Hello/Goodbye’) and a remix from Tim Goldsworthy.

The Answer is a limited of 3000 pieces worldwide and is available in a “soft pack”

UNKLE’s new single ‘The Answer’ is the follow up to ‘Follow Me Down’ and is taken from the critically acclaimed new album ‘Where Did The Night Fall’. It is also the lead track from new EP titled; ‘The Answer’, a collaboration with improvisational Baltimore-based band Big In Japan, who have been touring as the backing band for UNKLE since 2007, is a towering anthem and an album highlight. Stadium in size, the lush, layered vocals sound all encompassing when set against epic, Middle-Eastern tinged strings, tumbling drums and a fuzzy bassline. Oscillating between quiet lulls and soaring highs, it once again sees UNKLE alight on entirely new ground to exhilarating effect. The video for the Big in Japan-featuring title track was directed by John Hillcoat. Ray Winstone features in the video talking about a big thing that happened to him that changed his life. There’s actually a separate new video for the same song directed by Ross Cairns below which features footage from the ‘Lives Of The Artists’ documentaries of snowboard free-riders Jeremy Jones and Xavier De Le Rue.
