The unheralded Singer and voice that is NIGEL CONNELL Released his Stunning Debut Album NOTHING LEFT to SAY On April 16th 2010 via iTunes and in all good record stores Nationwide.

TONIGHT HE IS JOINED BY FULL band in ‘The Old Darnley Lodge’ in Athboy Co Meath from 8pm which promises to be one gig NOT TO BE MISSED.

Receiving airtime on LMFM, Dublin’s Country, Rte Radio1, Rte Lyric FM & Regional Radio. Nigel Connell was born into a musical family of two brothers and two sisters. He was the youngest of five and once he could walk, it meant he could talk and eventually sing, so into the family band he went and it was here where his skills as a Drummer and Singer developed. His first Live performance was at the age of 13 in the family band, he later joined the The Legendary Cotton Mill Boys and went on his first tour at the age of 15. Addicted to the stage, Nigel went on to Play Support to legendary Music luminaries such as Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash, June Carter, Martina MC Bride, Randy Travis, Vince Gill, Steve Earle, Glen Campbell & John Denver. No stranger to performing on national Television, Nigel has performed his musical skills on a variety of Irelands finest: Live at Three, Up for the Match, Kenny Live, Nationwide, The Late Late Show, Phil Coulter and The Bibi Baskin Show. Nigel has also performed on radio Nationwide such as RTE Radio 1, 2fm, Phantom FM and Dublin’s Country to name but a handful.

On his Debut Album, he recruited in the Multi Platinum Producer Mark Cahill (who worked on the Number 1 US billboard selling album with The Irish Tenors). The album is embellished by an evident Romantic & Classical feel to it throughout, yet wholly embraces Nigel’s vocal capability and sentiment as a performer, with Orchestral performances by The Irish Session Orchestra and the Mullingar Cathedral Choir. Epic in some proportions – it will certainly ease you in by its lush string arrangements and fine production. Each track has a different edge, with preludes that introduce you to a world of music that has no boundaries. Nigel recently joined World Class Irish Country Folk Singer Daniel O Donnell’s band as his Drummer and Backing vocalist. NEWS*** Brendan Perry’s new album & Electric Picnic slot.

Brendan Perry

New album ‘ARK’ – 4th June

Babylon ~ The Bogus Man ~ Wintersun ~ Utopia ~ Inferno ~ This Boy ~ The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea ~ Crescent

Brendan Perry releases his second solo album, ‘Ark’, on Friday 4th June. As one half of Dead Can Dance for nearly three decades, Brendan’s music has been heard by fans around the world and Dead Can Dance remain the biggest selling artists to ever grace 4AD.

Recorded in his own studio in Ireland, ‘Ark’ is a truly solo album, Brendan playing every instrument, writing all the lyrics and being the sole creative force across the eight tracks. All of the instrumentation on ‘Ark’ is derived from samples and synthesisers and, in its creators own words, is predicated on a theory of creating a neutral electronic soundscape which would in turn mirror a world that is becoming increasingly more dependent upon machines to perform tasks for us’. In its range of influences, the album encompasses music from all four corners of the globe to create a global soundtrack for global themes.

Whilst ‘Ark’ is not a concept album in the original sense of the term, it combines themes which run throughout its eight tracks. The lyrics of opener ‘Babylon’ focus on the current conflicts within the Middle East and combine with ‘The Bogus Man’ and ‘This Boy’ to put a human face on those charged with waging war on behalf of politicians. Concurrently with the investigations of conflict and political corruption are considerations of the detrimental effects of human behavior on the natural world and the alienation caused by an increasingly machine driven world.

Whilst such dystopian themes could be seen to make for a very bleak experience, ‘Ark’ is shot through with an emotional warmth and a belief in the redemptive power of humanity from which the album title is derived, ‘Ark’ being not just the refuge of the world but a starting point for a better society and a more organic way of life. To accompany ‘Ark’, Brendan will play selected shows in the UK & Ireland, details to follow soon.

The Frank & Walters release ‘The Parson’ on April 23rd 2010 that will prove, yet again, that they continue to swing the mightiest of pop hooks. The single is part one in a series of four singles the Franks will release to coincide with the unfolding of the Seasons.

Bio info: The Frank and Walters are one of the most recognizable alternative rock bands hailing from Cork, Ireland in the past 2 decades. The band: Paul Linehan (Lead vocal & bass), Ashley Keating- (Drums) & Kevin Pedreschi (lead Guitar) took the band name in honour of two eccentric Cork characters. Two decades on from the release of their very first record, and the Franks continue to defy expectations. With Indie hits such as ‘Fashion Crisis Hits New York’ ‘After All’ (which reached the top twenty in the UK Singles Chart, where it peaked at #11. The group also appeared on Top of the Pops in support of the single; it went as high as #5 in the Irish charts). Their music today is as relevant as any of the new pretenders on the block and only a handful of bands anywhere in the world can lay claim to such longevity of popularity. Each year, the Frank and Walters perform sell out venues across the UK, Europe, and the US and their records, both new and classic, continue to sell across the world.

AIKEN PROMOTIONS PRESENT : COLM LYNCH IN ‘THE VILLAGE’ APRIL 22ND

by admin on April 9, 2010 in with no comments

AIKEN PROMOTIONS ARE PROUD TO PRESENT:

METEOR AWARD NOMINEE FOR BEST NEWCOMER

Described as “…Singer songwriting savior…” by The Irish Times

RTE’s Pat Kenny described Colm’s music as “SUPER MUSIC”

“Exceptional!”- Eddie Rowley, Sunday World

“A powerhouse live performer”- HOTPRESS

INVITES YOU TO COME AND JOIN HIM AND HIS 8 PIECE BAND

IN THE VILLAGE ON THURSDAY APRIL 22ND 2010

The release of the critically acclaimed first album “A Whisper in a Riot”, put his vocal and songwriting skills on show to the nation for the first time. It received glowing plaudits from the likes of Dave Fanning, Hotpress, The Irish Times, In Dublin and a host of other people and publications. It was Album of the Week on Larry Gogan’s 2FM Radio show. Singles released from the album got extensive airplay on national and local radio. He also won the Balcony TV Best Male Award in 2007.

His current album, being his second studio album titled: Tickety-Boo, is picking up where he left off. While more polished, it still possesses the same characteristics that made his debut such a winner. Whether in a mellow mood or just plain aggressive, the music always comes from the heart. This is plain to see when witnessed in live performances.  Remaining true to his philosophy that ‘a good song should have a strong melody and meaningful lyrics’, the ten track album features hit singles “It’s Coming Down” (previously playlisted on TODAY FM and 2FM) and the RTE playlisted “If I was In Your Shoes”.

Anyone expecting to see a singer-songwriter soulfully whispering into a microphone should think again. This will be a fevered, rock n’ roll affair! After all, there are only two schools of thought on Colm Lynch’s music: those who are confirmed fans and those who haven’t heard him yet! Whether playing to hundreds of people in venues like Vicar St. Dublin or to a tiny audience somewhere off the beaten track, Lynch always delivers a memorable performance.

Colm Lynch Live @ The Village, Tickets are €10 on sale now through ticketmaster and other usual outlets nationwide. Booking Line: 0818 719 300.

Gavin Glass releases new single and a bit of ‘Ooh La la…’

by admin on April 8, 2010 in with no comments

Gavin Glass
Releases his new single
‘Just Like Rome’ on the 23rd April taken from album MYNA BIRDS (May 28th)

‘Just Like Rome’ is the first single to be taken from Dubliner Gavin Glass’ forthcoming third album, ‘Myna Birds’.

The single comes flip-sided with Gavin’s version of The Faces classic ‘Ooh La La’ which was recently used in the long-running Meteor television ad campaign.

‘Myna Birds’, which features collaborations with members of The Black Crowes & Wilco, is the follow up to his critically acclaimed 2007 release ‘Gavin Glass & the Holy Shakers’ which received a very rare 9 out 10 from HOTPRESS on release.

Glass has spent the last two years working & touring with Lisa Hannigan as a multi-instrumentalist in her band and contributed to her recent Mercury Nominated album ‘Sea-Sew’. His forthcoming album, ‘Myna Birds’ was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee during a break from Lisa’s recent North American tour.

An introduction to Steve Gorman of the Black Crowes after a show in Boston led to an all-star band being put together, featuring: Audley Freed (Black Crowes, Train, Cry of Love, Dixie Chicks), Ken Coomer (Wilco, Uncle Tupelo) and Jen Gunderman (Jayhawks). These are all bands that have had a resounding influence on Glass’ unique Irish flavoured Americana. Gavin and the band set-up camp in Nashville’s Eastwood Studios and recorded the album on the endangered format of analogue tape over an intensive two-weeks in March of last year. The album was then completed with the help of friends back in Dublin in between Hannigan’s hectic touring schedule.

Myna Birds will be released on Orphan records on May 28th
Tour Dates to be announced soon.
